The Spy and the General

S! All

This is not the Story of Mata Hari but the tale of two missions.

The Spy is a three point mission.  You bring him  or her home for 1 point and  he tells you about a Reserve unit, 1 point.  You investigate an area he tells you about to get a new bomber target, 1 point.

The General Capture is only 2 points. You bring the General to your base, 1 point. You then find documents about a Trench Attack Point, 1 point.  Only 2 points. Dang, for a General he is not worth much. It is possible to add another target to the mission. Just like the Spy mission, the General makes you search a sector for a new target. We have many targets as pop ups. They are either ships or the vehicle group at a low building arrangement. J30 von Hammer suggested planes at a factory. Interesting.  The factory buildings have elevated walkways that you can place planes under.  I am working on placing a Gotha under the walkway as well as two more. Their machine guns should be a good deterrent but a nice AAA gun would make it a little more dangerous. No need to kill the AAA gun just the three Gothas.

Worried about using AI planes as targets. Might be overload.  It makes the General more dangerous because you have to investigate an area just like the Spy. It gives us a target we know we can put on the map when there we are unable to have trains or ships on rivers.

Too many points riding on one mission.  Also, the General is much easier to CAP than the Spy, so those 3 points will be a lot harder to get for one side than the other.  Not good.

Why not just have a spy mission for both sides; what's the real difference other than what the vehicle looks like?

Limit the total points to 2 for any one sequence of missions....that's my opinion.

Or invert the point count for general and spy. Make the general worth 3 points and the spy worth 2. Spy is almost impossible to defend and hasn't been defended recently while the General gets capped every time. Should be worth more points to go into a mission that is easier and more likely to be guarded than one where you almost never run into trouble. In the half dozen times I escorted Loopy we only ran across one Camel and I'm not sure if he didn't just happen to be in the area.

Or make them both spies and worth the same.

Totally agree that the General is easier to cap.  Definitely an advantage to the team defending him.  Would like to keep him as is though. The slight difference in missions adds a little flavor to the pot.

Agree that a 3 point mission creates a large swing in points. Would still like to keep the HQ recon a 3 pointer.

I do think that having both Spy and General investigate an area to find another target is a good feature. It helps prevent people from running around the edge of the map. It creates more danger and the opportunity for air combat.

We could take the Reserve unit away from the Spy. When you land with the Spy, you just get one point for bringing him home. Someone has to bomb the Espion target. That is your second point as part of the Spy mission..

The Central side is doing a Strategic recon. It is only one point. It could be used as a trigger for the Reserve unit .

For Entente the General works the same way. You bring him home for 1 point. Someone else kill the Hidden Bombers at a Factory. That is the second point for the General.

The General is the Trigger for the Trench Attack Point. The Front Line Recon is the trigger for the Reserve Unit.  Would make sense to have the Front line recon trigger the trench Attack Point?

We could use the killing of the Factory, Aerodrome or Bridge to trigger the Reserve Unit but I don't like it. I like the idea that you have to get back to base to generate a new target.

Or, we could leave the Reserve Unit as it is as well as the Trench Attack Point. That would make the General 3 and the Spy 2.

Or, just leave them both as 3.

I really like them as just worth 2.

While I try to bring you a variety of options that allow you the widest possible choice in outcomes that lead to the greatest variation in game play, I am not sure that I present these choices and variations in a manor that is consistent with actually offering a choice as the decision making process is always influenced by a larger input from each person's personal experience, ambitions and desire to win the contest while being fair to all players and teams, knowing that we switch sides in an effort to level an otherwise uneven and diverse set of mission that provide a background for a semi believable scenario on which to base game play in an effort to make an enjoyable as well as exciting experience for a variety of people from all over the world.

"You mean I don't really have a choice."

"Of course you have a choice Minister"

"As long as it is your choice Humphrey?"

....

....

"Yes Minister."

Open to suggestions.

Choice #1   Sack Humphrey.

I definitely love this part. You just need your own Bernard Woolley  :D

I meant to send you the supply depot before or after Monday's practice, but I wasn't able to attend.  I have the supply depot finished, and I did it in a way that you could actually alter the target within the depot (I'll explain that later).  I also have the gun emplacement as well.  If I'm able to climb online tonight I could send you those groups.

Ok,

Think I figured out one solution.

Switch it so that the Front line Recon triggers the Trench Attack. Pictures show build up on trenches.   Makes sense.

Use the Rescue mission to trigger the Reserve Unit. You bring him home and he tells you about Reserve units he heard his guards talking about. You have to land at friendly base as usual to trigger second mission.

Both General and Spy tell you to search an area for a target.  You bring them home to get 1 point. You send out bombers to kill target you found. Second point.

Sound OK?

No  no no

Both are worth 2 points

God, I am so terrible at explaining.

The Prisoner Rescue is now worth 2 points. You rescue him (1 point ), and when you get home, he tells you location of Reserve Unit ( 1 point.).

The Front line recon is worth 2 points. You do the recon ( 1 point ), and he tells you about the Trench Attack point ( 1 point ).

The Spy is only worth 2 points.  You pick him up and get him home ( 1 point ), On the way home he tells you to search an area  where you get a location for another target (1 point ).

The general is only worth 2 points. You pick him up and get him home ( 1 point ), On the way home he tells you to search an area  where you get a location for another target (1 point ).

Is that better or still confusing?  We take 1 point from the General or Spy mission and add it to the Rescue Prisoner mission.

Only 3 point mission is the HQ recon.
