Guide to ROF skin packs ?

On the official ROF useful material  page , is there some type of guide or list I could look at before downloading skin packs I'll never use ?

https://riseofflight.com/forum/topic/45373-new-useful-materials-page-official-links/

Unless gifted I don't have any reason to buy allied planes so I don't need those skins. But,, since I have all central kites except for the Gotha and the float plane I'd like to have a few German skins that are not personal to others. Preferably JG1 if available.   I was informed by a fellow squady that since they are no longer doing updates etc to ROF that contacting Butzzell ,,Vonrd or other skin masters for my own personal skins was a waste of time.

Thanks in advance,,

Hi Sturtz,

I would think about what you'd like on your personal skins.  What colors and emblem you'd like to use. Flying Circus is around the corner, and we'll be able to create new paint schemes for that.

Regarding the ROF skin packs, there is no way to take what you want and leave the rest.  So you'll need to download and install the official skin pack (1.033) which is 3.21 GB.  And then you'll want to download all of the historical skins (vols. 1 through 19).  And then all of the fictitious skins (vols. 1 through 19).

That way, you'll see all of JG1s skins.  BUT... you'll also see the skins of the squadrons that we fly with and against.

Hope this helps!

As I absorb more and more experience from you guys I'm still amazed how you can not only spot the enemy but call the plane type from quite a distance as well. At this point I just don't shoot till I see roundels. Flying in a large gaggle and knowing who is who impresses me as well. I realize this will come in time . I do know a couple of the guy's schemes now and have learned 3 or 4 voices on TS.

I've thought about a skin Klai and have decided to keep it simple when the time comes. Something like Luft's kites. Some type of stripes or easy to see at close range markings without all the flashy colors.

I downloaded enough now to not look like Ai .  LOL

It’ll definitely come in time. :)

What is our process for doing up a skin exactly?

I have an emblem that I'm rather fond of.

For Richthofen, we generally go with our Jasta color, plus a second color of the pilot’s choosing. Though, this is a pretty fluid thing, and you’ll see a lot of variation. We also select an emblem or pattern that can identify us.

We also recommend that people consider the need to identify people from a distance. Thus, big markings are better than small intricate ones.

And, we try to get them into the ballpark of pseudo-historical. They don’t have to be perfect, but we try and avoid the NASCAR look.

Finally, all skins should be approved by the Stofl (Richthofen HQ).

Hope this helps!

.... Something like Luft's kites....

They're not my kites   :)   I just have all of the skin packs, then for each plane type I pick one or two that are my favorites from either the "official" or the "historical" skin set for those planes (I don't pick from the "personal" skins because a lot of folks don't bother downloading those).  Then I made two lists, one for Entente crates, and one for Central crates, and list each plane (I have all of them), and the skin that I prefer for them.  I go strictly by the design....I don't care what squadron it's from; I think there's only about one that's actually a J4 skin, and few that are from JG1.  The reason for that is that I don't have any knowledge of how to make my own skins, and probably never will have the time to do stuff like that.  So because I'll never have a JG1 skin, I just use whatever; and honestly, I like the quality of the designs made by the professionals out there, and anything I tried to design I think would just end up looking amateurish or unrealistic.  If I had my druthers, I think I'd choose something close to one of my favorites and adapt it to all of the planes, and then just add a big "LR" on the top wing, fuselage, or whatever.

There really aren't that many that I consider outstanding for each plane (the Halb D.II and the Alb D.II are particularly disappointing).  Jocassee and I have the same tastes, and we often end up in the same skin.     ;)
