Experiences of a new Pilot

Having just discovered RoF about a month ago, it has been a meteoric experience. From starting off hardly being able to fly despite being an ex pilot and 4 years on ED I was a fledgling recruit again. As my flying began to take shape I searched for a group to join. As usual few Aussies about, EU group, wrong time zone, and then I put up a request in the RoF forums and was directed here. Intense training with Mox Vonrd and Klieg who really helped me take my flying sense to a new lvl. I have said it before however its worth saying again. The fact that the group has invested so much in me already deepens the bond of loyaty to the Jagdgeschwader.

It was then I started to realise the short comings of my Logitech 3D Extreme Pro stick. It takes alot of force to move it and then I am always over correcting especially with Yaw movements. So Thrustmaster pedals next. Couldnt even take off with my first Hard Look session just a week ago.    So I went as a gunner with Klieg. Didnt take long to get the hang of the pedals and now rudder movement is coming along nicely. However it made the other flaws of the Logitech stick stand out more especially after flying in the Dr1 with Luft. Much thanks to him for his patience and guidance.

My first career flight with the group was great. No kills although I didnt get killed or lost. Thx to Hotlead for taking me under his wing. Flaws in the stick very apparent by now. Having to move my hand by a mm to get alignment just to breathe and then have it thrown offline again.

So onto searching for a new stick. Here in Australia we have very limited resources. Thrustmaster, Logitech and CH are about it. I am still chasing a VKB Gladiator however after chatting to a few guys, thx Hotlead, Luft et al I went out yesterday and bought the CH Fighterstick. Honestly it feels a bit plasticy, the software is dated back to XP, lol. however the changes were immediate. My plane now acts as a gun platform, stable without jerking all over the place. So again I am in adjustment phase however on the standard server yesterday evening I held my own and even shot down 2 planes. (The crowd roars  :D).

Sadly the 2pm FiF is hard for me however I can fly most days due to my odd working hours. So if anyone is looking to fly and wants a wingman pls find me on the JG1 TS

Lastly if anyone in the US knows a reliable source for the VKB Gladiator pls drop me a pm.

So glad to see you're happy with your experiences with JG1    :D   My hat's off to those trainers who bring new recruits to the level of being comfortable with us   ^_^

Although we would love nothing better than having you join us in FiF, we understand your time zone limitations.

If you have times that you're most available, post here.  If you relate that to UTC or North American time zones, it would help us a lot; we can put in an extra effort to meet with you.  As for needing a wing man, who wouldn't appreciate that?

Help us help you   ;)

I can make it Mondays to Thursdays at 8pm CDT or thereabouts onwards. Pretty much the same time as for Wargrounds and Career night.

Schafer ,,,,Sorry my CH Manager assistance didn't work well for your Team Speak button mapping the other day. Hopefully you went to YouTube and watched some vids that show how to use mapped mode etc. I do know you cannot have TeamSpeak running while mapping buttons etc.

Anyway,, being an old low-tech pc repairman and game machine builder I often use Team Viewer to remotely go into customer's computers and set stuff up or fix errors etc. You seem to know your way around this stuff so I'm sure you have it all in the bag now.

Here's a vid using the CH Fighter stick and a decent how to map buttons and controls etc.

That video helped alot. And I see that there is a load sequence in order to get it to work correctly. I now have button 3 mapped to TS  :)
