FIF 2019 Rules Modifications:

FIF 2019, like FIF 2017 and FIF 2018, will be slightly different than past Flanders events.

The following are rules adjustments that all participating pilots should be aware of.

Please let Klaiber know if there are any questions regarding these event modifications.

If clarification is needed, I will amend the following information.

. . .

1. Official FIF sessions will only be flown on Saturdays.

While free-fly and “fun” events may happen on Wednesdays, all official sessions will take place on Saturdays at a regularly scheduled time.

Please see the FIF Calendar post to plan your availability.

2. FIF 2019 will have 16 total objectives per session.

It won't be easy for a team to achieve all 16 objectives within one session. This is by design.

Part of a team’s strategy will be in prioritizing what objectives should be attempted within the two-hour mission window available.

Please see the FIF Objectives post to familiarize yourself with all changes.

3. FIF 2019 has a modified organizational structure, dividing itself into three seasonal campaigns.

FIF 2019 is a year long event.

FIF 2019 is divided into Winter, Spring and Fall campaigns (shown below with tentative dates):

  • Winter Campaign: January 2019 to March 2019
  • Spring Campaign: May 2019 to July 2019
  • Fall Campaign: October 2019 to December 2019

Each of these campaigns will be subdivided into two "phases of play":

The planned phases are:

  • Winter Campaign:
    • Phase A
    • Phase B
  • Spring Campaign:
    • Phase A
    • Phase B
  • Fall Campaign:
    • Phase A
    • Phase B

Further, each phase will be composed of four sessions each.

For example:

  • Phase A = sessions A1, A2, A3, A4
  • Phase B = sessions B1, B2, B3, B4

Half way through a phase (i.e. between sessions A2/B2 and A3/B3), the two teams will flip sides, ensuring that both teams fly for the Central Powers and the Entente Powers.

This will ensure that both teams are able to fly all tournament aircraft.

A phase winner is determined by the team that has the higher objective total after four sessions.

Note that ties (known as “stalemates”) are now possible within phases.

When a team wins a phase, they receive 1 "Phase Point".  If a tie happens, both teams receive 0 "Phase Points".

A campaign winner is the team that has the most "Phase Points" after two phases of play (Phase A + Phase B ).

If both teams have the same number of "Phase Points", the campaign ends in a tie (stalemate).

A campaign ribbon is then awarded to all participants.

For example, here is a fictitious Spring Campaign between to made-up teams:

Spring Campaign:

  • Mission A1 - Green Team gets 12 / Yellow Team gets 10
  • Mission A2 - Green Team gets 10 / Yellow Team gets 12
  • Mission A3 - Green Team gets 11 / Yellow Team gets 11
  • Mission A4 - Green Team gets 13 / Yellow Team gets 13
    • Phase A ends in stalemate (Green Team 46 / Yellow Team 46).
    • Green Team gets 0 "Phase Points".
    • Yellow Team gets 0 "Phase Points".
  • Mission B1 -  Green Team gets 12 / Yellow Team gets 13
  • Mission B2 -  Green Team gets 8 / Yellow Team gets 12
  • Mission B3 -  Green Team gets 12 / Yellow Team gets 12
  • Mission B4 -  Green Team gets 11 / Yellow Team gets 12
    • Phase B ends with a Yellow Team victory (Yellow Team 49 / Green Team 43).
    • Yellow Team gains a 1 "Phase Point".
    • Green Team gets 0 "Phase Points"
    • Yellow Team wins the Spring Campaign with more Phase Points: 1 to 0.
  • A Spring Campaign ribbon is given out to all participants.

The overall winner of the FIF 2019 season is determined by which team has won the most Campaigns.

Note that ties (stalemates) are still statistically possible, though unlikely on a campaign level.

With the campaign winner determined, a campaign decoration will then be given out to celebrate the completion of the overall year-long event.
