Quintessential wing man performance there, folks....he saved my ass, without any doubt. I got over-confident, considering what I could do in RoF or could have done earlier in FC in this plane; I also misjudged my opponent, who....was just fine with me going all the way to the ground with him. I also thought being so light....5% fuel....I could stay with him in any ground level turn. But I was wrong....and it does make me sad to say that no Dr.1, no matter how light, can stick with a Camel at ground level any more (in FC). Lesson well learned. It is hard to tell, but I got wounded from that first Camel and lost most of my elevator authority, so I was little help afterwards. It is amazing to see that Brit had more ability to fire accurately than I did at that time, even though he had only half of his lower wings. I also commend you for keeping your engine alive during that extended decent. Very many people would have blown their engine in a Dr.1 during that. I also see that you experienced the extreme left turn reluctance of the Dr.1 at least a couple of times. That turns most people off to the Dr.1. Thanks for sticking with it, when others wouldn't! Thanks Brit!!! Your victories were well-won. You have my gratitude and I'll fly with you any time. S!

Guys, I love ALL aspects and theaters of WWII. I would love to do them ALL assuming it was possible. My job is to create an achievable, marketable and compelling product that most current and new users would be interested in buying. I've diversified our product line a bit with FC1 and TC because as we keep moving forward, tough decisions on what or what not to build will become harder to swallow if your favorite theater isn't built. Deciding what to build is not easy. And deciding to not make something is even tougher because you know someone will be disappointed. A lot of planes are impossible to make flyable simply because we don't have the references or data to make them accurate or even close to accurate. I think the general public underestimates how hard it is to make a plane to our standards, and our standards, well visual standards at least, are not even as extreme as some other products are. Our other standards are quite high and some of the highest ever in a sim so don't take that the wrong way. And some maps are almost impossible to make too due to distances or just general lack of playability or lack of info. I have a plan for our next product and if we execute it as I hope, I think it will pretty awesome. The current dev. cycle stretched our ability to the max. and we have endured many unforeseen delays and issues out of our control. It's not been easy. I hope the next round is easier. One of our team members recently was in a bad car accident, and now he has a hematoma on his brain causing us to scramble for the next update. Very scary. Eventually we will need to build a new engine, when that actually happens is not necessarily known yet. I don't believe in building from complete scratch these days. The biggest work would be in the area of visuals and terrain of course and graphics in general. That part may be from scratch. Everything else would be an evolution of sorts. That is the safest bet for us to stay alive for a long time. Jason Will we get FC2

Thanks Luft! Yeah, I blew the engine in the Pfalz in the next sortie, though That blip switch is something I learned early in RoF with the Eindecker, it translated really well.

Well in electronics you get a very deep respect for the metric system; and in our world, how it relates to our stupid "imperial" system. Back in the late 1970's or early 80's the US began to try to convert officially to the metric system, but it failed and they abandoned the attempt. The main thing we consumers noticed was highway speed limit signs with both MPH and KPH on them; and cars had speedometer scales that showed both. Of course now you can push a button and your digital gauge will read out either.... However any technical or science related career will quickly demonstrate how much better the metric system is. That being said.....there is one area that I prefer our current standard, and that is in temperature. Celsius degrees are greater than Fahrenheit degrees....and therefore not as accurate, or descriptive, IMHO. I can feel a degree of F, and I feel like a degree of C is too much play when it comes to temperature regulation. Although Degrees F has no real reference like degrees C does, it is a finer scale. So I like it better. Does that mean I couldn't live with Celsius? No it does not. If it meant that we got everything else, hell yeah, it's well worth it.

Very nice Heinrich! Are these finalized versions? I will add them to the next FC Skinpack update. One slight thing... the CL.2 might be a little dark. Are you using my template? (I don't believe there is an "official" one out yet). I probably have the "tint" or "multiply" layer too heavy. You could try reducing opacity on one or both of these layers. I continue to struggle with getting the colors right so that they are not too "vibrant" or too dark. The skinviewer doesn't render them accurately and having to restart the game and wait for it to load a mission for every change is a time suck and gets tiresome. Larner sent me this and these seem to work pretty well: Hi Vonrd! I've been meaning to get in touch and share some tips I've discovered in achieving 'natural' colours for FC skinning, but up until now it's totally slipped my mind When doing the US103 skins I found myself tearing my hair out trying to get natural-looking shades of red and yellow, but I eventually figured it out! As a lot of JG1's skins are very heavy on those two colours, I thought I'd share. Here's what I found! A General Colour Tip: The first thing I realised is that, when I selected the exact colour I wanted, it never seemed to come out quite right in-game. After fiddling with the colours for a bit, I discovered that you have to go a lot darker with the colour you use to get the 'right' shade in-game. Here's a quick example: For this D.VII, I wanted to paint the nose in standard J11 red. I first selected that exact colour, a bright scarlet. However, in-game this ended up being really vibrant - almost plasticy: In order to correct this, I brought the tone of the red down from scarlet to a darker red and tried again. It was still a little too vibrant, so I went further. Eventually, I ended up with a surprisingly dark shade of red: It seems too dark when you select the colour, but this shade works very nicely in-game, and gives (in my opinion) a more natural-looking shade of red. Here you can see it next to the original D.VII: This rings true for pretty much all colours. Red, White, Blue, etc. etc. Working with Yellow: I quickly discovered that Yellow is much harder to work with than red, and finding the right shade can be very tricky. When selecting the exact colour I wanted, the Yellow would come out very wrong in-game. It would have a neon quality about it and appeared like someone had draped a hi-vis jacket over the nose! I tried initially to rectify this by 'dulling down' the yellow, and it had a good effect, but there was still quite a 'neon-y' appearance. I managed to fix this by adding a tiny bit of orange tone into the colour. With that, it gave a far more natural 'painted' looking yellow: And here's an in-game example. This is the way I got the shade I used on Luft's Alb: Anyway, just thought I'd share these findings with a fellow skin-maker. S!

Hello, I want to buy the table mount from Monstertech for my Virpil MT50 Joystick. Reasonale behind it is that the Monstertech has a flat top fitting to the table. Therefore I can move the keyboard right to the end of the table. While with the Virpil mount it's another 8 cm/3.15" [*] away. For the joystick I use the VPC desk mount in a centered position with the full VPC Flightstick Extension set clamped to the table. Now at Monstertech they have a Pitch Adapter to improve the ergonomically grip on the joystick. The adapter comes in 3 angles sizes: 6-8-10 degrees. I wonder what angle would be best. Any suggestions, from experience in-game or real life, what size to buy? All 3 was already on my mind πŸ˜€. *is it 3.15 or 3 5/32 inch??

I really don't think that's any big deal....I'll bet you could simply register on the stats server, whenever; and I doubt anybody at all would have any beefs. So long as the server wasn't completely full and both sides were reasonably balanced. This event, this year, seems a lot less formal and hard-lined, since it is breaking new ground and things are being learned as they progress. Of course I won't speak for the organizers, but it's a simple matter of asking, and IMHO the chances of a no answer seem pretty remote. I personally like the way it's being handled and think they're doing a great job. Everybody seems to be having a lot of fun. I think it's going to be well-remembered for a long time. I would definitely recommend trying to get in on it if at all possible, before it's over for the year.

S! Luft, I'm a mercenary pilot. If one should take a weekend off, that should be me. Next weekend, I will wait until all are in the game, before choosing a side. If no spot are available, I'll go practice my DCS Mig plane. Cheers, Gen

I would say that if you KNOW there is somebody on the game server who is waiting out a death penalty, and you're waiting to get in, go into their comm channel and tell them. They may be under the assumption that the limit is not reached. I know I asked a couple of times and was told that we were under our limit. Personally, I wasn't dead, but I did have to leave and fix something like you did. When I came back, I had no problem getting back on the server. With regard to the server capacity, I doubt they will do that. I believe a gunner takes as much resources from the server as a pilot does. I think that the limitation imposed is because of the limitations of the server's performance. There WERE some odd occurrences that appeared to be caused by the server being so full, but not so many that it affected the game play to any significant extent. Perhaps J5 will see your post and make a determination on this.

Thank you for highlighting this, Heinrich. Ashamedly, I am guilty of this oversight during my first death penalty. I kept looking at the scoreboard in game that showed 22-23 per side, assuming we didn't hit the cap.

A while back, probably while doing some kind of simple English/Metric conversions, I realized that the .303 round just didn't add up, and started researching why. The answer was made apparent through the history of rifled artillery in the British armed forces; however, it lead to a lot more information that was surprising to me. It included information on the historical evolution of that round....how technological advances changed the internal structure of the round and in what way it was meant to be effective in killing human beings. It also showed legislation, treaties and agreements between countries that attempted to limit or eliminate "inhumane" ways of killing people, and how that affected the evolution of the round, and how that ended up creating the end-product that was used at that time. Those are the rounds being shot at us from the Vickers and Lewis guns of our enemies. I didn't really look too deeply past the German standard for measurement of caliber which made it seem like a larger round, but which wasn't. I do remember from somewhere that the German rounds were steel jacketed instead of the softer copper used for the British rounds. It seems to me that fact was driven by a shortage of certain metals during the war, and apparently steel was not a problem for them. It would not surprise me to learn that some of that stuff occurred even before the war started, however.

Define "properly". Even in gun measurments, you may notice that the Vickers in WWI is called a ".303", where as if you convert a 7.62 mm it is a bigger caliber. Then you find that back then they (the British) measured the distance between the highest points of the rifling, not the bore size....what is the bore size exactly, anyway.... In the end, it's the same size round; and actually it (the Vickers) renowned for it's power, range and accuracy, for that size. The rate of fire will always be subject to arguments, as it will on German guns too. Everything has a tolerance. Many, if not most folks do not understand the importance of this. Many people here will (Razwald and others). Definitions are important, though, there is no doubt.

I sure do wish that we had converted to metric. It would have meant that I would need only one set of sockets and wrenches... Another gripe is "British Standard"... what an oxymoron... nothing standard about it and requires another set of tools. Whitworth tools can be difficult to identify. For example a 1/4W wrench is the same size as a 5/16BS (British Standard) wrench, and it is .525 inches across the flats, or 13.34mm. As you can see, there is no inch or metric wrench of this size. Only a Whitworh size wrench will fit properly! Please measure for your application before ordering Whitworth tools.
