    All,
We're proud to announce a new collaboration with the IRFC and Syndicate squadrons:
    https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/88061-ad-astra-server/
    Let the dogfights begin!
    . . .
    Fellow sim pilots,
Today is the day that we've been looking forward to sharing with you all for several months. Admittedly, the Ad Astra camp has fallen silent in recent weeks. This silence is because we have been planning a major restructure that will fundamentally shift the composition and goal of the Ad Astra project.
Today, Ad Astra ceases to be produced by one squadron. It becomes a true sim collective comprised of the Imperial Royal Flying Corps (IRFC), Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG1), and Syndicate Squadron (SYN). These three squadrons all have rich histories in the sim flying community.
IRFC was founded in 2010 and provided "IRFC Bomber Nights" to the fledgling Rise of Flight community; after an 11-year hiatus from server hosting, they founded Ad Astra in mid-2023.  JG1 was founded in 1992 as part of the Red Baron online community; in the following decades, they have been pillars of the WWI flying community as producers of the Flanders in Flames campaign. The Syndicate was founded in 2006 and, as producers of the "Sunday Vintage Mission" series, nearly single-handedly kept the Rise of Flight multiplayer community alive for three years. These three squadrons will be teaming up to deliver you the first multi-era server in IL2 multiplayer history. Moreover, we hope to provide a WWI experience that is accessible and enjoyable to the WWII aviation community while delivering a WWII experience that is accessible and enjoyable to the WWI community.
We will focus our WWII experience on the first aerial battles of the Second World War. To start, we will deliver the Battle of Britain; the Battles of France and Belgium will follow this.
A typical week in the Ad Astra server rotation will look like this:
Mondays WWI Rotation Maps Tuesdays "Aces Rising" - WWI Community Event Wednesdays WWII Rotation Maps Thursdays "Aces Falling" - WWII Community Event Fridays "Bomber Nights" - WWI Community Event Saturdays Periodical, Organized Campaign Nights on Ad Astra Sundays "The Sunday Roast" - WWII Community Event Stay tuned for more updates! We appreciate your patience as we strive to deliver this new, exciting gameplay experience.

Discord kept crashing on me tonight. Google brought up these recommendations:
In Discord, navigate to User Settings and click on it. In the left pane, scroll down to Appearance. Then in the right pane, scroll down to Hardware Acceleration and make sure it's turned off. Delete Discord app data. Press the Windows logo key and R at the same time, then type %AppData%. Go to C:\Users\Whoever you are \AppData\Roaming\discord\Cache\Cache_Data and delete everything in there. It was HUGE... 🦣 about 1.8TB (yes, I'm exaggerating, but it was very large) .
I'm hoping that this works. Due to the enormous size of the Discord cache, I'm hopeful and think that it should be a regular part of housekeeping.

Depicting Fw190A-3 Wk. Nr. 313 of Stab III./JG2, flown by Adjutant, Oblt. Arnim Faber who after shooting down a Spitfire flown by by Sergeant Trejtnar of 310 Squadron (Czech) RAF mistakenly landed at RAF Pembrey in South Wales on 23 June 1942.
Includes three versions, two in Luftwaffe markings pre-capture (Luftwaffe markings has one with and one without swastika) and one post capture after being repainted in RAF colors / markings and given the RAF serial number MP499 and a 'P' for prototype. Interesting that they retained the "Fighting Gamecock" emblem of III./JG2.

Loved this game back in the day!
And I was reminded of it some years ago when I played Sid Meier's Ace Patrol -- similar mechanics, in that for each aircraft you choose a manoeuvre (some planes are better than others at certain turns, etc.), then click 'end turn' and watch the results play out ...

A military historian friend posted this on Facebook ... three squares already checked off in the first episode!  (Plus another if you count 'Stay with me, goddamn it!' as equivalent to 'Don't you die on me!'.  And it's not clear whether the wound was caused by cannon or MG fire, so I'll leave that square blank for now 😉)

Early in my career I knew pilots who did this and it was fascinating how they could catch the pictures taken from satellites on re-entry. This is how they got the pictures for the Cuban missile crisis. Back in the day when we only had wired telephones pay phone booths!

Maushake reacted to Vonrd in JG1's ACME "Aces over Crimea" goes "Live" this Saturday!
This event is strictly player vs. player (with minor exceptions in AI supply columns, trains, ships and AI guns / tanks at capture points. The guns / tanks are not mobile).
The success of this event is highly dependent on player participation. Last Saturday's dry run attendance was low, therefore for maximin team play, it will require your attendance. Especially tankers.
Registration is encouraged, for team balance, but all are welcome and will be included.
There have not been many events well attended recently in IL2 Great Battles (with the possible exception of JG5s Black September) and there are discussions in the community that online events are currently in a downward spiral.
Come join us and prove that wrong!

I mentioned this tonight and wanted to share with the rest:

Allows you to build a virtual button box with a tablet or phone. Native to Android but they just released support for iOS devices. Great for when you run out of bindings.

The star of Aces High, Malcolm McDowell, has been here in town the last few summers filming a TV series which I've been trying (so far without success) to get a role on!  I've been hoping to get the chance to meet him and be (probably) the first fan to mention that deep cut from his oeuvre, something other than A Clockwork Orange, If ..., or even Caligula 😆

That is so cool you actually met him! And I haven't seen Aces High yet... probably need to do that at some point! I can definitely see where "Bodie" was the inspiration for that character. 😄
