February 12, 201313 yr comment_6000 That's a great picture of a I./JG 3 109! Where did you find it? PS: Just noticed the number is your number... I'm sure you escaped. Report
February 13, 201313 yr Author comment_6003 That's exactly why I picked it XD I'm still trudging through http://www.histomil.com/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=3918 picking out good photos. I found a picture from Northern Africa where two ground crew members are eating lunch behind a #4. I made it my desktop. Later I was looking through a book I've had for ~25 years, "Bf-109 Aces of North Africa and the Mediterranean," and I found the same aircraft during pre-flight and just as they taxi out of the exact same line-up. It had to be from all the same camera. Report
February 13, 201313 yr comment_6005 Bah, stick to the Fw-190 and everything will be fine. Pre-190 the 109 was superior in every way anyhow. I would not fear the Russian front. Report
February 13, 201313 yr comment_6008 I would not fear the Russian front. Famous last words. Bogus! Report
February 13, 201313 yr comment_6016 I did join GS AFTER Kursk but I don't see how it could be that bad. Report
February 14, 201313 yr Author comment_6020 Barton, my references to the Russian front have been anchored in the historical sense and not Il-2. I'm not certain but I believe Klaiber's have been, too. Report
February 14, 201313 yr comment_6025 In the context of ACTUALLY flying the East front in late '43 and on, hell NO! I would not trade places with any pilot on the Russian front. Yak-3s and La-5FNs are tough enough in small numbers, let alone being outnumbered by them. Report
