Klaiber
Btw: is this aircraft formally "Black 9", flown by Ofw. Walter Sommer? Bf 109 E-3 2023, ex-Bf 109E-7, ex-8./JG 5 "Black 9" (pilot Ofw. Walter Sommer) - crashed 27 May 1943, Military Aviation Museum[102] Virginia Beach, Virginia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_surviving_Messerschmitt_Bf_109s#United_States Or is this a second aircraft? Lee
I'll track down the history the next time I'm at the museum (been under the weather the last couple of weeks). The restoration is being done by Meier Motors, see the link below (in German). http://www.meiermotors.com/index.php/projekte/messerschmitt-bf109/messerschmitt-bf109-g-fighterfactory?showall=&limitstart=

Heide
Does this thing have a Daimler engine?
Lee
Check the Meier Motors link above. It has pictures of the engine on the second page showing a Mercedes Benz logo.

Erhardt
The 109 is the coolest airplane ever! Love the sound of the engine! Get better soon Sir!
Spies
This aircraft is a Buchon C.4K-64 according to http://www.warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-news/messerschmitt-progress.htmlwith a mercedes DB605.
Spies
I think it is this one HA-1112-M1L c/n 133 C.4K-64 (N109FF), ex-USAFM, , Military Aviation Museum, Virginia Beach, Virginia, being engined with DB605 http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N109FF.html
Klaiber
With most people converting their Buchons into "Bf 109s", it makes me wonder how many preserved Buchons are left with their original Spanish Markings.
Spies
http://www.airport-data.com/search/search2.html?field=model&search=Search&code=Hispano+HA-1112-M1L+Buchon still a few left
Klaiber
There definitely seem to be a few left with Spanish markings, which makes me happy. The desire for German markings must be so strong, that I was worried that many would ignore the aircraft's Spanish origins in the effort to fill the "Bf 109" void. Spies
If I had the money I would also convert a Buchon into a 109 but that would have to happen after buying the FW190 and BMW801 from the Laatzen museum and make them airworthy.
