Butzzell
S! All, We are getting things ready for the start of the Spring campaign. The Dry run will be at the usual time on 6, May 2017 ( notice how I avoid screwing it all up by not putting in the wrong time). Hostilities start 13, May 2017 The Dry run will have extra planes and no death penalty. We will be flying in the region around Laon. The Entente side has some nice hills and valleys. The area will be smaller than usual because we will be flying the very early planes. A practice map will be running on the JG1 server so people can see the area and practice missions. Kill the balloon at the 2 seater base to restart the server. phase A Entente DH2 and FE2b Central E3 and Roland phase B Entente N-17, a few N-11, and RE8 Central Halb D.II and Halb CL early There was concern about the mission chains being too long, such as if you kill or prevent the spy or General mission, you block 3 points. Those two missions have been changed. You still bring the Spy or General back to friendly territory for 1 point and on the way they tell you to search a sector. When you search the sector a new target pops up. That is their second point. Since the planes doing these missions do not carry bombs, another plane with bombs is needed to kill the target. The rescue mission gives 1 point when you get him home to a friendly airfield. After you land, he now tells you about a Reserve Unit target. The front line Recon gives 1 point when you get the pictures home. After you land, it tells you the Trench Attack point target. The HQ recon mission was left as a 3 point chain to create focus for action. The Wreath Drop has been changed. We were using the enemy 2 seater base as the place to drop the wreath. Unfortunately the heavy AAA made this a 50/50 suicide run. The idea to move the drop location was well received. But where to move it to? A hospital? Yes! 2 hospitals have been added to each side. Either hospital can be used for the wreath drop. There is only minor AAA by the hospital. Hospitals are hard to find on the map as they will be a little red dot with the name hospital. Actual hospital is a large building with a blue roof. Always close to a village and very easy to spot. Since our General capture mission was changed, his subtitles now look like Our objective list for each side now looks like Entente Recon of HQ Recon of Front Lines Rescue Factory Bridge General Capture Aerodrome Arty Spot Recon of HQ Secondary mission( pops up when Recon of HQ is complete ) Reserve Unit (pops up when Rescue mission is complete ) Front line Unit (pops up when Arty Spot completes ) Trench Attack ( pops up when Recon of Front Lines complete) Destroy HQ ( pops up when HQ Recon complete ) Bombers at a Factory ( Pops up when you land and pick up General ) Wreath Drop (pops up after Enemy Ace is killed ) Central Recon of HQ Epionage ( spy mission) Rescue Strategic Recon Factory Bridge Aerodrome Arty Spot Recon of HQ Secondary mission (pops up when Recon of HQ is complete ) Reserve Unit (pops up when Rescue mission is complete ) Front line Unit (pops up when Arty Spot completes ) Espion Target (pops up when you land and pick up spy ) Destroy HQ ( pops up when HQ Recon complete ) Destroy Off Road Convoy (pops up when strategic recon is complete ) Wreath Drop (pops up after Enemy Ace is killed ) An example oft the map. 2seater base underlined in yellow. Butzzell
S! All Dry run is set for Saturday 6, May, 2017 at 2 pm Eastern daylight saving time USA, 1800 UTC. Some planes will be unlimited as there is no death penalty for this session. Because of mission mechanics, most of the special 2 seaters will remain limited. As you can see above, many of our missions have been slightly altered. Please note that the FE2b will be allowed twin guns in the front. The Roland only gets 1 gun in rear turret. NO twin guns for Roland. If you will be a commander or flying 2 seaters, please review the information about this session. We will be paying respects to a fallen hero, Captain Albert Ball, DSO,VC. An aggressive pilot, he was an inspiration to friend and foe alike. He was instrumental in taking the comity born SE5 and turning into the great fighting machine, the SE5a. His favorite tactic was to position himself below an enemy and fire upward. This is why the SE5a had the Foster mounted Lewis gun. His death is still clouded in mystery. His crashed plane did not show battle damage and he himself had not been hit. Basic Albert Ball info at WIKI Klaiber and Pfeil

He slept in a shack behind the hangers rather that with his mates, where he would play his violin all hours of the night. He was slow to take to the SE5, and only accepted it grudgingly when it became obvious that he could not keep up with his squad mates in his beloved N17. Butzzell
S! All Just a reminder, we switch sides for this next session. Blue team will fly Entente and Red team will fly Central. Also, the was some question about altitudes for the Artillery spotting. Altitudes are in a vary narrow range. "To start the objective, a designated "arty" two-seater must pass over a friendly gun position or gunship. The two-seater must be within 500m horizontal and between 750m and 1250m in altitude. The arty two-seater then proceeds to the target as ordered, and passes within 1500m to observe the target. While he is spotting, the field guns will fire at the target for 2 minutes. When told to make another pass, the arty two-seater must first report back to the field guns by flying over them within the initial parameters. The pattern is repeated until the target is dead."
Kliegmann
Now you guys did it. They're in a very narrow RAGE. Must mean Butzzell set the flak at high

So, just to clarify ... the parameters for the friendly gun position and for the target are different, with no specific altitude designated for the target? In other words, acceptable area over the target is effectively a hemisphere of 1500m radius, whereas for the friendly gun position, it's a kind of cylinder hovering above the guns from 750m to 1250m in altitude, and 500m in radius? That's what this explanation seems to imply.

Do you mean 500m radius or diameter? If it goes vertically from 750 to 1250m, that sounds like a 250m radius. But then the phrase 'within 500m horizontal' in your description sounds like a 500m horizontal radius rather than diameter. Is it an oblate spheroid rather than a sphere? (I love that I'm getting to dig my high school geometry out of the cobwebs at the back of my mind. )
Butzzell
S! Shhhh! Don't tell anyone but there is a bit of a fudge factor thrown in for the metric vs imperial measurements.

Entente has N-11, N-17 and RE8. Central has Halb CL.II and Halb D.II. J5_Hotlead and Klaiber
