Britchot
I am excited to see Bodenplatte, for sure! Already preordered along with the La-5FN and Bf-109G-6, in fact However, I wonder why they’re using IL-2 to add WWI content when they already have RoF on the same engine? That actually disappoints me because RoF seems all but abandoned with that announcement. Edit: Read the thread and I see where they’re stepping forward instead of retrofitting; however, that will make all those aircraft we already own, obsolete. I guess I have gotten my money’s worth over the years, though. Flying Circus will finally give our loyal and patient Rise of Flight customers a new way forward into the future! Our eventual goal is to essentially re-build ROF inside of the Sturmovik universe and give WWI all the latest technology like VR, 64bit, DX11 and improved visuals. We will start by focusing on re-furbishing ten of our existing WWI airplanes and providing a partial map of France to fly and fight over. Subsequent Flying Circus products will further expand content and we’ll work to integrate Flying Circus into our Campaign and Career systems over time. Volume I is merely the first important step and it will be a lot of fun! If Flying Circus proves popular we can eventually fire up the Great War assembly line and break out the canvas and timber once again to make some new crates! Guynmere, Fonck, Coppens, McCudden, Bishop, Rickenbacker and von Richtofen shall fly again 100 years later! Baron and Klaiber
J5_Hotlead
Thanks for sharing, Baron! I am super-excited about this! I think merging the games has the potential to really increase “ROF Flying Circus’†playerbase as some WW2 guys might jump into the WW1 faction of the game for fun. Would also make the WW1 and WW2 factions of our own squad less divided, I think. All in all - AWESOME!!!
Klaiber
I have to admit, I am excited about the possibilities. I'll pre-order Bodenplatte and the two aircraft. And I'll start trying to get some stick time in BoX. It does suck that Flying Circus basically means RoF will be abandoned. But, from a development standpoint, it basically is already. I guess it's a de facto / de jure issue. Provided 1C / 777 can give us a clear way forward, I think WW1 can survive in the the Great Battles framework. J5_Hotlead
J2_Trupobaw had some good insights regarding whether Flying Circus will replace ROF right away, I thought: "Not in long time. RoF will retain bigger planeset, maps and career mode for looong time. I suspect that for some time RoF will be still used by SP, especially Career Mode, and big events like FiF/BA that use bigger planeset. I also expect the casual, day to day MP to move to FC." I think he's right. For sure, at least until mid 2018, ROF will stay alive and well. Even then, people will still return to it for big events like FiF etc. By the time ROF is officially a thing of the past (was going to happen sometime anyway), I think that Flying Circus will have taken the mantle - and hopefully have grown bigger and better than ROF ever was. Who knows? We might eventually get that ever-elusive zeppelin! I also see good opportunities to add theaters of war to the Flying Circus theme: - New Channel Battles - Austro-Italian Front with Alps - Improved Eastern Front with updated S-22 (The thing needs more defensive guns!!!) - Early-war scenarios - Really odd chance...desert front with the British vs the Ottoman Empire I am very hopeful for the future now! Kliegmann
I am super stoked about this. The tanks are AWESOME (allows me to long-term plan for my tournament writing, adding more balanced tank battles). The P-38L??? AWESOME!!!! I do hope they add in B-17s if anything as AI, so we can create bomber intercepts (but unless they fix the resource problems with large aircraft and bombers, that will be just a dream). It's disappointing that the B-25 is planned as AI only. In regards to the WWI stuff, I'm happy to see they are going to do something with it, unfortunately, it looks like they're going to use the same marketing strategy they are using with the WW2 stuff, put out a section, charge $70 for it, then put out the next section, charge $70 for it ect... the 100km x 100km (or 10 by 10 grid) is SUPER disappointing. Currently the 10 by 10 grids in BoX is used ONLY for air to air engagements. Now I do understand that the speeds between the eras are significant, but still..... Now back to the tanks, that is AWESOME news for my tournament. Opening more vehicles to players is something I was hoping they would do. Butzzell
However, I wonder why they’re using IL-2 to add WWI content when they already have RoF on the same engine? That actually disappoints me because RoF seems all but abandoned with that announcement. The engine for IL2 was rebuilt. It has many more capabilities including VR. A big S! to Hotlead about the announcement. He got it right. I thought they were going to announce the merger of the forums and the death of RoF because they were doing it on the IL2 forum area. This looks really good. I hope the small map size means they will be developing many small maps with high detail. People will get tired of only one map 100 x 100 km. That is barely twice the size of War Grounds or FiF. A new map and new planes every six months would be great. The IL2 engine is very robust. We can hope to see ground crews at airfields. Presently we have very few AI objects, about 80 or less. This will allow us about 200. Some of those will be targets and some will be AI decoration. FiF will change as new features and capabilities become utilized. Since pre-order may be available in the first half of next year, dare we hope for a special Christmas present in 2018? Also more AI objects in future FiFs would be awesome! I'm sure you could do an awesome job on that, Butzzell!
Butzzell
S! On another note, I think Tanks is an attempt to compete with World of Tanks and or War Thunder. Prokhorovka is a great historical battle field with many features. If they do it right and add new maps on a regular basis, I will be in a Tiger when not in a plane. Tiger in the artwork looks very nice.
Baron
It will be a tank simulator, not arcade like as WoT or WT. For example Tiger will have all positions for crew - except loader, he will AI - and ofcourse all positions will for human tankers. After many years finally we will have serious s tank simulator. Kliegmann
Yeah, I'm hoping that we will have some pretty epic tank battles in the tourney. Though they will initially be only T-34s vs PZ IIIs, the tank add-on, if it combines nicely with the flying, will add that something extra thats been missing. I also noticed the Zis - 72, and the Sdkfz - 38 in the line up. Those are AAA guns, so we could have player-controlled AAA guns. Britchot
They sold me on DX11 and VR support, I will be buying FC. I don’t recall the last time I paid for a plane in RoF and I suspect I won’t mind it for FC.
Kliegmann
Butzzell and I have talked several times about what FIF could be if only they made the game 64 bit and updated the game engine and editor.
IRFC Hawkeye
You don't think all that capability is going to limit what can be done with any normal MMP server? We'll see. Thanks all for the great news and info!! They had me at "hello" J5_Hotlead
Snaggle
I will keep my cash until I see a product... Sad not to see true bombers in Volume 1 of FC. Bristol and Halb CLII we will call them fighter bombers..... Match making was specifically mentions so does this mean we won't be able to have our own server to host games\tournaments.... A lot of questions at this point, but I must APPLAUD them for giving us something to look forward to!! Klaiber and J5_Hotlead
