Vonrd Posted January 8, 2020 Author Report Posted January 8, 2020 So, I was working on another screenshot where the subject is a 109 having it's guns harmonized by the armourers on the ground with the cowlings off. I needed a 3/4 view of the MG-17 nose guns but couldn't find a satisfactory image. This is the raw inspiration image. Ā I thought that it couldn't be too hard to do a 3D model of the guns, that way I could rotate it to whatever angle IĀ needed and take a screenshot to use in Photoshop... yeah, how hard could it be...Ā Ā I downloaded Blender and started checking Youtube tutorials... but Blender just changed from 2.7 to 2.8 and lots of the tools and shortcuts have been changed so any of the earlier tutorials were confusing... I'm slowly getting a handle on it though and really enjoying the process. Here's what I have after a couple of weeks of head scratching: Still have a long way to go though. Vonrd Posted January 27, 2020 Author Report Posted January 27, 2020 After a couple more weeks of struggle I'm beginning to get a handle on Blender. It's not totally accurate since I was unable to find good blueprints for the gun installation (and figuring out how to model the intricacies of the various individual parts is yet a bit beyond my kenĀ ) but still, I'm pretty pleased with the results and think it will work to give the illusion that I'm looking for. My intent is to do some "art" pieces using BOx screenshots melded with 3D modeling to pay respect to the ground crews with the internals exposed. They (we) don't get the recognition that the pilots normally do. After more tweaks to the guns, the next project is the engine... Ā Butzzell, Klaiber and Britchot 3 Quote

Dioramas of work on the planes was my goal.Ā Available time allotted has put that on hold, again. It is also why the photograph I chose for my '09/'10 deployment flag display is a plane with all the ground support equipment installed at 3am, instead of one in flight.Ā Quote

AngryGoat Posted January 31, 2020 Report Posted January 31, 2020 First flight: took off lone wolf looking for the squadron... when I noticed our balloon being attacked. both observers parachuted out and I gave pursuit to the SE5A. He noticed me coming in and turned for a head on attack. A bullet grazed me and I was stunned for a second. when I came to my senses I noticed him slightly under trying to get his sights on me. I kicked the rudder and went on the offence. I drilled enough bullets into his machine where it's powerplant finally gave out. Saving my ammo, I leave him to glide to the ground. with my impaired vision I did not notice the danger lurking above! another SE5A circling above watching everything play out. He rolled his wing over and began to dive on me with vengeance. By luck I noticed our flak had not stopped. at the last second I glanced up to see theĀ fighter with his fangs out. instinctively I pulled the triplane into a sharp climbing turn to throw off his attack. the SE5A pulled up to correct his path and the G force RIPPED the top wing right off! causing him to become a spiraling dart. Now low on ammo and still weary about another attacker... I head for base. Gave the boys a thumbs up to let them know i'm a little banged up but alright... and to line up a round of shotsĀ Klaiber, -Hawkeye- and Britchot 3 Quote

I headed towards the front. there they were. circling over cappy. I noticed tracers a little north of the field. I went to investigate knowing friends were close. there was a dogfight down low and that's when I noticed the 2 seater. I jumped down on him and we began tumbling and turning to shred each other apart with bullets. that's when the calvary arrived. Klai and Brit swirling down from above the Bristol was doomed. Like a pack of Hyenas we take turns tearing chunks out of him. eventually we were done playing and Britchot drove the last nail into the flying coffin. beware the pack of DreideckersĀ -Hawkeye-, Heinrich, Klaiber and 1 other 3 1 Quote
