TedsOnMeds Posted August 24, 2020 Report Share Posted August 24, 2020 (edited) Both with the flight simulator and the racing simulator (JG1RT) - the main advantage is that hundreds of hours of rebuild work never result in a car packing up mid-event or an Aircraft losing power or having a major systems failure mid-flight. I think I'll stick to the squadron flyouts going forward since the real machines are rejecting my guiding touch so firmly! Edit: Also the water temp gauge only starts at 140F - 60C. So I can't call 4-0 Charlie when warming up the race car - it disappoints me greatly. Edited August 24, 2020 by TedOnMeds 4-0 Charlie. The only call you need. I'm sorry bud, gonna drink one to your car's health tonight. What kind of engine is that? If it's a Mazda BP then you have plenty of options. Perhaps a high compression build using a 1.8 litre block and a 1.6 head would work (is the cylinder spacing the same though?). Skim the head a little bit, use a thinner head gasket, add some mild cams... Unless of course your racing class demands the use of production components. It's a 1993 Escort GT w/ the 1.8 that has mechanical injection. It's back from when Ford still majority owned Mazda and they kept swapping the 1.8 between each other. I'm not ***100%*** sure it's identical to a BP but it might be close enough. People love to tune these things over here. Improved Touring-A is the regional (local area) only class I'm running it in - which means the car is extremely limited on performance adding mods. I'm not as good at building them as I am at driving them so I'm one of the few people I know who doesn't cheat - BUT - the rulebook doesn't outlaw performance chips or port and polishing heads, intakes, rod bearings etc etc. So I might look into trying to squeeze a little more out of the car with some attention and love if I can still keep the cost down doing so without sacrificing reliability! As for calling 4-0 Charlie lol the Mercedes I had before I got the Challenger had a water temp gauge in it that read 40c, and yes I definitely did "call 4-0- charlie" in my head to myself when it came up to temp.
