Yogi
Meh... It will buff out... I took a cpl hits testing a mission. With part of the wing blown off but it was controllable albeit with allot of aileron input so I decided to try to RTB & land it. As I neared the base & got below 600kph it was clear I had no shot at landing it so I pointed its nose at a clear patch of ground & punched out. A remarkable thing happened. It kept flying in a circle around me. Is that damned thing ever going to come down? I watched it circle me for 10min with no sign of it ever coming down. Getting bored I logged off but it was still slowly climbing when I did. Klaiber, Britchot, Greif and 5 others 3

Vogel
I do love a good screenshot thread, these are mixed bag of some of my favourites in my folder. Hope you like them . Loved the colour of the clouds against the aircraft in this one, the lighting really makes it. Keeping up relations from the RIO seat, where'd I put that Polaroid?! Hawkeye against the ocean. I own all the DCS content more to support the developers than anything else. I may not like/want what they releasing now but I want them to work on releasing more which I may like. In any case, I am a big WWII fan but I have rarely flown them because I've always had IL2 to fly. Now with my IL2 install borked I have no choice but to get my WWII fix with DCS. You know, I always thought IL2 was better, not because of the FM or modeling but because of the overall atmosphere. They do a great job pf putting you there if you know what I mean. Well all of that has changed now. I cant begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed flying your mission over the last few days! All the little details you have put in do a great job of "putting you there". In fact, I have logged more WW2 DCS hours in the last 4 days than all my flight time previously here to date. For example, the other day I decided to attack Dover in my Anton (bad idea, dont attempt alone) & was delighted with all the flak & tracers. It was so cool & captivating I didnt even think to take a screenshot and thats saying something! Btw: I designed the B-17 mission to be repeatable. If you trigger them, you'll eventually have an option to spawn a second wave. And then a third wave. There is no fourth wave, but I could always add it. Currently fighters only spawn once. But again, I can change it. Has the Chain Home and Freya radars been working correctly? Heard a *BANG* immediately after pickle and the plane rolled 3 times before I got it level and pulled out of the dive. Had to keep it above 450kmh to keep it stable. Was able to land at home base coming across the threshold at that speed. Pucker factor 125/100 going into final with flaps up, full rudder and aileron just trying to stay level. Blew the right main gear on touchdown and left the runway but came to a stop rubber side down. Kicking myself in the pants for not recording it. I've been doing most of my A2A flying for the German side but have only done A2G for the allies so havnt spawned anything to know if Chain Home is working. I will give it a go though. Yogi
I am no Luftwaffe markings expert but near as I can tell the markings are correct for a Kurst of II/JG-1. What did I miss? Comment, criticisms? Lipfert, Erhardt and Klaiber
Klaiber
Looks good so far, @Yogi! II./JG 1 never flew the Bf 109 after Spring / Summer of 1942. At that point, they had switched to the Fw 190A. So there is no record of what a late war II./JG 1 Bf 109 would look like. However, III./JG 1 flew the Bf 109Gs. And, basically, what you're mimicking here is Bf 109G markings. Historical Kurfursts were really sparsely marked, often dropping unit emblems, gruppe markings and personal markings. Within this post on the IL-2 boards, you can see a III./JG 1 Bf 109G-6/AS: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/56415-main-differences-bf-109-g6-vs-late-version/page/4/?tab=comments#comment-861998 Regarding your skin, the first thing I notice as non-historical is the yellow tatzelwurm on the nose. II./JG 1 stopped using this marking on 12 November 1943. After that date, all gruppen attached to JG 1 used the black "red winged one" emblem, sometimes known as the Oesau shield. The internet is full of red versions of this emblem, but the circle was black and only the 1 was red. The second thing I notice is that the aircraft doesn't have a horizontal bar after the balkenkreuz (girder cross) on the fuselage. This horizontal bar shows that the aircraft is attached to II./JG 1 (the second gruppe). When combined with the yellow color of the tactical markings (the number and the horizontal bar), the horizontal bar shows that the aircraft is attached to 6./JG 1 (the 6th staffel). Everything else is generally correct for a late-War Bf 109G. The red Defense of the Reich band on the tail (Reichsluftverteidigung) is period appropriate (mid-1944 to 1945). Some historical Bf 109Ks dropped the fuselage band completely, in favor of colored bands directly behind the propeller boss. But that's not important to your skin. The camo is also correct for a late-War Bf 109G (RLM 74, RLM 75, RLM 76). Most historical Bf 109Ks were painted in RLM 81, RLM 83 and RLM 76, but again, that's not important to your skin. http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/luftcambg_8.htm I would remove the harkenkreuz (swastika), though. Or obscure it. And the yellow recognition coloring, under the cowling, is appropriate. But could be removed. Late-War Bf 109Gs sometimes had it, and sometimes they didn't. As the war drags on, they start removing it in-field more and more. Not sure if this helps or is super confusing! Yogi
This is going down as one of my more memorable recoveries. Got in a tussle with a cpl 29's. Wasnt a pretty fight but I flew away from it & they didnt. Anyway, radios out, avionics out & Jester dead. I found the carrier with the standby compass, dead reckoning & more than a little luck only to discover my hydraulics are also out & wing sweep is jammed. Gear nor hook will come down without the hydraulics. I was planning on punching out but thought I might try a high speed landing if I can get my gear & hook down. Sure enough a blast from the O2 bottle popped them free. Jettisoned everything I had left to get as light as possible. Snagged the 2 wire with a touchdown speed around 170kts. Brakes were apparently locked too. I came to a stop nose up. A bit long in the groove & my profile wasnt exactly pretty but I got her home in mostly one piece.
