Jaus
A VR setup page on the IL2 forum recommended turning on HDR, but only after disabling 'Bloom' in the startup.cfg. What is 'bloom'?

What is 'bloom'? Bloom is a graphic setting that refers to the effect of natural light, swaying/moving trees, plants, flowers, and etc. It makes the world seem more "alive", as players call it. High Quality Bloom is just Bloom tweaked to a level that seems more realistic. S!
Jaus
Thanks. Sounds like what we would refer to in photography as 'specular highlights'. Lipfert
Lipfert
Jaus, Last night I mentioned testing and incorrectly identified Windows Mixed Reality OpenXR Runtime. This is the utility that does smoothing in Windows Mixed Reality instead of Steam VR. If you'd like to walk through the G2 settings and do some testing I'm good anytime. S! Jaus
So you turn off motion smoothing in SteamVR and use it in OpenXR Runtime? Does it make a noticeable difference? I'd like to go through G2 settings. I have time tonight if you're available. Currently I have an unexpected problem in that I turned my graphic setting in IL2 way up just to see how good I could get it to look regardless of framerate. It looked better but my fr dropped into the 20s. The frustrating part is that, after pulling my graphic settings back to their starting point, I am only getting framerates in the upper 30s/low 40s where I was in the 60s before the graphics-upping experiment. I'm experimenting right now with il2, watch these videos. https://www.youtube.com/user/davidwa73/videos S!
Jaus
Actually I've watched all three of those videos. I I've implemented most of the NVIDIA settings and the registry entry for the virtual screens, But I'm not clear at all about the interplay between WMR, OpenXR, OpenXR Developer tools, WMR for SteamVR , and SteamVR. I'll probably be on Teamspeak this evening 9pm +/- Eastern. Stop by if you're available.
Lipfert
Jaus, The important part is not to double up the smoothing, make sure you are using one method. I'm testing between Microsoft and Steam smoothing at the moment. S!
Jaus
So of the five softwares: WMR, OpenXR, OpenXR Developer tools, WMR for SteamVR , and SteamVR. Do you run all five? Il2 seems to want to always want to load SteamVR so I'm guessing the others have to work with that.

Right now I'm using Motion Smoothing with the Per Game Settings in SteamVR. I run fpsVR in game to see how the video card is performing for a specific game. S! Jaus
I thought you were saying yesterday that you used OpenXR in some way? Do you run WMR or WMR for SteamVR?

OpenXR Developer Tools for when I'm trying the other Motion Smoothing. S!
