Klaiber
FIF 2022 has 15 objectives per team, per mission night. The purpose of these objectives is to add some variety to the tournament and new challenges for experienced pilots. It will be difficult for the teams to accomplish all 15 objectives within one session. Part of a team's strategy will be prioritizing what objectives should be attempted within the two-hour mission window available. For further clarification on how to complete specific objectives listed below, please post within the FIF Rules Questions forum: https://forum.jg1.org/forum/45-fif-rules-questions/ Or, contact @Butzzell, @Klaiber, @Vonrd, or @Heinrich. . . . Klaiber
HQ Reconnaissance: Because we do not have the Rise of Flight recon script within IL-2: Flying Circus, FIF uses a complex set of triggers to enable recon missions. Make sure the aircraft you select matches the mission name. An aircraft designated for HQ reconnaissance is labeled: HQ Recon. Within each combat area, there are at least three enemy headquarters (HQs). These are hidden on the map and must be located. Only one HQ is active, and this is chosen randomly by the server. Recon aircraft will have to locate and identify the active HQ to complete the photo recon objectives. The only way to find the active enemy HQ is to fly directly over each potential target. Potential enemy HQs are easy to spot. They are "U" shaped chateaus with nearby servant buildings. The active target will have four vehicles present, one being a flak gun. When the recon aircraft overflies the active enemy HQ, a subtitle tells the pilot to make a second pass. Because the target area around the enemy HQ has a radius of 2000m, the recon pilot must wait 10 seconds before turning back to make a second pass. The recon aircraft's altitude must be between 2000m and 4000m. Recon aircraft must land at a friendly base for the photographs to be developed. This friendly base does not have to be active. A successful landing will result in a confirmation subtitle. Be careful not to break the glass negatives during landing. Destroy HQ vehicles [HQ Recon Secondary Objective] After landing the aircraft, the HQ complex will become an active target with an icon on the in-game map. It can now be attacked and destroyed by any aircraft type capable of knocking out the compound. To attack and destroy the HQ complex, aircraft need to knock out the four protecting vehicles. You do not need to bomb the building.
Klaiber
Espionage (Espion): Within this objective, your team sends an aircraft on a secret mission to rendezvous with a known spy located within the enemy backfield. An aircraft designated for the Espionage mission is labeled: Spy. You accomplish this objective by flying to the spy. The exact location of the spy is not known. However, they will be somewhere in an area designated within the enemy backfield. When the spy aircraft is near the spy, the spy will fire a red smoke grenade to get the aircraft's attention. You will also receive an in-game message: You spot red smoke! Be advised that your presence near the spy could alert local air defenses. Be careful. After spotting the flare, you must land within 3 km of the spy. Once landed and stationary, you will receive another message: Spy picked up! After you have the spy onboard, you must wait on the ground to get a secondary target location from the spy. It will be an in-game message. An example: Spy says, look in sector 0603.6! This in-game message will repeat every 5 minutes. The spy aircraft must now take off and head to the secondary target location to verify the target. As the spy aircraft enters the secondary target location, a new in-game message will appear. An example: Vehicles at sector 0603.6! A map icon at that new location will appear on the in-game map. The spy aircraft must now land at a friendly base to complete the mission. This base does not have to be active. Espionage secondary target: Once the spy aircraft has successfully landed, enemy units will spawn at the secondary target location. Since the spy aircraft cannot carry bombs, other aircraft must return to the secondary target to destroy them. Once you've destroyed the secondary target, the map icon will disappear. Klaiber
Rescue Prisoner: The rescue objective is a combination "bomb and land" scenario. At the mission start, a subtitle will display the location of the enemy's prison. This mission will be an icon target that is usually an old castle or a WW1-era fortification. Outside the castle will be a tent camp for prison guards and soldiers. Within this tent camp is a AAA truck. You must destroy the AAA truck, and this can be completed with any aircraft. Destroying the AAA truck creates a diversion, allowing one of the more crafty prisoners held within the castle to escape, disguise himself as an enemy medic, and steal an ambulance. The prisoner (disguised as a medic) will then drive the ambulance to a local airfield. When no one is watching, he will fire two flares into the air to signal that he is ready to be picked up. While any aircraft can bomb the AAA truck, only a particular Rescue aircraft can perform the prisoner pickup. Landing at the enemy airfield to pick up the prisoner will not be seen as a capture by the game. After you pick up the prisoner, he will tell you about a target he has heard about while in captivity. When you have this information, you will start a secondary objective for your team. The rescue aircraft must now fly out to that general area and find the tanks. The rescue plane must now land at one of the active friendly airfields. He does not have to land at his base of origin. The aircraft cannot crash. The prisoner is very frail, and breaking the plane on landing will accidentally kill him. If the aircraft is damaged enough, the objective will fail. Reserve Unit [Prisoner Rescue Secondary Objective]: Once the rescue aircraft lands at the friendly base, a Destroy Reserve Unit secondary objective will start. It takes about 20 seconds after landing to get the success message.
Klaiber
Strategic reconnaissance (Strategic Recon): The reconnaissance of a strategic target is very similar to the recon of an enemy HQ. However, unlike the enemy HQ, the strategic target will have an icon placed on the in-game map. The aircraft involved in reconnaissance over this target must be a Strategic Recon aircraft. Strategic targets are pre-selected by High Command. In other words, the target is chosen randomly by the server at the mission launch. The target can be a factory, a bridge, or an aerodrome. It may be an active bomber target but can also be inactive. Regardless, the target will be designated at the beginning of the session. As with other recon missions, to successfully photograph a strategic target, the recon aircraft must fly over it between 2000m and 4000m. It requires a single pass from the strategic recon aircraft. The strategic recon aircraft must land at a friendly base for the photographs to be developed. This base does not have to be active. Be careful not to break the glass negatives during landing. Off-Road Convoy [Strategic Recon Secondary Objective] The completion of this objective will trigger the Destroy Off-Road Convoy secondary objective. The location of that new target will be announced and have an icon placed on the map.
Klaiber
Destroy factory: When asked to attack a factory, you must make sure to bomb the large central building within the complex. To verify the factory complex as a legitimate target, note the overall triangular arrangement of the buildings.
Klaiber
Destroy bridge: When asked to attack a bridge, you may find it spanning a river, road or railroad line. It will be protected by machine guns and/or flak. Unlike past campaigns, the bridge itself is the actual target. It cannot be destroyed through machine gun fire and must be bombed. Klaiber
Destroy aerodrome: When asked to attack an aerodrome, you must destroy the small set of oil drums near the field. Destroying the oil drums will deny the enemy of the aerodrome's use. Be careful to not confuse the oil drums with the small buildings nearby. The target aerodrome is protected by machine guns and/or flak. It is important to note that the aerodrome target will never be an active airfield. Active airfields are never a target, and are protected by extremely heavy anti-air defenses.
Klaiber
Destroying moving or stationary targets: When asked to destroy a moving or stationary target, you may be hunting supply trains, supply columns or supply barges. These targets may be able to be destroyed by strafing, but bombing is far more effective. Moving targets will not appear on the in-game map. They are targets of opportunity and must be hunted for. Stationary targets will appear as icons on the in-game map. Typically, there will be three targets of both types within enemy territory. Regarding their locations at mission start: Moving trains will be found on the rail systems within enemy territory. Moving or stationary columns will be found either on or off the road systems within enemy territory. Moving or stationary barges (ships) will be found on the riverine system within enemy territory. Moving targets will never stop in towns, stations or docks. All moving and stationary targets are protected by machine guns and/or flak. They are very dangerous. . . . Klaiber
Artillery spotting: Artillery correction requires creating a race track pattern from your friendly artillery to the intended enemy target. An aircraft capable of conducting “artillery spotting” is labeled Arty. Arty aircraft must be prepared to overfly friendly artillery and the enemy target multiple times. A subtitle will always announce the target destructions. The arty aircraft must pass over the friendly gun position to commence the artillery spotting objective. The arty aircraft must be within 500m horizontal and between 750m and 1200m in altitude. When you do this, you will receive an in-game message: Guns start; first shot! The two-seater aircraft then proceeds to the target as ordered and passes within 1500m to observe the target. While spotting, the field guns will fire at the target for approximately two minutes. You will then see an in-game message: Shells need to be grouped tighter. Return to guns to report. When told to return, the arty aircraft must fly back to the friendly field guns and start the race track pattern again. When the arty aircraft overflies the gun positions again, they’ll receive an in-game message: Guns start; second shot! Repeat the pattern. Head back to the target as ordered. As you overfly the target, you will see another in-game message: Shells are hitting buildings. Return to guns to report. The arty aircraft must now fly back to the friendly guns for the third time. As they overfly, they’ll receive a third message: Guns start; third shot! Return to the artillery target for a final pass. As you pass over the artillery target, you’ll receive confirmation of its destruction through an in-game message: Shells are on target - artillery complete. Note: It will always take three round trips to complete this process. Additionally, the pattern may be stopped and restarted at any time. The damage to the target is cumulative. There are no resets. A second aircraft will not start from the beginning. They pick up where the last plane left off. Front Line Unit [Artillery Spotting Secondary Objective]: After the artillery target is destroyed, the arty aircraft will receive an in-game message from its observer. An example: Otto says – Arty secondary active. Truck depot. 0505.1. This target will be four vehicles and a machine gun. Only the four vehicles need to be destroyed. Any plane can destroy the Front Line Unit.
Klaiber
Wreath drop: The wreath drop has two parts. The enemy ace: First, an enemy ace will randomly spawn over your friendly territory. Their presence is triggered when an aircraft passes close to its hidden location. When the ace appears, an in-game map icon will appear, letting you know where they are. Supremely confident and deadly in the air, the enemy ace will be free-hunting without wingmen. The enemy ace will stay within this area, hoping someone will challenge them. You can engage them at any time with any aircraft you choose. Overconfident, they'll wait. Shoot down the enemy ace! Honor demands it. The Hospital: Once the enemy ace is dead, you'll want to honor their bravery by dropping a wreath in enemy territory. The question is, where to drop it? An enemy two-seater base? No, too much flak. An enemy hospital? Yes! There is at least one hospital deep within enemy territory. It will only appear as an icon on the in-game map when the enemy ace has been killed. The Wreath aircraft must overfly the enemy hospital below 300 meters. While not as dangerous as an enemy airbase, enemy hospitals are protected with anti-aircraft defenses. The hospital building is easy to spot, with a tall bell tower and Gothic revival architecture. The hospital will always be close to a village. Klaiber
Capture the General: Within this objective, your team sends a Capture aircraft on a secret mission to rendezvous with a known sympathizer on the enemy's general staff. This sympathizer plans to capture the enemy's commanding general. To accomplish this objective, the "capture aircraft" must fly to the sympathizer. The exact location of this enemy sympathizer is not known. However, they will be somewhere in an area designated within the enemy's backfield. When located, an in-game icon will be shown on the map, denoting their found location. When the "capture aircraft" overflies that target area, the sympathizer will strike. He'll tie up the enemy general, make his way to the nearest road, and fire off a red smoke grenade to get your attention. You will also receive an in-game message: You spot red smoke! Be advised that your presence near the general could alert local air defenses. Be careful. After spotting the red smoke, you must land within 3 km of the general. Once landed and stationary, you will receive another message: General is in shock! After you have the general onboard, you must wait on the ground to get a secondary target location from him. It will be an in-game message. An example: Mumbles about sector 0809! This in-game message will repeat every 5 minutes. The "capture aircraft" must now take off and head to the secondary target location to verify the target. As the "capture aircraft" enters the secondary target location, a new in-game message will appear. An example: You spot tanks at a factory, 0809.6! A map icon at that new location will appear on the in-game map. The "capture aircraft" must now land at a friendly base to complete the mission. This base does not have to be active. Tanks at Factory [Capture the General Secondary Objective] Once the "capture aircraft" has successfully landed, enemy units will spawn at the secondary target location. Since the "capture aircraft" cannot carry bombs, other aircraft must return to the secondary target to destroy them. Once you've destroyed the secondary target, the map icon will disappear. Klaiber
Trench Map: To accomplish the trench mapping objective, fly a Trench Recon aircraft along the front between the enemy line icon that defines the start and endpoint of the mission. The aircraft must be above 2000m and below 4000m. Note that the "front lines" could be a real trench network, a predesignated area of contention on the map, or even a riverine system. Within IL-2: Flying Circus, this objective functions through three complex triggers. The objective must be done from one end to the other, though you can start at either end. If successful, a trench map discovers enemy tanks crossing the lines. The trench recon aircraft must then return to any friendly base. It does not have to be active. A Trench Attack secondary objective spawns upon landing. Trench Attack Stopped [Trench Map Secondary Objective] Expect a group of enemy vehicles to spawn once the Trench Recon lands. Once the units are spawned, any aircraft can attack the Trench Attack point. You must destroy all four enemy tanks before they reach the city. If they get the city, your team receives no point. If you stop the tanks but do not destroy them, your team receives no point. If the enemy can protect the tanks so that at least one reaches the city, they block your team from getting the point. A red arrow appears on the map for both teams to show the location of the attack.
