I've been having a bit of trouble with a USAAF New Guinea campaign. It seems that no matter what rank I select for the player (from Flight Officer to Colonel), I'm never allowed to lead a flight once the mission loads. The briefing screen will sometimes designate me a flight leader if I select a high enough rank, but, upon loading the mission, I'm in a different position, usually aircraft #14, it seems. If I select Colonel, I'm given aircraft #2 and fly as wingman to the squadron leader (a Major!). I tried giving myself more mission experience, but that didn't seem to help. I'm sure I'm making some boneheaded mistake. Does anyone have any solutions? Thanks.
