How about this processor?

Hi jim,

When chosing a cpu I start by referencing this webpage: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ it lists the scores achieved by each CPU and allows you to compare them in a large group. You can then pick out 2-3 cpu's within your budget for the build and do further research. It also depends on the software, some of these sims are still CPU bound and some utilize the video card more effectively than others. So this adds another wrinkle, research and patience are your friend.

Good luck!

LOL you don't know me very well.

The benchmark site is informative, but it's been my experiance that when one throws a sim (in this case double that variable) into the mix the whole equation is thrown into a cocked hat. That's why I ask the question sims (ROF & COD) relative.

But patience is forced upon me by my having to save my monthly allowances allotted me by the family comptroller. I fear for my safety to ask for an advance. :)

I understand completely, I have come to the point where I am just tired of 'throwing' money at these sims and chasing the frame rate counter.

You can go out and spend $1000 on a CPU and still have bad results with some of these sims.

Well, something must be said for research.

Since last I typed I read the Q @ A on the ROF site and while ROF ran on my dual core 1856 mgz under XP someone with something other than a quad core running window's 7 can't run ROF and the developers said it was outside their perview to correct his problem since something in windows 7 doesn't allow a solution to his problem with his processor. To put it succinctly, ROF needs a Quad core when running Windows 7. So it's narrowed the search to quadness of core.

And since COD seems to be having teething problems and there's talk of the danger of a toothless baby, I suppose I will set my sights on getting ROF to run seamlessly and let the chips fall where they might for COD.
