Joining Ghost Skies

~S!~ Gents,

I am having an issue joining Ghost Skies ever since we started experimenting for the Pacific campaign. I have patched myself up properly (I believe). When I join, I load to 90% Loading Humans at which point the game does not continue to load the last 10%. The game also appears stuck because I cannot move the cursor and I cannot chose to exit the game. I need to do a Control Alt Delete to get back to Windows.

I know that Grangest and Wurger both had similar problems and they both ran Windows 7 as am I. However, since the server got flooded, I am unable to find those threads to see what they ended up doing to solve their problems.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Well Lang I just found out my install was screwed up last night, figures I was going to practice too. I basically did a fresh install of 1946

install the 4.10.1 mega patch( includes 4.08m-4.10.1m)

and finally UP3.0 and 3.0RC4.

I had a problem where I missed a patch and it would not load with the UP mod packs but it does now. You need to also make sure you did not have any mods enabled when you patched up. Will it load up with plain old 4.10?

My problem with Win 7 was that I did not let the game install direct X, I just skipped it. If you can get 1946 patched with the Mega patch, and it starts fine, or will start now without mods on, then your UP install is hosed somewhere.

Grangest

~S!~ Gents,

First of all thank you for the feedback Grangest and Klaiber. Turns out that the problem was maximum RAM allocation which I had at 1024MB. Spies told me to drop it to 512MB and try again. And just like that, I was in the middle of the Pacific. Having not flown for at least 6 months and trying it out on a new machine, I quickly discovered that I had forgotten to map a bunch of important commands such as increase decrease fuel mixture, lower hook, etc. After several frustrating failed attemts to take off I found out that mapping the two wheel brakes to the pedals was a bad idea as it kept reading an input when there was none and kept slowing me down right at the edge of the carrier. Consequently I landed in the water more times I care to remember. Finally, fate spared me and gave me an air start. Turned out that DF was the only part I was successful at - shot down a Hellcat, two P-39's, and two torpedo bombers (the name eludes me - Dauntless?). Thanks to Moxi, who came to the rescue while I was fooling around with a fighter and shot off a P-39 off my tail at one point. Needless to say, I did not even attempt a carrier landing.

All in all, it was a lot of fun and I believe that I am now fully operational.

See you soon!
