Or, what will they think of next? http://www.simw.com/jdome.html

Scheduled for delivery on thur., just as the next storm is passing through, LoL.

As soon as it gets here and I piece it together I will be flying the friendly skies once again. Life without stutters, don't know if I'll be able to handle it.

Thanks gents, I want to push the res. to the limits, been satisfied with "almost there" for too many years, I'd like to see one sim in all it's glory just once before I die. Pairing the AMD with an expensive vid. card/mobo might not save me any money in the long run. I'm looking to save in the video department by recycling my ATI 1 gig 5000 series card. That, and I'm looking at using a tiger direct's barebones system which means I get what I get as far as the mobo is concerned. Good info, maybe I'll save the extra for the I-7 and be safe. The way things are going by the time I'm ready they should be dirt cheap.

Tried to edit the above but I find it hard to place the cursor in the subject body box. So to edit: this discussion is based solely on the cost being an issue for me when it comes to purchase. So whichever AMD processor you think will do the game (and ROF, which seems to require more resources than COD) justice, lay it on me. Thanks.
-
If you were to run COD on an AMD processor which would it be. I know what the box says, but really, what would you run COD on (AMD) to enable all it's eye candy. The vid card being an ATI 5000 series card (would have to look at it to remember where in the series it falls). I'm thinking about buying a bare bones kit from Tiger Direct and cannabilizing my Dell of it's sound and video and possibly power unit. So memory type is also open for debate, thanks.

From what I hear I question if they should be at all concerned with new A/C, maybe fixing the basic game would be time better spent. JMHO.

Yesah, the Germans were masters at proproganda. The units being given innocous names to hide the true intent of the German military was also translated in other ways. As with the aircraft themselves, like the JU 51 (?) tri-motor transport and flying pencil (DO-117?) being advertised as commercial airlines when first developed. With the hidden ability to easily be transformed to bombers when the time came. And of course the rage of the day, air racing, helped to develop some fine technology that could easily be used in the war effort. Even the ground troops were involved in this clandestine scam. To promote itself to be stronger than it was to the German people I heard they would parade in a circle by going around the city block. The audience would see some units 2 or 3 times in one parade. I find it facinating that Hitler's intent wasn't a protracted war but a quick decisive victory over his enemies. And with that mindset started to de-militerize even before the war was over. Good thing for the allies. Thanks for the well wishes on the RC A/C. If I get them done I'll be sure to post some pics. I almost bought the retracting tail wheel for the Zero, but thought the $130.00 would be better spent on a new virtual aircraft, ie computer. Too many hobbies not enough dinero.

He[h][/h]re's a link to a pic. of the another side of this modeling hobby. Unfortunately the economy of life is such that I'm not sure if I'll get to my favorite subject, the AM6 Zero on the lower shelf. This model screams for a radial engine, of course. The top fuse is the beginning of an FW 190. (Another candidate for a radial). Wood is cheap, but when you get to the working parts the cost sky rockets. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii116/jimrired/002.jpg

Sounds like the Germans were employing a tactic to keep the allies on their toes. Much like the a/c numbering system the Japanese used, all their manufacturing date codes found on their planes weren't sysquential. They numbered their planes in a way to throw off the allies from knowing how many planes they actually had. This can screw up the intel that is so often used to identify and quatantate the enemy forces. Something that every Marine rifleman knows is needed when writing up a 5 paragraph order. In the which the units faced are named (unit designations), their numbers given in unit size (a reg. bat., so forth) and afew other incidentals related to the enemie's disposition is given. All adding up to, you quessed it, 5 paragraphs of information. It's been more than 30 years since I had to write one up so I'd have to go back to the books to do this subject justice. But I can see the usefulness in keeping the unit organizations within the German military confusing. Not like us, they knew when they faced Patton. Except for D-Day of course.

Thanks Britchot. I thought that JG1 would've been one of the first units reformed after the re-establishment of the Luftwaffe, considering it's history. I have a shop manual of sorts on order for the plane, I'm trying to get some of the color schemes of the engine plumbing and wiring so I can detail the mill. Most of what I have is black and white. I was told the only color they used for wiring was yellow. As someone who has rewired his car (pre-computer days when an engine was just that, just an engine) I can see the headache just one color would be to track down an electrical problem.

a diorama of the Battle of Britian. I need a German unit, or confirmation that JG1 was involved, but I don't think they were. Any unit will do, preferrably one that flew the 109 with the older canopy. Thanks.

4096 MB to Gigs. Is that 4 + Gigs?

Sounds like they're going back to the eastern front. I know that it's IL2, and I don't mind having WW 2 airwar simmed out to the max. But do you suppose they'll give some more to the ETO, and not as an afterthought. And if so then how can they ignore the PTO? You think the problem might be like the one with Douglas A/C manufacturer (IIRC) back in the day of their Pacific Il2? A question of copyright infringments on some obsolete a/c no longer manufactured. Lame a/c company.

We've been following the leader in practise. I and Heidie (sorry if I got that name wrong I'm not use to the Germanic grammar) were engaged at the end of our foray against the dreaded Yankee foe. The problem was we were seperated from the gitgo and so couldn't, as the Beatles put it, come together. Without the come together factor teamwork is non-existant. Sooo... Tweeking the follow the leader aspect of practise would be to have elements follow the leader instead of individuals. With lead member of the element responsible for just one job. The lead (whoever can spot the cons first) keeps his eye on the con and follows him. The wingman tasked with following the lead (as opposed to the con) and maintaining as much of the SA as he can for both he and the man on the attack. So the man in the element 2 position would have 2 jobs and have the harder of the tasks. Of course, if the lead becomes a target of another con #2 man will have to engage and keep his eye on his wing as best he can. This part of the tactic could very well be tweeked as well. Since we really need to stick together, IMHO. So when the problem of seperation occurs maybe a predefined area of rally can be determined. Like 12 o'clock of the grid in which the fight happened, or a big ground object (city, horseshoe lake, etc.). The fight being discontinued until the element can rejoin. All that fuel I used and I never did get on anyone's tail anyway. Might as well do, What we called in the Corps, a tactical retrograde (retreat) and, come together.

Seems to me that flying the Mig against the Saber is like flying a Wildcat against Zeros. Going to take a lot of teamwork to be on top. Thatch weave anyone?

I was there, if you're talking about the Spits and 109 server on Hyper lobby. I went on their TS server for a little bit. And then I was on the server again on Sat. for some more flaming action. I can't get too close to the ground because of my weak PC, but at alt. I'm OK. Let me know if you're going to go on there again and I'll try yo meet up with you.
-
to suggest a coop for practise night? Might help us to keep it together a little better under stress. We might consider a rally point for those of us prone to staying from the pack (like myself). Just a thought.

Finding that IL 2 1946 runs on my laptop with a non-dedicated video card was a pleasant surprise. And now since I have 2 monitors, (my old one from my old desktop PC and the built in of the laptop), I'm interested in finding a software I had a link to once upon a time. The link was to a software that allows for two monitors to work in the sim showing different screens. IE, one monitor can display the cockpit dash while the other can show the great outdoors. BUT, if the hit to performance renders its use prohibitive please say so and never mind the other.

Well, something must be said for research. Since last I typed I read the Q @ A on the ROF site and while ROF ran on my dual core 1856 mgz under XP someone with something other than a quad core running window's 7 can't run ROF and the developers said it was outside their perview to correct his problem since something in windows 7 doesn't allow a solution to his problem with his processor. To put it succinctly, ROF needs a Quad core when running Windows 7. So it's narrowed the search to quadness of core. And since COD seems to be having teething problems and there's talk of the danger of a toothless baby, I suppose I will set my sights on getting ROF to run seamlessly and let the chips fall where they might for COD.
