research and patience are your friend LOL you don't know me very well. The benchmark site is informative, but it's been my experiance that when one throws a sim (in this case double that variable) into the mix the whole equation is thrown into a cocked hat. That's why I ask the question sims (ROF & COD) relative. But patience is forced upon me by my having to save my monthly allowances allotted me by the family comptroller. I fear for my safety to ask for an advance.

2nd generation Quad Core I-5 2500 3.30 ghz, with 8 gigs of ram. Will this run both ROF and COD without hiccups? Sorry to ask yet another hardware related question, but I hesitate to commit because of the unknown.

While I'm sitting on the ground awaiting a new rig I've been puttering around with making a skin using Gimp. Being ultra-illiterate when it concerns everything computer, this hasn't been easy. I've looked around but can't find any tutorials on skinning with Gimp, only photoshop. Has anyone here come across a lesson plan for using Gimp with ROF? And regardless what you use to skin with can you tell me if I could make a pattern in MS paint and convert it for use in ROF via whatever paint program you're usin? Thanks.

Thanks guys, that's good news.

I'm shopping to buy one of the PC's in a box from Tiger Direct, actually they call it the barebones kit. I need to know which part of the computer contains the plug for the cable wire. Is it a card like a video or sound card or something else? I tried to get an idea of what I should be looking for by looking at my Dell, but it looks like the one on the Dell is an intrigul part of the MB, otherwise I might've tried to reuse it in the new machine. Thanks.

I started to get back into the hobby with winter coming on, I purchased Airfix's BF 109 and Spitfire in 1/24th scale. Have a diorama scheme in my head dipicting a morning during the Battle of Britian. Here's a couple of pictures of the beginning of a longggg process of detailing the 109's engine. http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii116/jimrired/001.jpg http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii116/jimrired/002.jpg The wiring is kind of nuts, I found the original shop manual on the BF but it's written in German and my schoolboy German is just a foggy rememberance of gutteral sounds. In 20 years I was surprised to see how much the supplies for this hobby has soared.

In the need for speed which is the higher provider of such? The number of cores in a processor or the Ghz? For instance, a comparison; MSI P67A-C43 B3 Intel P67 Motherboard Bundle MSI P67A-C43 B3 Intel P67 Motherboard and Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz Quad-Core Unlocked CPU and Patriot Viper II 4096MB PC12800 DDR3 Dual Channel and Seagate Barracuda 1TB Low Power Hard Driv Bundle or AMD Phenom II 1055T Six Core Processor - Qty: 1 Manufacturer: AMD CPU Type: Desktop Processor Interface: Socket AM3 Processor Class: Phenom II Processor Speed: 1055T / 2.80GHz Cores: Six L2 Cache: 3MB L3 Cache: 6MB Bus Speed: 2000MHz (4000 MT/s) Fan: Included Wattage: 125W Unlocked Multiplier: No Instruction Set: The intel processor has only 2 cores as opposed to the AMD's 6, but the intel has 3.30 GHz of speed while the AMD has only 2.80 GHz. And the intel is overclock capable. One good thing about having to save my allowance for this next machine is that by the time I'm able to lay down the cash the higher end hardware will be down to a reachable price.

I understand a new patch came out? Or is it just rumor. Do you think this sim will have the longevity of IL2? BTW, is anyone else having problems with posting in this forum?

Is it better to have a wireless modem or to be hardwired into the net for COD/ROF?

Does it run in the background both online and off? If not can I disable it?

I'm still in the process of saving my pennies for the replacement PC.

Where did you get your CH products? Did you have to order them online or is there a retailer in your area?
-
I downloaded the plans, it looks like it might be done for $300.00. I wonder what would happen if you did a loop? There's a comercial model on the market for $2800.00, there's a video of it somewhere on youtube.

Thanks Klaiber, are you able to run everything on high?
-
are you running COD on? I thought I'd ask one who seems to be running the sim without a problem. I'm trying to determine which processor would be best suited for COD, Intel or Amd. I'm looking at Tiger Direct for one of the bare bones systems they sell. They have an Intel I 5 second gen. for a price I think I can reach in a month or 2. The same for an AMD on a motherboard that allows for upgrade.

I'm hoping to be able to build my own PC for the sole purpose of COD, I'm tired of having the big PC companies lie to me about how easy it is to "upgrade" their products. I figure if I build it for COD, ROF shouldn't have any problems running on it. I just want to be certain that I build according to specs that run COD without the any of the hitches some seem to be having. Plus some added power incase COD follows the same route that IL2 did and has a specs requirement change with a forthcoming patch. Is it possible to overbuild?

Just thought I'd drop by and see how things are. I've been watching the community reviews of COD and have an itch to buy it, even though my PC was fried by lightening a bit ago. I think I should attend FSA (Flight Sim Annom.). Jim formerly Otto Von Odir.
