  1. I would like to fly helicopters with you guys the next time you are inclined to do so. I'm a little confused about how the AP uses the trim system, and I'm even more confused about what the "AI Engineer" does with the Autopilot when you command him to adjust it. My best results flying this helicopter are obtained by not using the autopilot altitude or heading channels at all, nor trimming. I'm conscientiously avoiding actually flying the KA-50 for now, on the theory that it will make me lazy in the flying of normal helicopters. After flying the non-coaxial helicopters, it almost feels like I'm cheating! In the meantime, I continue to study it's avionics and systems. (I should have been a pilot in real life. I love this stuff.)
  2. I don't really get the impression of a "merger" between BoX and CloD, but I think it probably bodes very well for CloD, (which I don't have). In order for there to be a true merger, they would also have to give the code to BoX, with it's proprietary engine, which I'm not thinking is likely.
  3. Yes, definitely. I fooled around with the yaw channel the other day, and see that it is supposed to automatically provide the correct anti-torque once you release the pedals on a particular heading, but I didn't find it too accurate, and also didn't like that it also appeared to actually be trimming the pedals, something that didn't go away when user-pedal force was re-applied, so that inevitably you wind up fighting the autopilot in the yaw axis. Strange system indeed! My general flying of the aircraft appears to be better than I thought it would be at this point, but flying the aircraft and tuning the radios at the same time is sure as heck problematic, so I guess I'm going to have to use the finer points of the autopilot whether I like it or not (no convenient co-pilot "cheat" like in the UH-1 that I'm aware of). I haven't attempted to actually hoist any cargo and the pylon logic of the bomb dropping system is still mysterious, and many other things, so all the knowledge that more experienced pilots can impart to me is definitely welcome.
  4. This is just AWESOME: Britchot, Klaiber, and me were going towards some contacts. I'm following them somewhat drone-like, because I don't know what I'm doing yet. Britchot says he is locked up, so breaks. I'm going head on to the guy, and lock him up on the radar. I don't have the correct pylon selected for radar-guided missiles, and he flashes past me, beneath, a mistake that really pisses me off at myself. I turn hard onto his six, barrel rolling as I pulled high, figured out that I had the wrong pylon selected for Radar guided missiles, fix that, now IR, and am on the guy's six, now with the R-60's. I get a tone, but Klaiber is at my low 11, on the guy ahead, and he has an IR lock too, and calls "in". He nails the SOB. A Mig-29, if I am not mistaken! This kind of stuff is Flight Simulation paradise! Thank goodness I didn't have something like this in high school or college, or I think I would have failed out @Vonrd: I'm Bf-109 capable now
  5. I'm still waiting for the next sale to snatch up the Gazelle, the Mirage, and the F-5. I'm feeling pretty good about the Mig-21 now, at least from a newbie perspective, and have the controls setup pretty much formalized. I still only last about 60 seconds in the Fast Missions against Mig-29's. The last couple days, I immersed myself in the Mi-8, which not too long ago seemed overwhelming, but I seem to be getting a good handle on that one as well. It seems like a flying schoolbus, down to the mirrors, fans, and pneumatic brakes. Way too many different radios though. I'm really benefiting from having a backlit keyboard that allows me to choose individual key lighting, so that I can memorize the controls I've set by grouping and color, rather than having to remember to push Right Ctrl Left Shift Right Alt -R to switch pylons or something like that!
  6. On the contrary: You're explanation of the Nav systems was so comprehensive and clear that I was able to get all my essential nav controls set up to buttons, breeze through the ARC, RSBN, and PRMG tutorials with no trouble at all, and less than 24 hours later, I'm already able to navigate from beacon to beacon, intercept radials, and perform instrument landings. Very productive session indeed!
  7. Hey, big thanks to Klaiber for spending a significant amount of time Friday night introducing me to online play, and giving me a one-on-one training session on the Mig-21, including making the ARC and RSBN systems understandable to me. I have a lot to practice! It's the first time I've ever flown a jet aircraft online, I had lots of fun, and look forward to getting online again.
  8. Ok, guys, thanks for the info. I'll try to join one of your sessions soon. This week, I'm currently trying to come up to speed on the Mig-21 and the UH-1. I have a couple of others, in various stages of setting things up as I learn them, but am concentrating on those two for now. Had one heck of a rush doing the dogfight training mission in the Mig vs the F-4, repeatedly, and then came into FiF Lite to fly the Se5...it felt like my mind was running twice as fast as normal for ROF. I love Flight Simulation!
  9. Hi JG1 guys, I've recently installed DCS on my new computer, and am looking for some information on what JG1's involvement in the world of DCS is. I have some prior offline experience with DCS years back, but it's been a while, and I'm basically starting out again. I asked JG1_Rottermann in ROF chat if JG1 did DCS, and he said they did. As I get acquainted with the various aircraft, at some point, I would like to take it online, and I'm just trying to get some info on what kind of planes you guys fly, who flies, when, where, etc, etc, etc,... Thanks.
  10. Ice Age is out of action for the next 3 weeks. After the FiF test session yesterday, while flying BoS, I had a blue screen, and then could not reboot the machine. I've determined that my processor is fried. No point in getting a replacement chip since it's old anyway, so I'm going to just go ahead and proceed with a completely new computer build. I figure I'll be down (and unable to attend FIF) for about the next 3 weeks.
  11. Those guys look like they could use some time in Armentières
  12. I like it. In fact, I'll go ahead and make a post on my squadron's website to make them aware.
  13. Hi J5_Ice Age Jasta 5 Timezone: Mountain Thanks!
