Crap, I came here to post this. I'm too slow!

I'll add that it's a valid technique on the Blackshark. I don't know how the Mi-8 works, but the autopilot/trimmer system on the Blackshark uses whatever heading you release the trimmer at, to trim yaw and try to keep you at that heading, so if you dont hold the button down (disengaging the system) you'll be fighting against the system while maneuvering.
-
Trev, that's how I fly the Ka-50 too if not using flight director mode: when I want to maneuver, I hold down the trimmer button, then when I'm done, I release it to trim to my new positioning. It's a lot less jarring and a lot less work than constantly tapping the trimmer to keep things stable.

This is interesting news for those who are more single player minded: https://il2sturmovik.com/news/265/scripted-campaign-mode-announcement-and-pre-order-/

That keyboard lighting idea sounds great! I'm in the market for a new keyboard. I'm using the G510s right now. If/when I get a new keyboard I'm going to really miss the little display on this one. With it's clock, it's usually the only way I know how late I'm playing >_<

You should come over to the JG1 one then

I was thinking about this in relation to Rise of Flight. For me at least, I often see it as this (sometimes) graceful ballet of planes twisting and diving through the air, but from even the few G's we pulled during the wing-over, if we were actual pilots in WWI, flying like we do in RoF, we'd be PUNISHING our bodies!

Today I got the opportunity to take an amazing flight in a PT-17 thanks to Mike at www.wingsovergreenvillesc.com Where I live is quite literally right up against the fence of the Greenville Downtown Airport so thanks to some birthday cash I was finally able to be passenger instead of just observer of this flight. It's billed as a sightseeing tour, but I think I was more interested in watching the gauges and how the plane reacted in flight. It was an overcast and cold day today, but this didn't make any difference to me! It was also windy, and it was very interesting to see and feel the plane skidding around against the wind. I mentioned to the pilot (Mike) that I was an avid sim pilot (mentioning JG1 of course!) and at one point in the flight he actually let me take control of the plane, flying it level for a bit, then banking into left and right turns. Feeling the wind buffeting the plane, and the force feedback of the stick filled in a sorely missing bit of digital flight experience. He even pulled a wing-over, and feeling the positive and negative G's, and hearing the engine roar as he fed it more throttle during the climb was an amazing experience. I went to take a final picture of us coming down to land, but alas, my phone had died. Enjoy the pictures! https://imgur.com/gallery/zTqSe

How'd it go last night? I've only been able to get on for about 10 minutes so far and did some free flight. They planes handle much differently than I expected... I think I need to adjust some curves or something with my joystick, it seems overly sensitive. And with my throttle all the way back it's registering 11% throttle, and all the way forward is registering 96% >_<

I was born at Edwards AFB! Of course, my dad got reassigned when I was 3 months old, but still, I have a connection there!

Kind of a niche post, but I found the following page kind of interesting. It shows some pictures of WWII contrails, some of them twisting and turning, indicating the dogfights high above the earth. We're used to seeing contrails today, but this sort of sight would have been brand new to the people of the time! http://contrailscience.com/fightercontrails-over-kent-1941/

We're coming back from my Parent's today. Will get home around 8:30 or so, so I do t think I'll make it tonight. Soon though I hope!

Ok, got 'em. I wanted to get the Fw 190 too, but I just can't stretch the cash that far right now. I'll already be in trouble when the wife sees this!
-
I think I'll take the chance to get BoS and BoM. But only if we can fly it sometime!

Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful to be a part of this fine group of people who fly serious, but not so serious as to have no room for just goofing around. Thanks for all the fun times we've had, and will have still!

You know... that SP campaign could be co-op... just saying... -
Awesome! That's exciting!

Good stuff! (and please don't kill me about the F-18 comment!)

Thanks, I'll give it a try! The only thing I'm worried about coming in straight and low is all the angry green tracers reaching up and trying to touch me.
