  1. Radiator, Clarence! Radiator!
  2. Here's mine: Clarence! How many times do we have to ask you not to buzz the formation like that?! And, no, we're not going to call you "Ghost Rider"!
  3. Cool, indeed! Interesting that the main vortices from the Airbus are coming from inboard, under-wing structures (edges of flaps, looks like, 'though I couldn't enlarge the picture enough to be sure). I've never seen that before. I guess winglets really do work sometimes, huh?
  4. Quality video, Luftritter! Good resolution, not too much distortion at the edges, nice balance between game audio and voice comms. Congrats, guys! S! Wilhelm
  5. I've been hoping that whoever made this joke would comment (one of the two-seater pilots - don't know everyone's voice yet); it was too funny. Who was it?
  6. To whoever said that people watching people play computer games should "Get a life!": you do see the irony in that, right? S! Wilhelm
  7. In stream chat, I mentioned it would be cool if the camera were behind you, showing your controllers and your monitor from your point of view. I later realized that showing the monitor would be redundant
  8. Exactly, and your observation about GPU involvement in "doing the math" of the game is probably the answer I was looking for. Thanks! I stopped following computer tech development over a decade ago, which might as well have been a century, which means that I now know as much about computers as my namesake did. Thanks!
  9. Great Info, Luftritter! No just the g-sync stuff, but all of it. Fritz mentioned G-sync to me a few weeks ago, also. Too bad I didn't research further before I bought my rig (assuming g-sync's been around for a while). Still, I could use the one I bought as a map monitor, as you have done, and get one with the features you suggest as the main display. One thing I don't understand is the desire for fps greater than 60. My knowledge about fps is 20 years old, but my work with video back then (as a R&D tech in biometrics) gave me to understand that, due to "persistence" of the human eye, few people can detect any choppiness in video when fps is above 40. Clearly, this must not be true when it comes to gaming, or there wouldn't be this constant striving in the industry for frame rates above 60. Do you find the increase from 60 to 100 truly beneficial? Thanks and S!
  10. Radio report: "The enemy is turning away, he has apparently spotted the fighters [our SE5's]." This after Maushake and then Luftritter raked the Albatros.
  11. Maybe you all know this already, but a brief search of the forum didn't find a discussion; and I don't know if all the technical information is correct, but it's a nicely done video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78nAd49BeVs Of particular interest is the explanation of how the carburation actually worked, starting at time 8:10. I've seen discussions elsewhere that lead nowhere, but this was a real "Ah-ha!" moment for me. The main throttle inhibits intake air pressure to less than ambient. This is how the high-compression (for the time) engine running on poor-quality (by modern standards) fuel was prevented from being damaged by knock (pre-ignition) and overheating at low altitude.
  12. "What are we transporting that's so valuable, anyway?" Seriously, HotLead? Bier, of course! The Deutsches Heer would grind to a halt without it. I thought that's why you took a Handley Page: payload capacity!
  13. Good report! Re: talking with you on TS the other evening: so funny that it took me a minute to realize that the reason I thought I knew you was because I'd watched all your videos, not from flying with you in JG1 ages ago . Oh no, I'm a fan boy!
  14. Thanks, Klaiber! Much better images of the men on the right.
  15. I was looking for a photo of Reinhard for my profile, and ran across this one on the warnepieces blogspot site: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4-Fcr-2OmQA/TzyWAhuQWWI/AAAAAAAAAvM/_Q89sxk9bqA/s1600/Kurt+Wusthoff+and+PLM+holders+1918.jpg I don’t know the credentials of this guy as a historian, but I enjoyed his site, and I’m pretty sure the men in the photo are correctly identified: Left to right: Kurt Wüsthoff, Wilhelm Reinhard, Manfred von Richthofen, Erich Löwenhardt, and Lothar von Richthofen. You’ll notice that the image of Wüsthoff is okay, but the photo becomes more distorted and skewed as you scan from left to right. All the other copies I’ve seen of this photo are the same. If any of you have skill with photoshop or paintshop and want to fix this, it would be a boon to all who like to keep a gallery of WWI aviation heroes . A few things induced me to post this: The pose: linked arms. Truly, brothers in arms. Their youth: Wüsthoff was only 20 when he earned the Pour le Mérite he is wearing. This American holiday: Veterans’ Day. This sentence at the end of the photo caption on the warnepieces blog: “Their combined victory total was 221.†If you’ve ever flown a light plane with a light wing-loading on a windy day or when there are cumulous clouds in the sky, add the wind of an open cockpit, the cold and lack of oxygen at altitude...you wonder how they ever did it. It’s just incredible. I know you know all this, but really... Right?? I meant to get this posted yesterday, but it’s never a bad time to say “Thank you for your service!â€, and “Salut!†to all brave patriots who have served their country. Wilhelm
  16. Thank you, Herr Danudet, but I'm so rusty, we'd better see if I can survive WW1 first
  17. Maus!! Hello!! Can't wait!
  18. Thanks for the welcome back, everyone! It warms my heart and really gives me a boost! There's so much to do around the house and property in preparation for winter, but now I'm really motivated to get it done and get my rig set up. It's embarrassing to have had this expensive gear sitting around for months, but instead of organizing a space and modifying furniture for it *, I watch RoF videos on youtube LOL. Hotlead: thanks for the excellent TeamSpeak guide, super helpful! Klaiber, I do indeed remember you, and I'm so grateful and impressed with your contributions to the continued thriving of JG1! Fritz, really, really glad you are still with JG1 and doing RoF. Had so much fun with you in RB3D, and your server and your help with the endless tweaking and testing of the flight and damage models was absolutely invaluable. We really couldn't have done it without you. There was no better flying mate in FiF, and no more skillful adversary during practice and fun flights. Gen: thank you, looking forward to flying with you! Wilhelm * If you're curious: I need to build a platform and modify a desk so I can fly and use rudder pedals while sitting in a tall laboratory chair at a "standing" desk, because I need to alternate between standing and sitting pretty often. If you're wondering how that's going to work, I'll post pictures when it's done. Not that hard to arrange; the real challenge will be exhuming the table saw and other tools in the garage :-)
  19. Hallo! First, to those of you who remember me from RB3D days, I sincerely apologize for the way I disappeared without proper goodbyes and an orderly transfer of duties. At the risk of TMI, I owe you an explanation: I got depressed. It seemed like it happened overnight, but in hindsight, it was a long time coming. When my computer crashed, I didn’t even bother trying to fix it. I stopped caring about much of anything. It took months to climb up out of that hole (okay, years, actually LOL). By then, I was too embarrassed to try to salvage my relationships with JG1 friends. That is just cowardly, though; so here I am, saying I’m sorry, and I miss you guys! If any of you feel that you deserve an individual apology, let me know, I will give it to you. Now, if that isn’t all strange enough (for those of you who don’t know me), here’s the really strange part: I don’t have my new rig set up (Digital Storm computer, Warthog HOTAS stick and throttle, MFG pedals), and won’t for a couple of months; and I’ve never flown RoF (current old laptop can’t handle it, or any modern sim). In fact, I haven’t done any simming since RB. But… I still want to find out if I would be considered for membership in JG1 – RoF. I flaked out on you guys and want to know if I can be forgiven for that. I need something to look forward to. I’m now temporarily(?) retired so I can be with my dad full time to take care of him, as he can’t do much for himself anymore, but living in a “facility†would be torture for him (some of you might even remember him, too: JG1_Schmerz). It’s weird not having a regular job, and spending all my time with one old guy (okay, I’m old, too; but he’s r-e-a-l-l-y old :-D). I’m going stir crazy :-P, and no hobby except actual flying (can’t do that right now) has ever been more fun for me than being a member of JG1. So, I hope you’ll consider me for a “provisional†membership in JG1, i.e., provisional in the sense that I need to get all set up and competent enough in RoF to be a reliable wingman before being considered a full member. If any current member objects, I’ll withdraw my application; I don’t want to cause any trouble within JG1. Hope it’s not too much to ask, but, if accepted, I’d like to use my former JG1 nom de guerre, Wilhelm Reinhard, in honor of that JG1 flieger, although I have no ambition to be rittmeister again; didn’t want to be in the first place LOL. As I recall, everyone else who had both the time and willingness to do the administrative work required by the job was already performing important functions for the geschwader. Direct answers to the questions in the application guide: Time zone: Pacific HOTAS: yes TeamSpeak: will try to install after posting this (Microphone: yes) TrackIR: not yet, planning on it; need to experience and understand the native view system first Current sims: none Thanks for your consideration, and Salut! Wilhelm
