UPDATE: PROBLEM SOLVED!! Going back to the original problem indications (error code = driver problem) I began to go to MSI support and download all new, most current drivers and also BIOS. The BIOS had evolved several newer versions than I had installed. After updating to the newest BIOS version, upon rebooting I noticed that it was now showing the BIOS splash screen, and realized that the BIOS settings had reverted to defaults, which was no problem for me, since the only thing I had set differently in the past was to enable "Fast Boot", which among other things, skipped the splash screen. More on this later.... Then I updated all of the motherboard drivers, and also the video driver, and also checked the Samsung Magician software for the SSD's, which did not have any more current versions or NVMe drivers. In the course of doing this, I learned a lot about Intel Rapid Storage drivers, Intel Turbo Boost Max drivers, and Intel Management Engine drivers; what they do, and whether they applied to my rig or not. In any case, it took a while. Still kind of doubting that any of this would change anything, I began to research the MSI forums using the search feature for items related to Windows ver. 1709 to 1803 update issues. As you might guess, there were a million different topics, and none seemed to relate directly to me. But eventually I did skim one with a different updating issue, but mentioned the BIOS setting of "Fast Boot", which does skip the loading of certain drivers during the boot process....hmmm.....driver issues? A bulb began to faintly glow in my brain.....error code 0xc1900101 means driver issues....not necessarily a bad driver, but maybe it just couldn't load one or more? Knowing that the setting was now the standard default boot behavior already, I took the plunge and re-enabled the auto-updates using the "gpedit" tool, and forced it to check for, download and install the 1803 update. Well after the first reboot I could see that it was acting differently than all of the other times it attempted the update; and it went through the entire update procedure successfully. Yeah! So obviously I have an MSI motherboard, but the "Fast Boot" settings are available on other manufacturer's boards too. In my BIOS, it's located in the "Windows feature" section of the BIOS, not in the "Boot" section. There are 3 levels of boot speed: 1) Both disabled (default) < current setting. 2) Fast Boot (enables Windows Fast Boot feature) < this is not explained any further, but apparently skips loading certain drivers during the boot process until later. It is the setting I had been using, and it definitely speeds up the boot. 3) MSI Fast Boot (Fastest possible boot. Does not load USB, PS2 or SATA devices during the boot process) < I never used that setting. So let this be a lesson to all. I never had a problem with any updates using the Fast Boot setting, until the 1803 update. BIOS settings can affect software updates, even if they're not obvious, such as having a device disabled. I have now rejoined the masses of Windows auto-update-checking minions with a fully up-to-date PC. Now I am sure I'll need to repair all of my controls maps in both RoF and IL2 because of changed controller ID's before I am game-ready again. S!

It appears from what Butzzell's article said, the hack took place from Aug 14 through Sept 18. Hopefully we're both safe....

What I got out of it is that when they say "course" or "fine" it's analogous to threads on a screw (also called pitch). Fine meaning low blade angle, more threads-per-inch (in this case less distance per rotation, same thing), higher RPM, at the 12:00 side of the gauge. Probably we're saying the same thing. PS to LL, I think you left out a "t" (furchtbar) in Galland's quote

Very good, I heard one discrepancy between the two videos. The video I posted states that the indicator moves between the 12:30 to 8:30 positions. Brit's video states that it moves between the 12:30 to 4:30 positions. I have a feeling that Brit's video is correct. However those of you who fly these machines all of the time will probably know the correct answer right away.

Not sure any of you have seen this or anything similar before; but I found this video explaining not only the basics of prop pitch and indicators, but also the details of the different types of automatic prop pitch regulation systems used on the 109's and 190's. I thought the video was outstanding.

Certainly no blame is to be assigned here; you can do no wrong I just now installed my first skins so trying to figure out where the files I used stand in the big picture scheme of things.

Yes I see that now, thanks. It also implies all of those planes will be released at once as part of "volume one", yet some people have mentioned that the Camel and Pfalz D.IIIa are going to be released next, which is confusing; are the planes going to be released piece-meal or all at once in groups (volumes)? EDIT: the blog says the Camel and Pfalz are being "developed", in my mind that doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be released ahead of the first volume. EDIT EDIT: it does say that by purchasing the early access for FC, it does give you access to new content as it's developed....makes me wonder what the prices will be like, compared to just buying the completed volume one.

What happens if the person using a skin in the game has a different file name for his skin, even if it's the same file, but just a different name? All of the WWII skins I got from the consolidated skins link on this forum have a single "A" in front of the names. Butzzell's "4K" skin above has two A's ("AA") in front of it. Should I hold off installing skins until changes are finalized? Also, it appears that the FC (Fokker Dr.1) skins don't use the prefix like the WWII skins and instead use pilot names. Why do the WWII skins use call signs as opposed to pilot names, or vice versa? I get that you could have all of the versions of a file name in your folders, but that's going to lead to a lot of unnecessary file duplication, isn't it? What I'm not going to know is whether a file with a different name is any different than a previous version without visually scrutinizing it in-game.

It's amazing how little choice of those that there is, even in RoF (if you disregard the heavies and the seaplanes). Who knows when they will consider the time right to release a pair of 2-seaters. Not sure exactly at what point that happened with RoF. (EDIT: it appears that it took approximately 2 years after the initial release; and actually, they released the twin engined heavies first, before any of the single engined 2-seaters) What I do remember is that the first 2-seater was the DFW C.V, and then later, the Breguet XIV. I wouldn't be surprised if in FC they do the same thing, since they're common, multi-role planes that could act as a place holder for just about anything. I can remember people flying around in these using them as 2-seat fighters and doing quite well. In any case, we can't really have an FC version of FiF until that happens, can we?

Yeah, you can do that: Using Windows File Explorer, browse to the file location shown in the yellow box below. In the "Tracks" folder, you will see one set of file/folder for every RoF track that is saved on the computer. The example below has only ONE track saved, but you will most likely see many. Every track has it's own *.trk file, and along with that a folder that has the same name as the file name. These names are the names that the game shows for the tracks inside the game. By default they're named by mission type and date/time, but you're able to rename them within the game; so find whatever applies. MOST IMPORTANTLY: you must copy BOTH the appropriate *.trk file AND the corresponding folder with the same name. You then paste them into YOUR computer's "Tracks" folder. Once you do that, you'll be able to go into your game and find it in the list of tracks, and then play/edit it. The person who is supplying the track data will have to get it to you in some way, the best thing would be to put them in a *.zip file (archive) and send it to by email if it's not too big, or if it is, upload it to a file hosting site such as Microsoft OneDrive and share it there.

Couple of questions. With respect to the red icons, will some of them still be secondaries that only appear after other objectives are accomplished first, or do they all just show up from the beginning? Whenever they appear, can the enemy side see them? With regard to the spy mission, I like the idea of having an icon; but it doesn't make sense to have it anywhere, since you would not drop/pick up a spy near the front lines. So if the location is random it might be weird. The General Capture mission would make more sense to be random, since the General could be visiting just about anywhere, including "touring the front lines". Outstanding job on all that you've accomplished already!

Thanks for your explanation. Your last paragraph says a lot. It seems you've achieved a symmetry between your TIR movement and in-game gun tracking. Did you find it difficult at all to transition at all from the old IL2 to the new one, with respect to this same aiming ability? Is there anything that you consider key to achieving that?
