Namaste Klaiber,

thank you very much for the IC 1st Cl and the Bavarian Merit Order.

I hope no officers will start to complain that an NCO got the order instead of the Cross. :P

But what is the practice with these awards? I assume you veterans have multiple ICs and other on the wall by now.

Back home I have this little shrine of course but here on the internet?

Heinrich

Hi Wolf,

I hope no officers will start to complain that an NCO got the order instead of the Cross.

Haha, you noticed that. :D

The non-Prussian awards that Manfred von Richthofen received are what we use for Merit.  So, there is no Bavarian Military Merit Cross (because he never got it), even though that's what an NCO would receive.

I've been seriously thinking of expanding the awards and decorations though.  This way, people have more of a chance to earn them.

But what is the practice with these awards? I assume you veterans have multiple ICs and other on the wall by now.

There is no set reason why someone gets a Merit award - usually it's for bravery or going above and beyond the call.  But I do give them sparingly.  So very few people have them.

For normal Merit, we have a German Army Report, which can be given multiple times.  But to get a full decoration (like the Bavarian Merit 4th Class) is special.

In this case, you and Lee received the Bavarian Merit 4th Class because of your outstanding job with the recon missions within Bloody April IV.  They were long and grueling and highly dangerous.  And yet you both kept volunteering for them.  That's the type of dedication that deserves recognition.

Thank you for the appreciation, I gladly do these missions like Gimli says in LotR: "Certainty of death, small chance of success- what are we waiting for?"

In real life I put the ribbons on my chest. But here? Other Jastas have them on the signature but that is not the way Manfred would do it, I think.

I gladly follow the example of the rest of the Geschwader.

S!

Famous last words.

JG1 will eventually have a website, not just a forum. We have had a website in the past. Recently we had some minor problems and some changes. The goal is to give every pilot a place for his avatar, biography and a medal display area. Would be nice to have a picture of your favorite plane. In the distant past each pilot had a flight log of the dates of combat, the target achieved or the plane type and name of the pilot that he killed.

In the mean time, CONTATZ  to all that participated in Bloody April 4.

It  was loads of fun.
