Some interesting observations

Awesome.  I'll try it and report back.  Oh btw, another question.  I got another pink plane issue with fw190D9.  After a bit research, it was due to its droptank.  I flipped from cap to lower case and back, none of them worked.  So I just deleted droptank for D9 and it worked fine after that.  So based on what HSFX weapons file shows, D9 has no AG weapons and no tanks?  Just a pure AA fighter?

Yep, they are pure fighters. You should use my modified weapons file in DIT's 'basefiles_412+HSFX' folder. It's based on real game data.

I figured out why late last night.  There was a section under USAF that is a repeat of what is up in the British section.  You can go down the list and take a look.  If I remember correctly it's between the sections of AVG and 9AF. At first I thought those squadrons were part of the Eagle squadrons.  But a closer look, you can see some Czech squadrons.  I simply deleted them out.  Now it's working fine.

Yep, the whole section should be copied to the RAF section. Not the first time that the game files prove to be plainly wrong....

Yep, that's the 'cleanest' way. There are many other workarounds, but possibly you have to try more together.

1) play as squadron leader (i.e. always in the first flight);

2) or/and tune down the number of flights per squadron in DCG;

3) or/and make sure your squadron is stationed on an airfield, not on an airstrip (check the 'no transfer' option and distribute your squadrons manually or via timetable commands);

4) generally, avoid overcrowding airfields: if you use a 'dense' or 'full' squadron setting, do not station more than one bomber and one fighter squadron on the same airfield

The leader is always the highest ranking officer of the mission - so it can change from one mission to the next.  So if you want to be the leader, you need to make yourself the highest ranked officer in the squadron.

I'm not sure what you're asking about the carrier.  I have set up some carriers to have as many as five different units on them.

Ok, what is your squadron density, Paul?  I also have 5, 2 fighters, 1 torpedo, 1 dive and 1 scout/dive, but if I set density to full, I always start the mission in air.  If set to dense, sometimes I start on carrier, sometimes I start in air.  On the squadron lead question, I can lead a squadron at the lowest rank if playing US side (USN, USAAF and USMC).  But if I play axis side (German or Japanese), I don't lead any more.  It's really weird.  Lastly, I think my Tulagi map is completely screwed up somehow.  Nothing in endcampaign, or setting in DCG options will change a thing.  It always start in air and the map won't transition to the next one. :(

I never set the density to full.  Usually I play at moderate, sometimes full.

No idea how you're leading squadrons at the lowest rank for the US side.  That shouldn't happen.

If you change endcampaign parameters after you've started the campaign, it won't change.  You have to re-create the campaign.

As for carriers, most have 2 fighters, 1 torpedo (with fewer planes for US), 1 dive-bomber, but I've been modifying them recently to add a third fighter squadron so that two can escort and one fly CAP.
