I’m currently on the 10th mission in the Battle of Leyte and I’d like to address two issues that really bother me. The first is the seemingly very low attack priority assigned to aircraft targeting enemy ships, especially major combatants like heavy cruisers and larger vessels. At times during the campaign, DCG has often completely ignored entire enemy cargo fleets (15 ships) or naval task forces including three battleships, even though they were well within range (approx. 300 km and lower after each following Mission). I didn't encounter such problems in DCG 3.47; back then, whenever enemy ships appeared, they were attacked immediately by every available carrier-based aircraft. And that's fine, especially when the "Ships remain Sunk" option is enabled and this is the case in 90 % of all my campaigns. The thing is, you go to the trouble of defining every single ship in the shipnames file, and then you get missions like the one shown in the picture below... The second issue that bothers me personally is the lack of artillery engagements when locations are being contested. I haven't seen any friendly or enemy artillery spawns to defend a location, neither during the initial troop landings at beachheads nor during the subsequent contest of the sites themselves (also see pic). As a result, the ground war is far less dynamic, since the attacking forces are able to capture one location after another without facing any resistance. But DCG has spawned sometimes widly Artillery of both sides on Locations which were far away from the Frontline... All these Roadtraffic of this Campaign are made years ago and i played them already with 3.47 and had never such strange problems. Back in 2000 or so when I started writing DCG back in 2001, computers were far less powerful and less objects could be spawn. The game maps were much smaller and the road networks that I created were mostly linear (from West to East). There would be only one "contested" area that would generate two generic lines of guns and that contested area would be the centre of all the fighting. There were no ships (or sea routes). Now road networks have multiple paths across the maps and there are sea lanes and patrol boxes for ships. But the "front line" location is still the focus of player mission (and all AI missions). If ships spawn outside the radius of that location, they will be ignored. And if there are multiple areas being contested on the ground, only the one will spawn generic defences. It's less important now days with much more powerful processors that can handle templates with hundreds of static objects (guns). But the "front line" legacy still remains.  Quote

Looking at your zoomed in map, where the blue artillery spawn, does that location link with the one across the water? Or are they both the last locations of a road network? And are they suffixed with "_Beach" or "_Beachhead"? I refer you to page 9 of your Create an external DCG campaign-2.pdf if these are beach landing zones. If they are and don't abide by those rules, you may get weird results with statics spawn or not spawning in.   Quote
