August 25Aug 25 Author comment_100862 😡 I'll review the code again. I'm just perplexed as to why they are jumping into the PRD from the SRD. I'm glad you can workaround it for now, but I'm determine to correct this one. Report
September 14Sep 14 comment_100934 Hi, I am testing my last sub-campaign (out of 27 in total) using version 3.50beta26. I’m currently on the 10th mission in the Battle of Leyte and I’d like to address two issues that really bother me. The first is the seemingly very low attack priority assigned to aircraft targeting enemy ships, especially major combatants like heavy cruisers and larger vessels. At times during the campaign, DCG has often completely ignored entire enemy cargo fleets (15 ships) or naval task forces including three battleships, even though they were well within range (approx. 300 km and lower after each following Mission). I didn't encounter such problems in DCG 3.47; back then, whenever enemy ships appeared, they were attacked immediately by every available carrier-based aircraft. And that's fine, especially when the "Ships remain Sunk" option is enabled and this is the case in 90 % of all my campaigns. The thing is, you go to the trouble of defining every single ship in the shipnames file, and then you get missions like the one shown in the picture below... The second issue that bothers me personally is the lack of artillery engagements when locations are being contested. I haven't seen any friendly or enemy artillery spawns to defend a location, neither during the initial troop landings at beachheads nor during the subsequent contest of the sites themselves (also see pic). As a result, the ground war is far less dynamic, since the attacking forces are able to capture one location after another without facing any resistance. But DCG has spawned sometimes widly Artillery of both sides on Locations which were far away from the Frontline... All these Roadtraffic of this Campaign are made years ago and i played them already with 3.47 and had never such strange problems. I think this problem was already discribed by user "Bawo2019" on page 3 of this Thread. Thanks for your time! Report

September 14Sep 14 Author comment_100937 The code for targeting hasn't changed significantly over the years. And neither has the spawning of artillery at the "front line". I think both issues are actually related. Back in 2000 or so when I started writing DCG back in 2001, computers were far less powerful and less objects could be spawn. The game maps were much smaller and the road networks that I created were mostly linear (from West to East). There would be only one "contested" area that would generate two generic lines of guns and that contested area would be the centre of all the fighting. There were no ships (or sea routes). Now road networks have multiple paths across the maps and there are sea lanes and patrol boxes for ships. But the "front line" location is still the focus of player mission (and all AI missions). If ships spawn outside the radius of that location, they will be ignored. And if there are multiple areas being contested on the ground, only the one will spawn generic defences. It's less important now days with much more powerful processors that can handle templates with hundreds of static objects (guns). But the "front line" legacy still remains. Report
September 14Sep 14 comment_100940 Ah ok . . I thought this might well be the final version of DCG, so I wanted to make one last contribution. Anyway, no hard feelings, and thanks again for your long-standing support of your great program. Report
September 15Sep 15 Author comment_100941 I doubt it will be the "final" version, but I don't anticipate any major changes going forward. Looking at your zoomed in map, where the blue artillery spawn, does that location link with the one across the water? Or are they both the last locations of a road network? And are they suffixed with "_Beach" or "_Beachhead"? I refer you to page 9 of your Create an external DCG campaign-2.pdf if these are beach landing zones. If they are and don't abide by those rules, you may get weird results with statics spawn or not spawning in. Report
September 15Sep 15 Author comment_100942 Quote At times during the campaign, DCG has often completely ignored entire enemy cargo fleets (15 ships) or naval task forces including three battleships, even though they were well within range (approx. 300 km and lower after each following Mission). Have you tried increasing the action radius even further remembering that two things must be true in order to spawn anti-shipping attacks. Firstly, the distance between ship spawn point and the attack squadron's base must be less than the action radius. Secondly, the distance from the ship spawn point to the "front line" location must be less than the action radius. Report
September 15Sep 15 comment_100948 The position in the second picture is Tacloban Airstrip, the route goes to the left at the end and then back down to the next location, Tacloban. All routes have been verified using the DCG waypoint check! There are four beachhead positions in total at Leyte; one of them is marked by the two bottommost red flags lying side by side. The Action Radius settings is always 999 km and i set for all planes for this campaign a range above 1000 km in the class DCG. Also the red Carriers are not more then 300 km or less from all enemy ships away! I will send you a PM in the next hours with more Pictures from the same campaign but with Missions generated by 3.47 and 3.50beta, so that you can better see the differences of both versions. Till then! Report
September 15Sep 15 Author comment_100949 I think I've discovered the issue. In 3.49 when I was creating a Solomons campaign, I added a little reconnaissance check to make shipping strikes not certainties. So the first mission of any campaign would require both sides to do some scouting and even then they may or may not "find" the enemy (depending on how many reconnaissance assets they have available and whether they were used for recon or not previously). Weather also influenced how fast reconnaissance info would degrade from one mission to the next (as would night). I will post a new beta shortly that makes recons more likely to be successful (but still not a certainty unless the distance from airfield to target is very short and/or reconnaissance assets/mission are very high). September 19Sep 19 comment_100958 After spending a night testing version 3.50beta28 with my Leyte campaign, I can say that the issue with the probability of ship attacks has been resolved, it’s working perfectly now! Thanks! However, the problem persists where no artillery appears for both sides at contested locations. The odd phenomenon of units appearing far behind the front line also still occurs occasionally. I tried it also with and without a fobjects.dcg file and used the timetable to assign additional troops to the Blue defenders at various positions to provoke a longer fight and therefore maybe a higher prob of Artillery spawning, but no luck. After a total of eight missions fully played, I saw Red artillery at a bridgehead in only two instances, and none at all for the Blue side. Report
September 20Sep 20 Author comment_100959 Good on the ship attacks being resolved. I'm not surprised there are still issues with contested locations. I haven't had time yet to look at that code. 😄 Report
