Two location problems

Recommended Posts

Hi!
So, I have modified berlin.rds
First problem
I have added an _Airfield. I added it to the locale lines in allcampaigns, so it start as an Allied location. It worked superb, but then I modified furthermore the .rds file and created a new campaign and the new airfield is Axis. I rolled back and added the lines again and even deleted the backups, but it seems this doesn't work.

Second problem
In the master berlin.mis file I added some columns near  location A, so when the campaign starts those columns start there, near the front. Now, all these columns go from A to D, so I added some roads between A and B, B and C and C and D and deleted the road from A to D. Now, these columns only appear in Home and move towards the front.

Any help?

Second problem first.  It's probably just by accident the columns appeared near the front the first time.  You're probably better to add them to the timetable.dcg file so you can define exactly where they start.  For example:

  19410808 NewColumn 38_Chief Armor.4-T26_Early 1 @Russian_Depot $Armor_Group_2 ~L

The first problem is more difficult to figure out.  The airfield has to be both in the allcampaigns.dcg file (to tell the game it's Allied) AND it has to be set up properly in the berlin.rds file.  If it's in both, it needs to be spelled exactly the same in each (and if it's in the rds file multiple times, off course, those have to all be the same as well).

If you cut and paste here the Berlin entry in the allcampaigns.dcg and cut and paste the relevant parts of the rds file, maybe I can figure it out.

Regarding the first problem, I used that the very first time, deleting and adding two convoys and it worked. Now, none of those convoys is there.
So, this is the new [Berlin] entry in allcampaigns.dcg

[Berlin]
  Campaign=Grand_Campaign
  Map=Berlin
  Date=15/03/1945
  Attacker=Red

  Locale3=Sulechow
  Locale4=
  Locale5=
  Locale6=

and this is the definition of the new places

Now, for the second issue, I want to go from Swiebodzin_Airfield to Sulecin_Bridge77
This is the stock DCGl path and the one I deleted

  173820.23 13230.63 120.0

Now, I want to go from Swiebodzin_Airfield to Swiebodzin, then to Swiebodzin_Bridge88 and then to Sulecin_Bridge77.
I only added a Swiebodzin_Airfield to Swiebodzin route, because there were already  Swiebodzin->Swiebodzin_Bridge88 and Swiebodzin_Bridge88->Sulecin_Bridge77 routes (or the other way around).

[Swiebodzin_Airfield to Swiebodzin]
  173862.89 13237.50 20.00 0 2 2.5
  173019.30 13172.36 20.00 0 2 2.5

  171916.64 17192.62 20.00 0 2 2.5
  172230.15 17206.64 20.00

Now, I've checked some more and it turns out that if I have this route or not, it's irrelevant. If I delete the Sulecin_Bridge77->Swiebodzin_Airfield route, no matter what, the columns don't get created. It's not a coincidence as you said. I created several campaigns with the Sulecin_Bridge77->Swiebodzin_Airfield route and in all of those the columns were created. In none of the campaigns I created, without the Sulecin_Bridge77->Swiebodzin_Airfield  route, the columns were created

Looking at the original Berlin.rds file, it seems I made it a bit of a mess.  I don't understand why Swiebodzin and Swiebodzin_Airfield never linked to each other.  It makes sense that you added a link.

Your route between Swiebodzin and Swiebodzin_Airfield needs to be plotted out in that order.  All routes must go from the German "side" to the "Russian" side.  So it must start in Swiebodzin and end at Swiebodzin_Airfield.

I think I see another potential issue.  Zielona_Góra_Airfield is a dead end.  It should link up with Polish_Border_Bridge69.  If you don't, there is a good chance German units will travel up to it and then respawn back in their home location.  And Russian units will never be able to recapture it.

Now, the road goes from Swiebodzin to Swiebodzin_Airfield and the chiefs appear, so that's solved.

The Zielona_Góra_Airfield still starts as Axis. I added a road from ZG_Airfield to Polish_Border_Bridge69, btw.

While we are at it, trains are the only column able to capture rail bridges and stations, right? So, if a train doesn't appear ever near a rail bridge, that rail bridge will never change sides, even if it's surrounded by opposing side forces, right?

Zielona_Góra_Airfield needs to be added as a locale in the allcampaign file.  Because the map is defined as "Axis" controlled, all locations are German unless specified there.

As for rail bridges and stations, they take the "side" of the nearest road location.

It was already in the locale section in Berlin, as you can see above. I also tried adding an allied column before the start of the campaign, with timetables, but nothing happens.

As I can't think of anything else, it may be the "ó".  Try changing it to your standard "o" in both files.

It was exactly that. What bothers me the most is that at some point in the past that ó wasn't an issue. I now tried using ó instead of ó and nothing happened. It seems that Il-2 doesn't support ANSI, then, but also not utf-8.

Edit: do you know what codification does Il-2 use? And what codification does DCG use?
