  1. Hi Guys, from my game recordings of the last TiF I created now my first (longer) film: Well, I used the free movie maker app, have no experience in film creation at all, no wonder it's pretty amateurish.... Nevertheless I hope it gives some impression of the action we had there Salute Etzel
  2. Everyone, Congratulations to both the Blue Team and the Red Team for their outstanding performances over the last 8 weeks! Thank you so much for sharing the inaugural Tanks In Flames event with us! Flying and tanking with you all was a tremendous amount of fun, and both @Butzzell and I hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did. As mission designers and event administrators, we learned a lot of lessons in both Phase A and Phase B of the Spring Campaign. We're hoping to use this new information to bring improvements to the whole TIF concept. The goal is to not only give TIF more advanced gameplay but also to make the overall tournament more interesting to a wider audience. Specifically, we're going to take a serious look at the air war and how we can better integrate it into the ground conflict. As we start our Summer break, we hope to have more information for you soon. Keep checking back! Now, onto the results: With a stunning offensive in Phase B that I think General Patton would be proud of, the Blue Team has secured enough points to win the overall Spring Campaign. You guys definitely brought your "A Game", both in the air and on the ground. And I know that the Red Team can't wait to have the chance to meet you again on the virtual battlefield. To celebrate the conclusion of the Spring Campaign, here is the TIF victory decoration. A blue ribbon for the Blue Team, as well as a medallion detailing the event. Thank you to every pilot and tanker! Without your support, this tournament would not be able to function! The scores for Session B4 are shown below. . . . 6. TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign" - A4 Results (Saturday, 1 May 2021) NORTHERN (APPLE / GERTRUDE) SECTOR: All Quiet CENTRAL (STONE / KARTOFFEL) SECTOR: All Quiet SOUTHERN (KINESAW / SCHINDELSMERTZ) SECTOR: Blue (Axis) Advance Total "Phase A" Objectives Completed (FINAL - STALEMATE) Blue Team = 2 = 0 PHASE POINTS [see below] Red Team = 3 = 0 PHASE POINTS [see below] There was a mission glitch in Session A4 with regards to the HQ. The Blue Team bombed the southern Red HQ successfully, and captured the 2 flags necessary to secure the territory. This should have resulted in a Blue advance in the south at around the 1 hour mark. The map should have then automatically moved the combat area into the Central Sector. However, this did not happen. It's still not clear why the capture triggers didn't work correctly on mission night. @Butzzell has now run the mission multiple times and the HQ / capture mechanism is working as intended. Hopefully, whatever the bug was has been squashed. Regardless, in the interest of fairness, the Blue Team (as the Axis) will get credit in the south, and advance west. This will give them 1 point, bringing them to 2 points total. And while the Red Team technically would win Phase A with 3 points total, it has been decided to end Phase A in stalemate. That is a tie. The Red Team is mostly made up of JG1 (the host squadron), and JG1 does not wish to profit off of a mission error in an event it coordinates. Moving into Phase B, both teams now have a clean slate and the chance for ultimate victory. Speaking of Phase B, the Blue Team and the Red Team will now switch sides. Blue will go Allied. Red will go Axis. The map will also be reset to the initial starting positions. This is not in any way connected to the A4 HQ glitch. Rather, this side switching and map reset is the way the tournament is intended to be played. Should anyone have any questions, just send me a message on the forums or Discord. Thanks! . . . 7. All, @Heinrich has created Allied skins are for JG1 to use during the upcoming TIF 2021 Spring Campaign. They are non-historical and are designed for air-to-air recognition. You can download JG1's Allied skins here: https://forum.jg1.org/topic/7959-official-jg1-skins/?do=findComment&comment=68592 Heinrich has also created Allied skins for some of the Red Team pilots who will be joining us. You can download the non-JG1 Red Team skins here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/asg9kwfe9ttk3sh/2021-0409_MERCTIF_Allied.zip?dl=0 We apologize for not being able to provide skins for everyone on the Red Team. If anyone from the Red Team would like to add skins, please post them below.

  11. TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign" Schedule: This year's TIF Spring Campaign will be followed by other "IN FLAMES" events. A dry run / test mission will be held on Saturday, 27 March 2021 at 2PM EDT / 6PM UTC, as per the TIF Calendar. A dry run / test mission will be held on Saturday, 3 April 2021 at 2PM EDT / 6PM UTC, as per the TIF Calendar. 12. TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign" Map: TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign" is a completely fictitious event with little historical precedent. The default IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Bodenplatte map is used. Specifically, the combat area west of Münster (within the modern day state North Rhine-Westphalia). This is a region of the Western Front that, historically, saw fierce fighting between the Western Allies and Nazi Germany. Münster was heavily garrisoned by the Germans during World War II, and was repeatedly bombed by the USAAF. Historically, Münster was eventually liberated by U.S. and British forces on 2 April 1945. The plane-set for this map will be late 1944 / early 1945. The Allies are in the West. The Axis are in the East. Note that there are two airbases per side - Soesterberg and Schijndel for the Allies in the West, and Handorf and Sortmund for the Axis in the East. Both the Allies and Axis have Forward Landing Fields, underlined in yellow. The Allied Forward Landing Field is at Nijmegen (GRID 1117). The Axis Forward Landing Field is at Coesfeld (GRID 1026). It is possible to rearm, refuel and repair your aircraft at a Forward Landing Field. However, there is no aircraft spawning there. Forward Landing Fields can also be temporarily knocked out by destroying every oil drum present. Allied-oriented Map: Note that blue is friendly and red is enemy. Axis-oriented Map: Note that blue is friendly and red is enemy.

  14. All, the map for the TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign" has been posted: https://forum.jg1.org/topic/8643-tif2021-spring-campaign-map/ The plane-set will be late 1944 / early 1945, and all tanks will be available in some form. Once the teams have been finalized, the plane-set and the tank-set will be finalized by participating squadrons. Let me know if there are any questions.
  15. The following is the tank-set for the TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign". Since the TIF 2021 "Spring Campaign" is a semi-fictitious event with little historical precedent, the tanks and vehicles selected are merely meant to suggest the pitched ground battles of World War Two. Tanks have different refresh rates, depending on their role: Commander tanks refresh within 15 minutes. Main tanks / Bridge Brigade tanks refresh within 30 minutes. Heavy tanks refresh within 60 minutes (provided the corresponding Ammo Dump has not been damaged). Should there any questions, or possible oversights, please contact @Butzzell and @Klaiber TIF 2021s Tank-set - Phase A / B [late 1944 / early 1945]

  17. Great job, Klaiber & @Butzzell!
  18. TIF Features: TIF has many features that pilots and tankers should be aware of. Capture Zones (within Dead is Dead): As explained in the event rules, a player has just one life as a pilot. If killed or captured as a pilot, the player has unlimited lives as an aircraft gunner or as a tanker. Regarding capture, the blue map shown below is a visual representation of capture zones on a map. It is just an example and does not correspond specifically to any one phase or campaign. Because the TIF battlefield is one of advancing and retreating armies, enemy territory is not solid. There are holes in territorial control near the front where you can bail out or crash land and avoid becoming a prisoner of war (POW). The light blue areas are places where you will avoid captured. The dark blue areas are places where you will be captured. The enemy's backfield area (the rectangular zone near the rear airfields) is completely under enemy control. They are full capture zones. You will not escape if you bail out or crash land there. The dark blue areas around installations are also capture zones. If you are flying and become damaged, try and get as far away from enemy installations as possible before bailing out or ditching. If you bail out or ditch in enemy territory, exit to the in-game map screen and check to see if you are captured. If you are not captured, you may switch to a new aircraft and take off again after checking with your team commander and a 5 minute timeout. Starting Flare: The server comes up 15 minutes before the start of session. The extra 15 minutes is to allow for the server to settle, as well as to give all participants the chance to test their game and settings. While the session does not start until the top of the hour, players are encouraged to spawn at their assigned positions and get their aircraft or vehicle ready and warmed-up. At the top of the hour a flare will be fired by a car close to the spawn point. Bridge Repair: On the in-game map, there will be several blue bridge icons located between tank bases. These are wooden bridges that start out demolished. They may be repaired and crossed! To do this, you'll need a "bridge brigade" tank. Below is a visual explanation as to how to use this type of tank to cross riverine systems. Forward Landing Field (Rearm and Refuel and Repair): There are Forward Landing Fields between the front-line and the actual rear air bases. No planes are available here. Rather, these fields allow pilots to to do the "3 R's" (rearm, refuel and repair) without having to fly all the way back to their base of origin. By rearming, refueling and repairing at these forward landing fields, you avoid the 5 minute refly penalty you would incur by landing and respawning at a rear air base. Note that the forward landing field can be shut down for 30 minutes if all of the oil tanks nearby are destroyed. Below is an example map, underlining the forward landing fields in yellow, as well as a visual explanation as to how shut down your enemy's forward landing field. Heavy Tanks (Ammo Dump / Supply Depot): Heavy tanks are limited on the map. There are only two of each type at each tank base. Additionally, these heavy tanks have a 1 hour respawn time. Heavy tanks can be temporarily removed from the spawn list of your enemy by damaging the Ammo Dump associated with a specific base. When an Ammo Dump is damaged, the local Supply Depot will send out a repair convoy to fix it. The repair convoy will take 30 minutes to arrive at the Ammo Dump. Upon arrival, it repairs the Ammo Dump and heavy tanks are available again. If the repair convoy does not arrive after 30 minutes, the Supply Depot will send out another repair convoy. Destroying the Supply Depot prevents the repair convoy from being sent. The Supply Depot will automatically repair itself in 30 minutes, and will start sending out repair convoys again if it detects that the Ammo Dump is still damaged. Note that supplies are limited due to battle conditions. The Supply Depot only has enough stockpiled to make 4 repair convoys. After that, they will no longer have the ability to repair the Ammo Dump due to infrastructure damage. Once all repair convoys are stopped or destroyed, the heavy tanks will be removed from the session. Below is a visual explanation of the Ammo Dump and the Supply Depot.
  19. TIF Objectives: The objective of TIF is to capture enemy territories (tank bases). Capturing an enemy tank base will require cooperation between ground and air units, as the actual capture process is a three part mechanism. These three parts may be accomplished in any order, but all three must be true at the same time for victory to occur. The three parts to territorial capture are: Moving your tanks into the combat area, and physically controlling at least two of the three white flag markers located there. Control means actually holding the flags with your forces and having the flags display your in-game coalition's banner. Moving a "commander tank" up to the combat area, and have them prime the same two flags you control for capture. Priming a flag does not equal controlling a flag. A command tank can prime a flag for capture at any time by driving near a flag. Nor does the command tank need to control the flag to prime it. A flag primed for capture will always be shown with a blue marker. Having your air units destroy the enemy headquarters (HQ) associated with the enemy tank base you wish to capture. With these three things accomplished and true, the enemy tank base will be taken. However, as previously stated, all three of these conditions must be true simultaneously in order to secure victory. . . . An example of territorial capture: Flags are shown on the map as white markers. White flag markers start with no name and no color. Once a team takes control of a white flag marker, a text will appear showing who claims it - Allies or German. If the Allies control the flag marker, a yellow color patch will appear over it, supplementing the "Allies" text overhead. If the Axis control the flag marker, a green color patch will appear over it, supplementing the "German" text overhead. Remember, any tank can change the flag. And an enemy can come in at any time and take the flag back. Part 1 - Axis Offensive: The Axis have just pushed into the town of Wesel (the current combat area) and have claimed the south-eastern flag, changing it to green with "German" overhead. Part 2 - Axis Commander: Now look at the south-eastern flag. The blue circle the lines marker (eye lash) indicates that the Axis have just pushed up with a commander tank, and that this commander tank has primed the controlled flag by driving near it. Once the commander tank enters the flag's circle, it is primed for the whole session. This priming will never go away! In a larger view of the region, we can see a flag counter now saying: Allies 0 / Germans 1. This means that the Germans now have primed 1 flag within the combat area. Part 3 - Axis Offensive Continues: Marching on, the Axis now take another flag in the south-west. The south-west flag turns green, and gets "German" written above it because it is now in Axis control. And because a commander tank moved in at the same time, the flag is primed simultaneously. Notice the blue circle is now bigger, and there are two lines markers (eye lashes). Pulling out again to see the region, we now see the flag counter has changed: Allies 0 / Germans 2. Two flags controlled by Axis forces. Two flags primed by a commander tank. The texts and color patches act as a reminder as to your progress. Part 4 - Wesel Under Axis Control: The Axis now control three flags (three greens)! And each have been primed by a commander tank! Notice the blue circle is now even bigger, and there are three lines markers (eye lashes). Why have they not won?! Well, the Axis bomber was shot down before it reached the Allied HQ, and the enemy headquarters associated with this territory is still up. All three of these conditions must be true simultaneously in order to secure victory. Part 5 - Allied Offensive: The Allies are fighting back and have taken a flag. The south-western flag now has a yellow color patch and says Allies over it. Notice that there is only one blue circle on the map. This is because we're seeing things from the Allied perspective, and they've only been able to prime this one flag with their own commander tank. Part 6 - Allied Offensive Continues: The Allies are on a roll! They now control a second flag. In fact, they've been able to bring their commander tank up to prime it for capture. Notice the regional flag counter now says: Allies 2 / Germans 1. The text markers and color patches at the flags confirm which flags belong to which team. The Allies are now on the verge of victory! But they have not captured the territory yet because the Axis HQ associated within this region is still up. Part 7 - Allied Victory: The Allied bomber makes it to the Axis HQ and destroys it. This is the last piece the Allies need in order to take the Axis tank base and capture Wesel. The Allies are victorious! Conclusion: Flags have the ability to change back and forth from enemy to friendly. Their ability to do this is unlimited. The blue circle indicating that a commander tank has primed a flag is permanent. Once the territory is captured the front-line shows the advancement and this specific battle is over. The colors of yellow (Allies) and green (Axis) were chosen because they do not appear on the default map and are not regularly used by mission builders. An example of a headquarters (HQ). The targets that must be bombed are the black buildings around the inside.
