So I"ve been looking. For awhile.  Will go w destop mount for now with possible longer ( but not floor mount extension)    have lookerd at virpil. Vkb. Etc. Any good recommandations. ?

I would take WINWING over Virpil. I like Virpil and I use it for my Bf-109 and Tomcat/Hornet but it is a deck mounted stick which you said you didn't want. I will say that if you try it, you would like it but for some the space is too precious. 

WINWING components are just flat out better. More solid, more metal, better feel...  gives the impression that they are going to last.
