No, not above the carrier, it says I am based at "Townsville airfield" which is I understand in Australia!? That's an off map airfield then.

 

I start mid air and the waypoints guide me over the target and then off the map. This is the Okinawa campaign, but other pacific maps I tested were the same (airstarts).

 

I had the same issue until I installed 3.48 beta 8 (download link as above; it suffices overwriting the old old exe with the new one, then don't forget to recheck "replacement mode"). Try e.g. USN Pacific Campaign, captain, Coral See, VF-3 Lexington, and report back if it still doesn't work correctly.

Using VF-3 as squadron works on Coral Sea map. However, if I try to start a US Navy or a Royal Navy Campaign at Okinawa (with RN I can only choose two squadrons and none of them work to get me started on a carrier) then I doesn't work. Strange.

Yep, confirmed, USN campaign, captain, Okinawa, VF-3, assigned home base is Townsville Airfield. What is strange that allied AI squads are correctly stationed on USS Essex or HMS Illustrious. Poor Paul, another bug to hunt down...  ;)

You're probably right. Check the Coral See scenario. It works correctly for VF-3 "Lexington", but if VF-3 "Yorktown" is chosen, I get that nasty Townsville Airfield. As to AIs, only those are assigned to Lexington which have "Lexington" in their squad designation in squadids (VF_3B and VB_2B).

any news on the fix for carrier ops, or is best option to revert to earlier beta?

 

You can use the squadron panel to put yourself on carrier as a temporary fix. Just generate a new mission after that. You only need to do this once at the beggining of the campaign.

only issue is that I do not see the carrier as a selectable "airbase"  I do see carriers listed in the ground object panel though.  Thus appears that the carriers in correctly rendered as chiefs, however are now set as spawn points for aircraft.  At least in my install running latest  DCG beta.

Strange. Could be a mod conflict if you have any mods. I am not an expert though, so I hope someone else can help. i know I used the squadron panel in my Okinawa RN Campaign. You can try to start this campaign and see if you can select a carrier in the SP. If only for debugging purposes.

I have no idea.  I don't remember what this does.  :wacko:

 

Okay, I looked at the code.  It refers to the point ground columns halt before the routes last waypoint.  So bigger the number, the further the distance away (from the location and the enemy).

Yea, I tried everything from modded to stock 4.12.2 and same result.  No matter stock pacific DCG campaign involving carriers, all aircraft will only spawn in the air.  Both blue and red sides.

A possible workaround (until Paul fixes the issue) is to use "named" carriers with "named" squads.

 

That is,

 

 

USN_VF_5A               Fighting Squadron 5 USS Saratoga CV-3
USN_VF_3B               Fighting Squadron 3 "Felix the Cat" USS Lexington CV-2

 

with

 

 

USSLexingtonCV2
USSSaratogaCV3

 

 Same for the British or the Japanese.

Thanks Lo, filename probably corrected since then, my download is il2dcg348beta9.zip. Exe timestamp 2014.04.17 20:42, but "About/Version" still reads "January 2012". Would be great to have it updated.

 

However, I encounter the same problem as before. UN Coral Sea 1942 with stock template etc files still doesn't put me on USSCVGeneric. "Named" Lexington squads correctly deploy on Lexington, just like the Japanese ones.
