When I flew with VMF222 in AH, I flew wingman with the XO a lot in the main arena. He wouldn't fly FSO (FIF Style) So in FSO I ended up an element leader a lot of times. This XO and I Would follow a lot of these things. We mainly flew F4U-1A we got to the point where we didn't say much during an engagement unless it turned to 2 v 2. Will keep up tactical Elemental maneuvering Usually loose duece Will work single bandits over using the Engaged / Free doctrines. The first will drop the second waits till the first is 1000M then drops anticipate the break and be there if not break off if no shot. Rinse repeat. Will value each other more than we value the kill My K/D with him was great if its to hairy or no advantage leave Will set a soft deck and try not to go below it Had one Will set a hard deck and not go below it Also had it Will escort each other back to base when damaged Did that also Will fly our aircraft to their strengths Had to. F4u1A was a not good in a turn fight. But it was great in the dive and had speed. so you had to think vertically Will tell each other when we're not flying our aircraft to their strengths Will keep up "Triple C" Communications at all times - clear, concise, correct. Both offensive and defensive. Bandit high 6 lets reverse. Reverse how do you turn into or away from each other for a 180 heading. This is why I keep flying. Just debating doctrine or trying new ones is always fun.

At the 9 and 18 second mark it sound like the chord progression for Children of the Grave I like it I think I heard some Joe Satriani, Rush's YYZ and possibly some Dream Theater in it. May be I should come here to look for music instead of the rabbit hole of youtube.

Ya I can hear the Velvet Underground now that you say it. You don't have there self title debut? Its good check it out 41 Mosquitoes and Slide Through My Fingers are great songs I don't like there new album its Electro Pop. I don't mind electronic music but that album wasn't for me It has 2 songs if that I like if that. I have not heard of American Sharks. I like it.

I had a lot of stuff bookmarked on youtube that I wanted to look into more for expanding my collection a lot of it has been blocked.

No I haven't heard of Uncle Acid and the Dead Beats sounds like something I could get into. Speaking of the 13th floor Elevators I'm under the suspicion that they may have influenced The Black Angels Some what. Also the the Night Beats, Catch a Ride to the Sonic Bloom has a drone psychedelic feel and transfers into a 13th Elevator feel. I agree And if you like that drone psychedelic feel Pocahaunted has it. Bethany Cosentino moved from that to a 60's style California pop band Best Coast. The song The Sun Was High and so Was I is good low fi fuzz guitar song. Best Coast isn't my thing but that song is great. I'm sure you have heard of Tame Impala, Kevin Parker produced this.

Reignwolf he is a one man wrecking machine. At times its just him his guitar and a kick drum live. Only has a few songs out for download.

Never heard of Dead Man. Haunted man sounds like a combo of Talking Heads, Nothing but Flowers and Rusted Roots, Ecstasy. Black Angels I like Passover and Indigo Meadow. By your last post if you like that Night Beats Sonic Bloom Album might be up your alley. Here is an example of old school reverb from the Spyrals

Thanks Klaiber, Ya I tried ever share option. Now that I know how to do it you may have unleashed a monster. I love music will listen to anything but rap and country. I've noticed that reverb has made a comeback lately. Bands like the Spyrals, Black Angels, The Night Beats and The Allah-las. Seem to use it a lot.

This is a re edit for any one who saw my first post for those who haven't I couldn't figure out how to post a you tube video with out linking it. So I gave up. I was at work today and had a song in my head and I for some reason decided the lyrics should be changed not necessarily a song I'm listening to but it was in my head none the less. Production work suck as a machinist. Its Drop Kick Murphy's Johnny I Hardly Knew You. The chorus instead of "We had guns and drums and drums and guns" I for some reason decided that "We had sons of guns and guns of sons" was more fitting. Here is the song for those who want to hear it

My dad will enjoy this story.

Found his channel before I bought the game. It helped me decide to dive into it. I'm doing ok in the Saur-Mogila Russian campaign. Don't know if I'll reach the other objective before time runs out. I should be fine as long as supplies last or the Germans don't mount a major counter offensive. I've been setting up small custom battles to see how things work. I figured out how to use the squad leader to auto spot for mortars. Still working on the on map arty. I can get them to auto fire and get the squad leader to call for a barrage but he won't call out targets on his own like the mortar team. I haven't tried it with a forward observer. Only with my leader within shouting distance. S!

You never disappoint. Your picture always look great.

Thanks Lipfert. that is exactly what I'm looking for. You are right the learning curve is steep. Biggest issue is the tutorials are lacking in content. The 2nd tutorial with the tanks and infantry it took me awhile to figure out how to get the infantry to advance behind the tanks. Once i figured out how to get the secondary movement menu up the rest where kind of straight forward. Its mostly going back and forth from the manual youtube and forums to get by.

My friends are into fantasy football. Board games and speed really aren't their thing. I think I may have played that as a kid with my neighbor. My dad had a few bookcase games. On more then one occasion either my neighbor or I would get pissed and flip the board. I have seen it never paid attention to it thought it was board game style. Now that I have looked at it closer it looks more of a country management with world domination style. That I'm ok with. This is why I posted. I figured there where games I either over looked like Hearts of Iron. Or never heard of like Graviteam Tactics.
-
Now that you say that I played Battle of Empires which is either the same developer or same game play engine and I didn't care for it so I never tried MoW. Just checked out some Youtube videos. I see what you mean by steep learning curve. It does look closer to my preferred style of game play. I may check that out. Thanks

I'm hoping by posting here someone may have an idea of a good strategy game that I may have overlooked. We will skip the Total War series which I do like but its not for this discussion. So I have played Company of Heroes Now its an ok game but I have a few beefs with it and it may help you with what I'm looking for. 1 I don't really care for base building or capture points for resources. 2 The only real good version was the Ardennes Campaign only because your companies took damage that would effect your next battle. 3 but your units did't gain experience between battles. Close Combat series I liked how you're regiments would get fatigued unless you pulled them off the line. Also the units would carry over their experience from battle to battle. Bad side they never bothered to improve on the game mechanics or graphics for that matter since the 1st one. I just picked up Steel Division Normandy 1944 Well it looks great for multi player. You can pick different divisions and outfit it your way remove some artillery for more infantry. Add anti tank guns an remove your recons that sort of thing. The campaign however is just a series of battles doesn't matter what you do. It has no effect on the next one. So here is a game I like but its the American Civil War its called Ultimate General: Civil War 1 the campaign is a series of battles with skirmishes in between. 2 You get money and reputation points after every battle to spend however you want 3 Your units do gain experience and if you add recruits to a battle hardened brigade they lose that experience. 1200 3rd rank soldiers are better than 2500 raw recruits. 4 you as a General also gain experience. Do you go for better intel, logistics or do you go from 1 corps with 2 divisions to 3 division or later on 3 corps 4 divisions each. 5 you can decide which corps you will send to the skirmish the bigger battles tend to use all your corps available. 6 there are times a draw is better than losing too many men to get the victory. Basically I'm looking for a campaign where my actions have consequences and the experience carries over.. Do I send these guys in. I know they are tired but I know they will get the job done. That sort of thing. If you read through it all I hope you didn't get too bored. Thanks

I'm also piss poor at bombing. I can level bomb in ROF an BOx. I can dive bomb in BOS. Its the shallow attack in ROF that I'm bad at. I'm also bad at it in BOx but I read some where in BOx the bombs skip so that is part of my problem. As far as suggetions: ROF at this point in its development stick with sorties or use it as a visual aid for describing ACM's. It would be rare at this point for someone to find your video and decide to check out ROF. So reviews would be pointless. BOx I doubt that complaining about this sim will change it. I'm not saying take the high road but don't waste all your energy on the negatives. Now with the sims you do have access to like mentioned before sorties are always good. Also there are videos that will help out your squad and videos that could help out your fellow airman. After picking up a few of WW2 aircraft for DCS recently. I've been messing with my controls. Expanding on your BOS sliders for most of us setting up controls is no big deal, for a noob it could be overwhelming. For me If I may need it at a moments notice especially in combat its on my Warthog HOTAS. If I know I need it but its semi important and I can look away for a split sec its on my DSD flight controller. The rest is on my keyboard. As far as ACM's there is only one good source for that and its Requiem's videos. Problem with those is online things don't always set up your way unless you recruit a squadie to be your guinea pig. The list for how to is endless though. Formations, combat turns, pincer maneuvers, lag displacement rolls, Loose deuce vs welded wing etc etc etc etc..............

Ok I decided to check out the DCS P-51 and the DCS FW-190D. I like them both. My problem is it looks like its going to be a fighter pilots wet dream online for Normandy map. What about heavy bombers? Yes the pony (and jug if its released) can carry bombs but there is no real bombers planned as far as I can see.

I was thinking about this at work this is where BoS is lacking. Going back to when I flew Warbirds and Aces High they both had weekly organized events similar to FIF. I just looked up Aces High's last event that was last Friday. 217 pilots showed up 108 vs 109. Now granted the graphics aren't as pretty as BoS but that is still impressive as far as an online flight sim vs server load. I doubt BoS servers would ever be able to pull that off.
-
I don't know what to think of any of the choices. CLoD I'm waiting for the official patch. Bos series I find it bull crap that you can't see a contact above you. You should be able to pick out a target against the clear blue sky. I am hoping they do a good job on the Pacific that is my 1st love for WW2 sims. But I wont hold my breath. DCS I havent flown any of the WW2 aircraft. I guess I'm waiting to see the Normandy map and what they plan on doing for the future. Not to mention I haven't flown online there, and the lack of any single player Dynamic campaign has me turned off with DCS. DCS just feels like a different kind of mess great planes but now what? What servers should I fly? Quick mission oh wait I'm in a F86 against mig 29s that doesn't seem fair. I originally flew online in Warbirds. The guys I flew with and I got sick of it and left for Aces High. Warbirds was just throttle control. Aces High was basic pitch and throttle which thought was awesome. I eventually left AH didn't know where to go so I tried out ROF. Same thing I thought hey I have to control my mixture radiators and engines etc this is great. For me each new sim I joined online was more immersive more hands on then the last and I liked it so why don't I feel that way about BOS. It might be a lot of little things. Flight models feel sloppy damage models could be better etc. Online I'm not so sure about either. I flew the TAW server a bit thought it was great that there where no map icons, you had to be careful that you didn't lose your planes, however the fact that its an imbalanced server with infighting in the forums plus no side switching is a turn off. WOL server has map icons on which after ROF I just find it lazy to have them turned on. Plus not being able to see contacts above you. I can go out side and see a cesna a few 1000 feet above me but I can't see one in BOS. They seemed to have gone with too much eye candy and eye candy on a turd is still a turd. So is this the pinnacle for flight sims for me? We can control most of the aspects of flight now so there shouldn't be much more to look forward to there. VR? Better graphics? No sir I don't think its the pinnacle but the climb the rest of the way might be rocky at times. If I had to place a bet I'm betting on CLoD.

I let my flight leader down. After I oiled my engine and RTB I never saw him again. Its all my fault. Great video. If you ever need me to soften ground targets again let me know. I also liked your video on defensive maneuvers. I have a great analogy for lag, pure and lead pursuit. That I was taught by a trainer back in my Warbirds day if ever need some inspiration on the subject.

I posted this in our forum maybe you guys may want to take a look. IL2 looks like after the Eastern Front they are going to the Pacific. I was thinking Rise of Flight and IL2 have no way to plot a course in game. If IL2 is going to the Pacific how do you plot a course in game. I found a free Auto CAD program and created 1/4 of a compass. I plan on printing this to transparency paper. If it doesn't print well I will just print it on paper and trace it to the transparency. What I did was drew a line every 5* for a total of 90* If you need a different heading you can flip the transparency or rotate it to get 360* Not sure if I'll do more to it or leave it as. Feel free to use it.

Thanks for that post. I didn't know him as long as some of you guys but its nice to put a face to the voice. As far as that voice one of the friendliest voices I've heard. Never heard him swear or complain about anything. All he ever wanted to know was what was going on and how can I help.

Hindsight Combat Evaluations in ROF
Razwald replied to J5_Hotlead's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
A couple of things not being a part of JG1 proper not sure if I'm Suppose to stay in the FIF section only. Second I also Record dogfights at times to evaluate myself but I use the in game feature. I don't do it during organized events heard it can screw up ping rate. Now no evaluation from me but (for the most part). I have A question or two. At around the 1:48 mark you reload the over wing gun and the screen freezes. Is that something on your end, or was it the recording from Shadow Play. On the replay because of the freeze you lost him for a bit. That's not good. I just updated my video card for the same reason. Couldn't ID stuff from far away and I would get freezes on my Track IR at times. It was old. I don't know what Shadow play is, I can guess what it is. If it caused the screen freeze I would use it sparingly. If it was just a play back glitch I would continue using it. -
