  1. You gave it a shot. You can always give it another shot when the technology meets your standards.
  2. Barton I'm going to be the voice of reason here. I have the Vive Pro it has slightly better resolution but at a higher cost. I was also disappoint at first. After the mod and some tweaking I'm happier now and cant go back. With that said, if you are someone who likes technology and want to experience VR now knowing it will be better down the line keep it. I don't have the oculus so I'm not sure what it will look like after its moded so you'll have to decide that on your own. Lipfert, I'm still tweaking my settings. The other night with Loopy I was spotting stuff on the deck from 5k. However stuff that was co-alt Loopy could see and I couldn't. They didn't show up for me until danger close for WW2. Ww1 it would have been fine.
  3. I saw this a few weeks ago also worth watching Kliegmann This just amuses me and if you notice the banner in the back it says "Folding Hostile"
  4. Since I bought my 1080Ti. I had actually thought about bumping up my settings in RoF. Maybe its better if I leave it alone.
  5. I ran 417.22 Saturday FiF with no issues. I recall that also but don't recall what it was.
  6. I was mistaken its a turbocharger. It isn't too bad to get used to once you wrap your head around it. Now the question is do I map controls for the gyroscopic gun sight.
  7. Pfalz looks great in VR. Blew my engine in the jug. Had a turbine over-speed light flashing. The supercharger is an axis wasn't sure what I was doing and it seized on me.
  8. I use the mod and it does seem to help.
  9. Long Video but worth the time. Goes into a good comparison of whats out there now with a heavy review of Pimax.
  10. Glad to see you back.
  11. 3dMiGoto moved his thread. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/39748-3dmigoto-mod-icon-masked-by-cockpit-zoom-for-vr-color-change-cloud-fix-sight-strengthened9-features/ Edited: He added a keybinding which helps looking at aircraft against clouds. Initial testing, it works well in VR. It seems he adjusted the shaders because I find it less saturated. I've been trying to adjust the files to reduce the saturation even more but haven't had any luck yet.
  12. Good question. With TIR, you can set it so if you look at the left side of the screen, you can see the 7, 6, and 5 o'clock position. You can hold your head there and scan the screen with your eyes. Also TIR allows you to lean which I'll address in a minute. For me with the Vive the edges are blurry. If I hold my head at the gun sight and look at extreme edges with my eyes. Lets say engine temp. Its blurry. I can tell its pointing in the right area but can't tell what it says. Same scenario, something like heading or altitude which is closer to the center of my view which in this case is the gun sight I can read with my eyes even though I'm looking at the gun sight. Which brings us to the 6 o'clock position. First thing I need to mention is with VR you are limited to movement with in the cockpit. There are boundaries set up. You can lean forward as much as you want but if you lean left or right too much your head hits the canopy. So if I can only get my head turned around good enough for a 7 O'Clock, the 6 O'Clock and tail will be blurry. I can get my head twisted a bit further so the tail looks clear. This goes back to the line abreast. I think some of us will feel a bit better myself included, practicing in VR so we know our strengths and weaknesses. I did find something interesting about VR. I feel more comfortable fighting in the vertical then I did with TIR. I felt it awkward to move my head up to look up but keep my eyes on the screen. Made it difficult to fight especially if the target moves into a weird spot and my TIR would lock up or jump. I would lose vis and we all know that can be trouble.
  13. You would be surprised how petty our complaints are. We went into it at the ground floor hoping for gold and we got silver. The future of VR should be great as long as people support it and the industry decides to move forward. Better resolution at a reasonable price. I'm not hear to convince people one way or the other. They both have there benefits and flaws. So I did some messing around with Box did an instant action with 2 flights of 190 vs La5 with icons on. Winter Clear no Clouds. Started 7000M apart which is about when the icon markers fade in. I could make out the targets but not 100% convinced I would have seen them yet. At 4000M yes I could see them for sure but if I was scanning fast not sure but probably. 3000M yes with out a doubt I can spot a target with the exception of above me. I have problems spotting contacts above whether in VR or not. That is because of how they rendered the sky not me. If it was a summer map the results could be different due to the fact I was looking at a white background. As far as turning around I can almost get my shoulders 90* while keeping my feet on the pedals and both hands on the controls. My best guess this may be due to the fact of all the golf I play where I have a lot of upper body torque.
  14. I like to think that everyone who has or has tried VR will admit that checking your six with Track IR isn't realistic.
  15. Good stuff to know, I just updated my motherboard drivers I have a MSI board and I used the live scan to update. The live scan said I don't have Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology installed but in my tool bar its there. So do I have I have the software installed and not the drivers?
  16. I think I'm the only Vive user so I really can't help on settings. It had never occured to me to turn icons on to see how far out I can spot a target. I will do that by Sunday night. Checking six I take my hand off the throttle and grab the chair between my legs. It gives me some extra stability to turn around. With that said I do that during a dog fight when I know someone is there. I have flown very little VR online and I can see myself not going to that extent to check my six in hopes that my wingman\flight leader is checking my six. VR or not, I have always been a fan of line abreast for this reason.
  17. As far as a squad member I've been out and about mostly golfing and trying to break 40. Its tough. So I haven't been around much. Today I was in a outing for Children's Hospital but I could not keep out of my mind the outing I was in last week for Ronald McDonald House. So last week we only had three guys for a four man scramble my friend knew one of the other teams. They had a fifth guy who wanted to play so he said we would take him. We are in our 40's had a radio going, yes I know a radio on a golf course. Not my thing even though I'm a music guy, but don't mind as long as we respect other golfers. So where am I going with this. We where playing some Van Halen and the gentleman who joined us was an older retired guy. He jokingly said do you guys have any Frank (Frank Sinatra). My friend brought up Fallout Radio on Google Play. We had the link on two speaker one in each cart. On one of the tee boxes there was a weird delay echo from the two speakers off the trees. For those who have played the game it reminded me of going into a house and you get a weird delay from your radio and the radio in the room. I joked "I'm just waiting for the super mutants to crash through the trees." The best was an hour into it the guy asked, "these are all from a video game." He loved it. So here are two gems
  18. I picked up a few sheets of black card stock paper. Which is thick enough for my MFD's. Then picked up a cheap label maker. Cut the sheets to size, radius the corners, label the sheets left/right and aircraft. Works good and looks good. I can label both sides if I desire without them hanging up on the MFD slot. Also thick enough where you don't jam and bend them when inserting.
  19. That is my biggest beef with the videos. The one video is an introductory video and the other 2 have points in all 3. They would have been better off doing a short introductory video then a few videos that focus more on the details. It almost feels like they had three videos and didn't know what to pick so they posted them all. This stuff is above me but I always find it interesting. "Through the Wormhole" with Morgan Freeman was a good show. Right now I'm watching "In Search of" on Friday nights History Channel. I'm not saying these guys will have the answers its just fun to sit and ponder this stuff.
  20. Here are 2 more If you made it this far.
  21. This Channel has some good videos most of it over my head but there are 4 or 5 that explain it the best they can for the everyday person. The rest of the videos delve into the math behind it. Those where too much for me. Here is a good place to start.
