They finally announced the date for the Dayton Ohio air show.

The Air Show is Sat, Jun 21 2025. Hawg and I can help organize a get together. Recommend coming a few days earlier so you can take in the AF Museum. I can prob arrange a tour of our facility in Wilmington Ohio including hanger, tower, B-767 and (just maybe) a few minutes in the 767 simulator.

I will work on finding a hotel for everyone near the museum and see what kind of discounts we can get. Hawg strongly recommends one of the higher tier tickets because it’s worth the money if they include food and great seating. We will look more into it and give our recommendation later.

I'm hoping to put out a proposed itinerary and signup sheet soon. In the meantime for those interested, here is a link to the ticket levels. I'm leaning towards the Skyview Lounge ($145) as best deal (includes good seating, lunch/beverages, etc). The top Blue Sky level looks even better with reserved umbrella covered tables but would require groups of six reservations whereas the Skyview level doesn't require all going in together for reserved seating and planning. What do you all think?

Finally have a signup sheet and preliminary plan.

Dayton Air Show (Jun 21, 2025)

Here is the link to the signup for the Dayton Air Show. While primarily a JG-1 event, we are opening this up to any of our other flight sim friends who want to join us. The signup sheet is dynamic so you can go back and change answers if needed.

Our plan is to go to the Saturday show on Jun 21. We highly recommend buying the Skyview Lounge tickets which are listed at $145 but with taxes and the (recommended) insurance against severe weather, illness, etc. the total was $155.30. We really think this is the best “bang for the buck” as it includes food, air conditioned room to get out of the heat, and viewing area away from the big crowds.

I also recommend planning to get here either Monday or Tuesday prior (Jun 16/17) and leaving either Sunday or Monday after the show. You can check prices for Dayton, Cincinnati, or Columbus as they are all relatively close. I will try to help out with transportation if anyone needs it as all three airports are approx. one hour from my house. There is a lot to see and do, and here is a preliminary itinerary:

Tue (Jun 17) – Arrive

Wed (Jun 18) – Air Force Museum Tour (free except for iMax)

Thu (Jun 19) – Wright Brothers bicycle shop and museum (free). If there is time afterwards we can go to Carillon Historical Park ($14) which is excellent and well worth going

Friday (Jun 20) – I’m hoping to get us a tour of maintenance hangars, control tower and hopefully the B767 simulator at the ABX facility here in Wilmington, OH.

Saturday (Jun 21) – Dayton Air Show

Sunday (Jun 22) – Depart for home or ?

The itinerary is open to changes, especially depending on when I can get us into the simulator here in Wilmington. Spaces in the sim are limited and will first go to JG1 members. The AF museum is really big so you might want to go a second day and we can change the schedule as needed.

I will be there Saturday. I live an hour south of Cincinnati so make a trip every year to Dayton & alternate between the museum & air show. This year as luck would have it, its the air shows turn.

And I agree, the Skyview lounge is really the best way to watch the show!

I’ve been asked about hotel recommendations. Hawg says he’s planning stay at the Holiday Inn Wilmington (near my home) but it’s about 40 min from the airshow/museum. Advantage is we are close together and can carpool but it’s up to you guys if you’d rather stay in Dayton near the museum. There’s been some talk about others coming but not sure. I had offered to pick ppl up at airport if needed and if anyone does take me up on that then the hotel near my house is more convenient and better for car pooling, etc.

There is also a Hampton right next to it that is nice also.

Would anyone be interested in an Airbnb? I've always had excellent experiences. It's usually an actual house and not some anonymous corporate Helltel. There are a bunch in Dayton ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms and the price is competitive with the hotels.

Thu (Jun 19) – Wright Brothers bicycle shop and museum (free). If there is time afterwards we can go to Carillon Historical Park ($14) which is excellent and well worth going

Would you guys be willing to swap these dates? I'll be in Cowlumbus visiting my college roommate and not sure that I'll be able to get to Dayton until later Wednesday. The AF Museum is much more important for me to visit.

Did you choose the Holiday Inn or the Hampton?

We can arrange it anyway we want. When the June schedules get finalized later this month I’m going to be trying to arrange a tour at our Wilmington Air Park and hopefully included some B-767 sim time so need to be flexible for whatever day that’s available.

I'll be driving in to Dayton from Columbus and should arrive before Noon. Hopefully we can do the AF Museum on Thurs instead of Wed. I've reserved a studio apt. in downtown Dayton. My flight leaves Columbus @5:30 AM Sunday so I'll be leaving Dayton VERY early Sun. morning.

I just talked with Dan Valk, a senior check airman/instructor here and he thinks he can swing a tour for us. I had helped him with ideas and reviewing for his new captain upgrade course being developed and he is also really interested in building a VR sim of his own very soon (in fact I may be asking ppl to be online next week sometime when I have him try my sim). He has to go to work that Friday evening (Jun 20) so he is talking about the Wed or Thursday evening (maybe around 6 pm?). He has to clear it with the flight standards manager but he's already looked at the sim schedule and doesn't think it will be a problem. We will also have opportunity to visit the hangar and go in a real B-767. I told him we would be happy for whatever day/time he can arrange.

Anyone else thinking about coming for the airshow, etc.?

Can I get into the Hell hole? 😁

Not sure what that is but I’m hoping we might have an A-330 to look at also. He told me that project is looking good for our company to get them and they are converting to cargo now.

"In aircraft maintenance, the "hell hole" refers to a small, usually cramped and difficult to access compartment, often located in the tail section or under the aircraft, where critical components are housed. This name is used because the space is generally hot, awkward, and unpleasant to work in."
