Somnus Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 So after much sweating and internal anguish trying to decide between an X52 Pro and X55, and a moment of vertigo inducing panic when I realized that I have the cash on hand to afford a TM Warthog (followed quickly by cold fear when I thought of what my wife would do if I were to follow up on that) I think I've decided that I'm going to a CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Throttle. I've already got the CH Pro Rudder pedals on the way, so why not go with a full CH setup? Earlier today I saw Amazon had the X55 for $200, with 8 left. Just a couple of hours later I go back and they're all sold out, with people selling them from $300 used to $500 new mypilotstore.com has it for $250, but the CH setup would only be $260 on Amazon. What do you guys think? I should be able to order in the next day or two. Quote
Britchot Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I love my Warthog for the quality and heavy feel but fully understand the marital discussions made to obtain one. I luckily got mine as an open box at a large electronics outlet (about 1.5 hour drive away) for something like $100 off. If it wasn't for that little pitch point, I would probably still be trying to keep my X52 alive. That said, I don't have any experience with the CH products but others here do. I'll let them chip in some experience. Quote
Thomas Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I have flown with CH fighterstick, CH Rudder pedals and Saitek throttle quadrant. Now I fly with TM Warthog and CH rudder pedals. My experience is TM Warthog is very good hardware to fly BOS/BOM (better than CH Fighterstick) but for ROF I still think I felt better with CH Fighterstick than now with Warthog. That is probably because warthog is more tough than CH Fighterstick. For now I stil need more to practise with Warthog to fly with the same comfort in ROF as before with CH Fighterstick. Quote
Barton Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I can't speak for the x55 or CH setup but my warthog has been going strong since 2011. Two of my stick buttons on the stick itself have sticking issues but those developed over months of using them for push to talk. The warthog is heavy and well built and IMO worth every penny. I am single though so I can't speak to how one could convince the misses that this is a necessary purchase. I'm sure an X55 or CH is going to be just fine. I just can't offer any advice or opinions between the two Quote
Klaiber Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I have CH pedals, a CH fighterstick and the CH pro throttle. I really like them a lot. And they work great together. And at least for me, they're pretty reliable. I've had them since the mid-2000s. And have only recently had to replace the pedals. I'm thinking of buying a new stick right now, only because the CH fighterstick has finally started to get a bit sloppy. When I do buy a new stick, it'll definitely be the fighterstick again. If you had any specific questions, just let me know. Quote
Britchot Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 I am single though so I can't speak to how one could convince the misses that this is a necessary purchase. You can't. The only thing you can do is come clean about how it will make you happy and will last a long time! Maybe showing her the love scene in Top Gun and telling her that you'll get her inverted, might help. Klaiber 1 Quote
Somnus Posted February 11, 2016 Author Report Posted February 11, 2016 HA! That -might- work. I ended up bribing her instead. I had set aside $500ish for a computer program which I've decided to wait on, so I gave her the extra $300 Hopefully I'll be ordering the CH stuff tonight. Maybe later, if the need (or desire, likely) presents itself strongly, I'll save up for the Warthog. Quote
Barton Posted February 11, 2016 Report Posted February 11, 2016 The CH seems like it would be the best option for you. Honestly, the warthog is way too much for what I use it for. I just like all the buttons on the stick and the dual throttles but 85% of the switches are completely unused, especially in RoF. I use some in CloD, but not many, and I hardly fly DCS enough to warrant it. If you fly the A-10 in DCS a lot it's cool to have, but if not I think other sticks will do the job just fine without requiring so much explaining wallet drainage. Quote
Lee Posted February 12, 2016 Report Posted February 12, 2016 I have the full CH kit. Very reliable. Only had to replace the pedals that I originally purchased new when they were first released. I use the CH Control Manager to program and download the game profiles. Set it up once, then it's all automatic. Quote
Somnus Posted February 12, 2016 Author Report Posted February 12, 2016 Well, I just ordered the full CH setup from Amazon today, so I'm excited! I had to cancel my order of the pedals from Walmart because I was told three days in a row (starting a day after they were scheduled to be delievered) that they hadn't shipped yet and would that day. Estimated delivery is the 18th - 19th from Amazon! Quote
