The Military Aviation Museum is having it's annual Biplanes and Triplanes air show this weekend. Thought you all might be interested in one of our Fokker D.VII replicas with its brand new Lozenge fabric. This aircraft has a Hall-Scott engine, which is about as close the original BMW as we can get. S!

After the fall of France, the British evaluated all available aircraft for their combat potential. I don't know about the Lewis gun, but the Tiger Moth was evaluated for carrying bombs. Tests showed bomb laden Moths had poor spin recovery, so anti-spin strakes were added to the fuselage sides and integrated into the horizontal tail. The video's moth for all its bombs and guns doesn't have the strakes. See the photo below for what the strakes look like.

Jack Herris just released the 9th volume to his "A Centennial Perspective on Great War Airplanes" Series. The newest is "Roland Aircraft of WW1." According to amazon: "This book describes and illustrates the development of L.F.G. Roland aircraft in WWI with text, 390 photos (9 in color), 50 color profiles, production quantities and serial numbers of aircraft and aircraft dimensions and performance specifications. In addition, 8 Roland aircraft types are illustrated in 1/48 scale drawings. The book has 206 letter-size (8.5â€x11â€) pages and is of interest to aviation historians, enthusiasts, and modelers alike." This one should be landing here at the beach on Monday. I have the entire series and recommend them highly, although some may find "Nachtflugzeug! German N-Types of WWI" a bit thin for the money, but then the Germans didn't make many N Types.

I'd guess engine problem on take-off. Quick 180 doesn't line you up with the runway, you are off to the side. Infield likely his only option, and he just made it.

On 9 February 1945 Linz was shot down and killed in action flying this airplane in defense of the German destroyer Z33 in an operation which was later labeled as Black Friday by the Allied aircrew.
