Update on this. I never did get updated from 1803 to 1809. 1903 came out, and so of course I skipped 1809 and tried to install 1903....that was way back in around May, 2019. That version wouldn't install either, showing an error code just like the other. At that point, I just said screw it....I'm not trying to install "feature updates" anymore. I just let the regular updates to version 1803 install when they came. 'Round about a month ago, I started seeing indications that support for 1803 was going to end in November. Well, let the chips fall where they may, I figured. What exactly is "support" anyway? A bunch of updates you don't even need. Ya, ya, security. Well I've never had a virus in my life, although others in my family have. I just don't open attachments in emails or anything I don't KNOW somebody is sending to me; and I stay clear of shady websites. The sites I go to are pretty limited and I know they're safe. I have zero anti-virus installed, except what's part of Windows. So, I was all ready to keep this 1803 version for as long as I still had this hardware; and all that time, after it initially failed to install, it never asked me to install version 1903 again. Well today I powered up, and checked the usual notification about updates needed; and today, at the top of the list, was "feature update version 1903". So I said what the hell, the worst that will happen is that it won't install again, and revert back to version 1803. Long story short, it installed without a hitch; it took a long time, basically like a new install from scratch. I even left for a while and checked later. I didn't have to change any setting in the BIOS. I didn't have to update the BIOS to a newer version. I didn't have to disconnect any hardware. I just let it run as-is; and it worked. What does that tell you? I don't know what their trip is with these feature updates that don't install, but it's obvious they can be made to work right if they try. Hell, it only took them a little over 6 months to get it to work on my machine, which has absolutely nothing unusual about it. I can hardly wait for the next one in a little less than 6 months.

Pretty drastic step.... maybe try letting it ride for a while. Is space that tight for you? Is it really a one-or-the-other thing? No updates ever for RoF is certainly a good thing from the reliability standpoint; nothing ever gets screwed up and people generally understand the cause of every performance issue. But there is little going on in RoF except FiF, and even that may move to FC soon. Would love to have you back flying with us on the WWI side, whatever the reason. Hope things are going better for you soon.

And every year, many of us say we wish there was no such thing as daylight savings time!

I haven't tried them yet.... maybe later today. However, when I extracted it (to a folder on my desktop), the file path structure was whacky. First extract all had more zip files inside of that, which needed further extraction; and I think a data folder inside another data folder. Anyway, I just got to the individual "plane" folders, selected them all, and then pasted them in the correct place, overwriting. I don't know why the self extraction ends up looking that way for me; it has happened before. Maybe Dropbox is zipping up something that's already been zipped? In my case, I just use Windows to extract, and use the direct download option at Dropbox. Maybe this has nothing to do with Etzel's problem; if not, apologies.

I see the truth in it. Thanks!

It's not that they were in there, I was just wondering what the heck they're for; I noticed that they were already part of the game files. They look purple and not much else, when you look at them in Photoshop.

@Vonrd ,what are those "[plane]_B" files in the "textures" folders? Have they always been there?

It would be, except that the US changes back to standard time on Nov 3, not Nov 10. So the Nov 2 session will start at 1800 UTC (6:00 pm UTC). The Nov 9 session, and all sessions after that, will be at 1700 UTC (7:00 pm UTC). All sessions are always flown at 1400 (2:00 pm) Eastern Time zone, whatever the current time reference is there.

Congrats, rocket-riders! -
Nice work on the cellophane tape marks. Looks authentic! Will be extremely useful on the WWII side.

I've had a couple of DTDs; one while flying on the WW server, one while flying SP with the QMB. It's weird, it's like the game minimizes itself, and if you click on it in the taskbar, it comes up and goes right back down again. When it happened online, the game locked up completely, and Kliegmann had me cntl-alt-delete, and stop the game process, and restart the game again after that. I never had that problem or any problem at all, before.

You are in our thoughts, California folks. May the winds of good fortune blow in your favor!

Hopefully, any mass problem they may have has only to do with a single batch of product, and not every one made....and hopefully yours is safe. I guess we'll know within the next few months

I think possibly the "software" he's talking about might be the VPC Configurator software; but I'm not sure. In that case, having 2 identical throttles might cause a slight problem, if attempting to save a profile to the correct one, assuming there was some difference in the way each one was configured. However I don't think his throttles are identical, and so probably have different profiles. And even if they were identical, you could solve that problem just by disconnecting all devices other than the one you wanted to alter and save to; then close the program, disconnect the first one and then connect the second one, and then restart the program, and do the same process over again. You don't need the software running at all, normally. As far as the games go, I don't think a limit of 5 is going to cause much problem, unless you have multiple multi-function panels, or something like that.

No reason at all why that shouldn't work.... it's just another controller. A great idea, actually. Can't figure out what there is possibly not to like about about MFG Crosswind pedals, though . IMHO the only mistake he (or they) made was to make them too perfect.... once you buy a pair, you'll never need another, ever.

Nope....but thanks anyway. I have as much as I'm willing to pay in there already; it automatically ups the bid on my behalf by a dollar until it reaches that amount. There was over 40 people watching that item. The chances that it will go for higher than I submitted are pretty high, to say the least. Nothing much you can do about people who seem willing to pay far more than it originally cost.
-
Interesting; I put a bid on it, but don't have a lot of hope to win....a lot of people bidding it looks like. Plus, eBay gets kind of stupid it seems....people will pay like double or more what a new one cost. I don't get that. Anyway as you can see, it is the first version, which I like; but it obviously has some differences from the one you have. The style of many of the buttons, maybe even the folding trigger and Z-axis lever, is the same as the CM2 version; and the color is all black. Might be the best of both worlds. Thanks for the lead. BTW, I have that extra hand rest from yours that you see in the picture. I found it in the original box recently....I never even knew it was there, LOL. Let me know if you want it....I really should give you the original box, too (it has excellent custom soft foam cushioning). No reason for me to have two of them. Thanks again!

Update, after many email responses and jumping through hoops that they set before me, like stupid firmware updating and checking the continuity of the cable at the base of the grip, which seems designed just for them to buy time, they finally stopped responding altogether. Since it had been over 2 weeks since the last response I got, I simply submitted a new ticket yesterday and referenced the original ticket number, saying that I was no longer receiving responses. Here is what was in the new ticket acknowledgement: "Notice: We are currently under high levels of demand and responses may be delayed past our usual 24-48 hour target. We are working around the clock - your ticket will be responded to ASAP!" Haha, they can't even make 2 weeks, let alone 24-48 hours. Something tells me their supplier of circuit boards sent them defective units, God knows how many, and they're now swamped with failure complaints. Of course, that's just a guess. I've had no trouble whatsoever with my original T50 Throttle (not the newer models). The same for my original WarBRD base. I would highly recommend either of those, but you can't get the original T50 throttle anymore, nor the original T50 grip; and as far as the base, I don't think it's changed. I'd be very wary of buying anything new. The stuff is expensive, and if it goes bad, at the very least, it will take an extremely long time to resolve the problem, if they ever do. If some day they actually do something, I'll let you know; however right now it appears that I'm going to eat the loss of a grip that cost well over $200.00 and only got about 2 months of use out of. If they actually admit in writing that they won't do anything, I sure as hell am going to post about this on the RoF and BoX forums.

I turned my gamma all of way down in-game (I think 8?), and I think it might have helped reduce the washed-out color effect. Thanks for the tip, von Webber. I might try a little lower later, using the file edit method. @Kliegmann , don't you think you could turn it back up to "normal" levels within the game, just by resetting the slider, for low-light scenarios, if you had previously set it to some lower level by editing the file? I'll have to try this and report back. One means of resetting it back to extra-low level would be to make an exact copy of your original startup.cfg file in the same location, and give it a different name, like "low_ gamma_startup.cfg". Then edit the gamma setting to your liking in that new file, and save it. Then when you want the extra-low gamma setting, go to the file location and re-name the original file something like "original_startup.cfg", and then re-name the copy you created to "startup.cfg". This would at least prevent needing to edit the operating file repeatedly, and only change names. Of course, the game will have to be stopped and restarted after each change, regardless. I suspect and hope that this will all become unnecessary in some future update. I remember back in the original IL2 people for a time needed to alter that file for higher quality video settings, such as water rendering, etc. Eventually they just made those settings available in the game.

Color is the thing that seems deficient to me in the whole Great Battles series. Everything has always seemed washed out or faded to me, compared to RoF; why the heck is that? Seems like it has the potential to look nice, but doesn't IMHO.
