Just wondering what "once per campaign" actually means. Once per year? Would it be OK to post an individual update (or updates) to files for those who care to have them?

Not really.... I don't have that folder in RoF either. Although the difference may very well be that it would create itself without a problem, if it needed to. Maybe.
-
I have Windows 10 with all the most recent updates. I had not tried to get on the FiF server recently. Before I did, I checked my game folders for the required structure. My swf folder did NOT have the required "externalmedia" folder in it. I left it as it was, without the folder, and tried to enter the FiF server, to see if the game would create one for me. I got the 10016 error. I exited the game, and went back into the game files and created the required "externalmedia" folder manually. Obviously, it was empty. Then I restarted the game and joined the FiF server without any problem. I then exited the server and re-checked my the game file structure. Inside the "externalmedia" folder was a single file called "church bells.mp3". The real question is how did Snaggle and possibly others end up with the folder already there? My guess is that server may cause the game to correctly create that folder, if it did not previously exist; but for some people the game folders may have some level of write protection enabled due to their Windows attributes or properties. I don't have any virus protection programs, other than what is included with Windows. It appears this is going to be a widespread problem. We REALLY need to make sure we get the word out to EVERYBODY that is going to participate in FiF, or there are going to be a lot of P.O'd people. I'm also afraid there are going to be at least some people who do not have the skills to correct the problem easily. EDIT: I checked the link that Etzel provided concerning J5's solution to that problem. Confusingly he referred to a different folder: ....\data\swf\il2\storage . In any case, he also advised to make sure that data path attributes were not "read only". Well, I'm pretty sure that if that was the ultimate problem, if you changed the attributes of the "swf" folder so it was not read-only, and then when asked, told it to apply that also to all subsidiary folders and files, that it would work. However: His ultimate solution was to just get rid of those sound files from the mission file. If the "church bells.mp3" file is not absolutely needed, that might be the best solution to prevent a lot of trouble later.

Oh, the plane set swap is at least as important I voted no, but that's because it's entirely contingent on what happens in the immediate future with regards to player numbers. Time will tell.

Wouldn't it be easier to let each group or individual participating supply and update their own threads in the new FiF Skins section? They could include a revision date to help users keep track of the currency of what they may already have. Also it would be easier for users to download and manage smaller chunks of files than one huge one. Consider what a PITA it already is just to keep up with JG1 alone.

I don't understand about the Prisoner Rescue; I had assumed it would be as per normal in RoF. We always landed at an aerodrome anyway, why can't we just do the same, avoiding the "soggy ground" issue? Perhaps aerodrome placement locations are too limited? Not suggesting we hurry-up-put-it-in-quick. Just wondering.

Butzzell will have to confirm whether the mission mechanics have changed since I last flew it, but: The Ace does not simply fly around "from the very beginning", which would imply that he's there all of the time; neither does he "randomly spawn", which implies that he'll just appear at any time during the mission, which you have no control over. Like in FiF/RoF, he has to be triggered before he appears. Any friendly plane must fly through a specific area on your own side, which is 1/9th of one sector in size (for example, location: "sector 1008.4"). You cannot simply fly through an entire sector; you must pass through the specific sub-sector to trigger the Ace. The subtitle is easy to miss, since if you are trying to trigger the ace, you are obviously looking closely at the ground and the map in order to ensure your correct location at all times. The "icon" is not really a map icon, per se. It is the normal moving red plane indicator on the map that would show up for any enemy plane in your territory on most multiplayer servers. However, I don't know if OTHER (real player) red planes show up or not. If so, that Ace would or could be only one of a number of other indicators that might be on the map. The difference is that he would loiter in that single sector all of the time. This is how it worked the last time I tried it, and I stand to be corrected if the mechanics of the mission has been changed since then. EDIT: I see that the mission mechanics HAVE changed with regard to the icon. It is now an actual icon, as opposed to the usual enemy plane indicator. Thanks for the clarification, Butzzell! S!

Sorry for the piecemeal submissions....it takes me like a week sometimes to complete one plane, and my goal is to get the Entente planes done before FiF/FC starts; so I figure at least they're available to download, when time permits you to add them. Will you be submitting / maintaining the post for JG1 FC skins on the new FiF skins section of our forum? If you'd rather not, I can certainly create one and keep a watch over it. S!

Nice work!

Would be interested in seeing a pic of that when you get them installed. Hopefully somebody will be of more help to you with the TIR, although fewer and fewer seem to be using it anymore.

Just as a very mild and well-intentioned suggestion, one thing that might make it look a lot less J18-like and more J11 like, would be to drop the white areas in favor of the stock camo, textures or colors that are normally there (i.e. wood, lozenge, gray, whatever). Sometimes less is more. I was unaware about the tail chevrons being connected to J18. A more sunburst version might look less like a copy; or the chevrons could be black over the stock pattern instead of over white, too. White is problematic in the game anyway, and even the smallest areas can look like they "glow" from quite far away. It sucks when you realize that some of your most loved color combinations and design themes have already been "taken" by somebody else. I know as well as anyone that what also often happens is that my most cherished design ideas just don't look right when you see them on the actual plane model. I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn that something I thought was an absolutely original idea I had was already used by someone else.

@Butzzell Just for interest's sake, was wondering if you used any of the JG1 J11 templates as a basis or starting point for those skins? Also, how come you didn't use any of these? The wing undersides are, well....dark. Stock undersides unacceptable?

What width are you limited to for the pedals? The foot pads can be moved inboard to some degree. If you start TIR before the game, and then start the game without pausing or unpausing TIR, does it still lock up? Perhaps there is some kind of key conflict between the two? Do you use the default key bindings for pause (F9), recenter (F12), etc. in the TIR program?

That didn't work for me, Heinrich; but I thank you anyway for a good try. The file format was a GIMP format, and I have Photoshop. PS can't (won't is more likely) open that file type, so I converted it to .psd online. However, I don't know if it started out like that, or just ended up looking that way after conversion, but the frame was white on a black background. Therefore it couldn't be used without covering up everything else up. Anyway Larner got back to me on my PM, and I am sure every one of you has already thought of this except me, but the wireframe layer can be gotten from the RoF skin template. So, I DL'd that, and exported that layer alone as a .png file, making it 4096 x 4096 at the same time. Then, I opened and saved it as a .psd file (I didn't see a way to do that directly when I exported it). Then, on the original IL2 SPAD template, I placed the embedded file onto the top layer....it automatically sat perfectly in place, no adjustments necessary....and voila! Original template with a wireframe layer included. Anyway, for any future skin maker who may need this, here is the SPAD XIII wireframe file, which can be imported into the standard published template at a new layer: SPAD XIII Template Wireframe file Very soon I hope to simply post an improved version of the current template, which will of course include that wireframe layer, and also include correct US markings, which are now lacking. S! BTW, from what I understand, .psd files can be opened/used by GIMP users....so the above file format should be usable by almost everybody.
-
Thanks....I'll take a look at them. I haven't used a converted RoF one yet, and I would hope the colors render the same as the official, "public" ones. For file hosting, try Google Drive.
-
I already PM'd Larner about this, but maybe somebody can get an answer for me quicker, here- Why can I not find a "wireframe" layer? Why are there no wing roundels included in the "US" markings layer? I tried poking around to see if somehow the wireframe might be hidden, but didn't find anything. The template is the current "public" template posted on the IL2 forum site.
