With VR the HUD really drops FPS. S!

Kameraden, Final stages of my setup with Elite Dangerous in VR with my Oculus Rift. A bit of a review of the various utilities maybe in order for tweaking. We have the SteamVR console which I have set to 3.2 for Steam SS Dr. Kai's tool has some VR preconfigs ready to go (have not used yet). We have Oculus Tray Tools (not using yet) Oculus SDK (not using yet) My settings for IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad are as per Fenris Wolf and look great: Your i7 7700K should run with at least 4.6GHz during IL-2 VR gameplay. Make sure to disable any AVX offset in your BIOS, very important. CPU Load-Line-Calibration must be set to 1 or 2 (fixated!) if you use water-cooling to avoid VRM temp spikes. Make sure your DDR4 RAM runs at its proper XMP, a speed of at least ~3000 MHz is recommended to not throttle the system. Before playing, enable "Maximum Performance" in Window's energy settings. Go into advanced settings, disable "Allow selective USB suspend". After this, go into your "Device Manager", select "USB-Controller", and check out properties of all Generic USB hubs. Some will have a tab on "energy setting". Make sure they all have no check at "allow to suspend device to save energy". This will treat the camera jittery. If tracking problems persist, consider buying a powered Inateck USB Controller/Card - google for models that fit to the Rift. Use latest Video drivers for 1080ti. Now to your IL-2 settings for your 1080ti: Preset High. The CPU cannot handle Ultra within 10km of furballs, the fps would hit rock bottom. HDR off. SSAO off. Sharpen off. AA to 0x. Mirror to simple or one step higher. Shadows High. Terrain Detail 4x. Terrain Sharpen on. Target FPS off. Render target 1. Gamma 1.0 to 0.9. Fullscreen off (VR mirror should show as windowed), resolution 1024x768. Find the Oculus Home executable, go to properties, its compatibility tab, enable "always start as administrator". This means you can start IL-2 through Steam without Oculus Home being loaded automatically as well. Now to your SteamVR settings: Steam SS to 3.2 (this replaces ingame AA and Sharpen!) Advanced SuperSample Filtering off (removes blur and allows better IDing) Tracking space: Sit/standing place (smallest). Oculus Tray Tool, in case you use it: Don't, and keep its SS off. Don't use its features like "cpu priority", they reduce fps in IL-2. Ingame, you load into the cockpit, and before or after starting the engine (not during the procedure) you hold CTRL+1(numpad) for a second, or press it multiple times, this disables ASW. Check your fps by pressing backspace during flight. This costs you 1 or 2 fps while the counter is shown. Always fly without HUD, it is a crazy performance eater (speaking 15-25fps). You can set "Objectives/Map" each to a button on your joystick, to turn it on and off during flight. Avoid any shaders like reshade or 3dmigoto vr shader, they cost a lot of fps and make the translational movements of your head jittery. S!

Kameraden, Not sure who is the best person to speak to with regards to the duplicated control mapping, had a heck of a time last night setting up the Spitfire water radiator controls without breaking the Russian aircraft. Anyways, still have a bug with Soviet where I have to put the Water Radiator to neutral before I touch the Oil Radiator or it moves both. I have setup a Profile in Target for Soviet and Luftwaffe, due to the fact my lizard brain has a preconceived notion that forward is open and back is close..... So I'm trying to maintain this for all aircraft and it's been working pretty good till I ran into the Water Radiator lever on the Spitfire. This is double important in VR because it's all by feel and you can't take off the headset every time. I would kill to be able to load profiles within the game like CLoD. Any observations from the heavy users? S!

Thanks for organizing this Hotlead. S!

I will be getting setup for this, just not sure how fast.... -
Kameraden, Here is what I have done to correct the issues I ran into: Nice powered TPLink USB 3.0 hub, build quality in this is exceptional, have a USB 3.0 2TB drive attached for streaming recordings and a NAS 440 for overall network storage. Purchased a small shelf, cut it in half at 24" and added it to the 36" one I have in place. Overlap to the bracket giving me a 60" shelf: And: Now for some cable cleanup... S!

Kameraden, My lizard brain needs some help, simple stuff I think related to my small space in my office. Thing is I intend to use this in a chair sitting down. So if one of the experts has a few minutes, I'll start with ED vr first. S!

Crap short one USB3, need to grab a hub.

LOL, Reminds me of an old Indy 500 game I used to play. S!

Kameraden, Here are my operating procedures to date, work in progress as I test out this aircraft. Have a bit of a soft spot for it, ugly is good and they call it a "Duck". Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/171983061 YouTube: S!

Be advised SPAD.neXt is not free, nor cheap. But the guy is constantly updating it so I didn't mind paying for it. S!
-
Luft, Saitek Switch Panel with SPAD.neXt works with any simulation. S!
-
Kameraden, Great, HDMI available and USB 3.0 available, think I can even sort out the cable track vertical in my room. S!
-
Kameraden, I need a USB cable plugged into the Rift correct? S!
-
Check this out: Can be removed in seconds, but yes this computer is dedicated for gaming. S!

Kameraden, Using this HID application I have been able to get my Saitek Panels working in all simulations, really nice to have the extra buttons on a panel. Works fine with the Thrustmaster software as well, which does not mind it running. Was even able to use a blank gauge frame to get it up off the desk, just need a spot light on it now. Although I know most of the switches without looking. The Warthog brackets from MonsterTech are great. S!

Kameraden, EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 TI FTW3 and my Oculus Rift are on order and I should have it Friday or early next week. Here's a picture of my last three GPU's laid out, Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 in SLI. EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 SSC and now the biggest card I have seen: Now for some testing.

Hess, Very much a work in progress, but I have plans. S!

*** Resolved *** In Cliffs of Dover, trying to get THR_FC - Axmap1 configured for Open - Close Water Radiator. Up key is L_CTL w / Center is Null / Down Key is L_SHIFT w with markers at 5 areas. I just want to slide the water rad in increments of 10% S!

Kameraden, Broke my Saitek X-65F today while attempting to tighten part of the throttle, expect it can be fixed. Since I have a brand new Warthog and Monstertech brackets I decided to feel the pain. Here is in progress: And closer up: Who is good with the programming software, TARGET? S!

Barton, Tough one to match the feel of that stick, everything else will seem pretty cheap. I would take a look at the Thrustmaster T-16000m FCS as I have recently setup a buddy of mine who wants to fly online. He's totally ham fist'd and he probably will break anything I put in front of him. Just needed to get him off my equipment Good luck.

Klaiber, Wonderful and I think I'll try it out with my phone in VR. S!

Raz, Search YouTube for "Arch Warhammer", he has a series of tutorials. S!

I might suggest Graviteam Tactics: Mius-Front, but be advised that it has a very steep learning curve. Available on Steam with DLC packs. S!
