  1. Ricky, that is one cool sig line
  2. Listened to your post-stream commentary, and I don't want you to get the wrong idea about the engagement in which I separated. I judged that you didn't need my help with the R.E.8 and so made the decision to separate and try to help the others. When I said that it was amazing how quickly one becomes alone, I meant that when I dove in, there was Butzzell, Vonrd, and GenMarkof in that area (maybe more?), and for one reason or another they all disappeared very quickly through no fault of their own by reason of being attacked. Although I was lucky enough to have caught Loopy with a good bounce, I was low when Hook arrived. I really had no options at that point since I can't outrun a SPAD at ground level, and Hook knows his plane and mine, and knew he could out-turn me, which is a thing you'd normally never try in a SPAD, but against a Pfalz D.XII it's the best option. I barely kept alive through scissoring, and when I saw an opportunity, I tried to make good an escape. In retrospect I should have stuck with the maneuvering, although I doubt it would have ended any differently. In the end, took a bullet or two from Hook and then I blew up my own engine through using too much altitude throttle for too long and of course dorfed the landing. S! to Hook, Razwald and Loopy for fights well fought! Hope you all can make it to FiF Saturday!
  3. From your pics, Schafer, it looks like it has an IL2-style slider response curve adjustment feature which is far more extensive than what is built into the CH Control Manager software. It's still less than can be done within RoF, but it might be useful in other sims where the response curve adjustment feature might not be as good as RoF's. In any case, it looks very promising. @ Pfeil, I'm still watching the VKB site for the availability of the Gunfighter MK.II desk top model with MCG Pro grip. The availability date has been pushed back from mid-May to the end of May now. If this continues, I might give up on them and get a Warthog. I like the Virpil sticks, but they don't make a desk top model and the mounting system is too extensive for what I want. Do you know if the Warthog has different springs available for the inside? That might be worth looking into. Edit: I answered my own question. Here's a thread on modifying the Warthog springs: Mod They say that they actually increased the tension of the 4 base springs, because they "work against" the main spring. That doesn't sound too likely to me. My guess is that the main spring is for tension, while the other 4 are for centering. The 4 probably help overcome the excess tension, but the effort to move the stick must be just as much, if not more. I would think modifying the main spring would be a better plan. It's probably impossible to find an exact replacement with less compression force, but I would think you could cut it down a very little bit in order to decrease the force.
  4. Hopefully Cuban will see this. Kind of wondering why "Jagdgeschwader 1" doesn't show up in the list at Stats>Squads in the server stats. I have a feeling ours isn't the only one. The only ones that show up are J2 and J5. At first it seemed like we hadn't taken the necessary steps to register as a squad, but I found our squad via other links; so we're signed up under Klaiber, we just don't show up in the list via the stats pull-down menu.
  5. Lots of folks to commend, congrats to all! Let the flow of medals begin! A little confusion with regard to Snaggle, did his pilot die, or just the gunner life?
  6. Me too! If I'm really trying to be serious, I'll make a paper with headings to follow and stick it to my monitor. You'll notice me pausing as I look at it and try to find my next point. I'm not very good at oration with good flow; Barton seems to be a natural at that. But the way I look at it, it's better than leaving out the points entirely, which I'd probably do, otherwise.
  7. Even the liquid coolers can be tricky depending on your case architecture and where you want to mount it....top, back, and in some cases now, front. Many cases don't have much room at the top; they can for sure mount fans by themselves, but when you add a radiator with coolers mounted on it, it can become an issue because of heat sinks for voltage regulators mounted at the top of the MB. The long coolers with 2 fans can be especially problematic. On some cases it's possible to mount the radiator on top of the case, with the fans inside; but if they're not designed that way, with a way for the hoses to go through, it's not possible without custom modifications. If you're not overclocking your CPU, the single fan units will provide all the cooling you'll ever need. They make 120 mm units of course, but some also have a 140 mm option now; and some of the radiators are thicker, providing more cooling than the standard thickness ones. You can even get fancy and use fans on both sides of the single radiator, one pushing and one pulling. In any case, you can usually avoid space issues more easily with the single type, since you can pick which area at the top of the case to use, or mount in on the back, or even on the front, usually at the top of the front. Even if your current CPU air cooler doesn't interfere with your new GPU, it's a nice upgrade, either for now or the future. S!
  8. A couple of suggestions. Try to explain the mechanics of what you're doing, as it relates to the game. Experts like you do things in a way that's superior to the way regular people do. Exactly how are you slewing your view around? Do you use TIR at all? If so, is it on? If it's on, is it paused? Are you using view keys to move your view? Are any of the views saved views? Your slewing speed looks quick and accurate. How's that done....game slider settings, mouse speed settings, or a combination of both? If that's the case, what are the settings? What brand and model of mouse do you use? As you can see, even a short video like yours can raise a LOT of questions. You're the expert....tell people how YOU do it. Many will reject what you say or not bother to change the ways that they do things because they're used to doing things the way that they do them now; but that's their problem. Your role is to show them how an expert does things. Don't sell yourself short!
  9. Hope the back order doesn't turn into a "not available". These companies seem to have little concern for how much of your time they waste. Used to be that a model number was a model number, with little difference in the cards other than minor differences in clock speed or amount of memory, which you would not even notice any difference in performance with normal use. Since they've come out with the 1080's they seem to have begun a new policy of a wide range of performance, and price. I hope you get it and it's everything and more that you expect. Congrats, S!
  10. Good work Ricky. Did you talk while filming, or film and then add the audio later? Are you planning on using the "aged" effect for your whole series?
  11. It was there when we needed it! Thanks!!
  12. My favorited parts are the angel/devil characters, and of course the skeleton map
  13. Luft? Lipfert, let us introduce you to Lothar "Larry" Ludwig (LL), a long time member of J4. He became ensnared in JG1's web at the same time as Snaggle and I. Hope that clarifies! S!
  14. Snaggle?
  15. Looks like something I'd like to see, but I can't find it playing anywhere. Journey's End
  16. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing our new jastafliegers achieve success! Congrats to you, sir!!
  17. Between the 2 of us, we accounted for 6 planes in that sortie, plus the one Sturtz got. You should look at the Wargrounds server stats when you have time; all of us, and the enemies too....it shows a lot about what went on. There was one guy I shot and he spun in, and didn't even get credit for that. We shot a lot of enemies off each other's six! Great job, awesome team work! S! Wanted to add that our newer members are doing great....an excellent addition to JG1! Nobody in our squad is to be trifled with now! Although in the stats it may look like a couple of other squads are better, we've flown far fewer sorties than them, and still right up there. Well done and good show in the server, gents! S!
  18. To add to it all, I checked my wife's laptop and the update of course showed up there....and immediately began to install. Strangely enough, her machine didn't have the same options for controlling updates like mine did; no idea why. Bottom line: there was nothing I could do to stop it, once it started. So I just let it run to see what happened with her machine. It errored out also. The error code was different than the one I had. There is no way to pause updates on her machine, like I could on mine. So it will just continue to say it needs updating, I guess. The only real control that you have on a machine like hers is to delay the restart to a specific day and time. Seriously, what possible problem should you have on a machine like an HP laptop that has limited or no capability to have varying components? The drivers must be completely standard I would think....and what other problem should you have? Approach with extreme caution. I did run across this, which might eventually be of some help...or not. Microsoft Update Support
  19. You can see in Vonrd's video that the mounting device is positioned in the middle of the pedals (your legs would go around it). The other mount is off to the side of his left leg. I still kind of wonder if that would interfere with your legs at all. That would get irritating. I've been checking what I've got right now, and the stick is mounted right above my right leg on top of the keyboard tray. It is mounted off center to the right, almost in line with my right hand. The throttle quadrant is mounted in front of my left hand. When I move my pedals, my legs are very close to the bottom of the keyboard tray; they almost touch it. So, I don't thing buying the Virpil without an extension on it would work, even if I flush-mounted it in the keyboard tray; too much of it would protrude below. Even sticks that offer a surface mount plate version, like the VKB or TM Warthog, still stick up quite a way due to the gimbal; and the footprint of the plate they sit on is pretty big. No matter what, it's going to be significantly different than what I have now. It's hard to envision the best solution.
  20. All, I recently received an update that caused me a lot of trouble. The Windows update in the title is a major update which is basically a new version of Windows 10. The update failed to install properly two separate times, giving the following error code: 0xc1900101. The machine then reverted back to it's previous revision level and began to work correctly. Researching the error code showed that it means there was some driver problem or incompatibility. Recommended action was to disconnect all USB devices except for keyboard and mouse. I tried doing this, but the update failed again in the same way. Looking at the device manager, even though the devices were disconnected, there were still devices shown there, especially CH Products devices; so I uninstalled them in the device manager and rebooted. However, the devices self installed themselves again, even though nothing was connected to the computer anymore. Then I realized that I would have to uninstall the CH Control Manager software in order to remove those from the registry; so I did this too. Upon reboot, the CH Products heading was gone, but there was now an "unknown device" which the computer set up. I have no idea how that was possible, since all hardware and software had theoretically been removed. In any case, I uninstalled the "unknown device" in the device manager; then I attempted the Windows update again. Again, it failed in exactly the same way. At this point, I could see it wasn't going to work no matter what I could do. I had screwed up my computer pretty thoroughly in trying to get it to work. So, I decided to do a recovery and connected my backup drive. The recovery failed because it said that a required device was missing. So, I reconnected all of the equipment that I had previously disconnected. Windows recognized all of the hardware, but of course it wasn't set up or working like before. At this point I decided it was better to do a system image restore, because for some reason, the most recent restore point was from January of this year. So I initiated a recovery restart to bring up the troubleshooting options, and initiated an image restore. The image restoration failed also, saying that something on my computer wasn't working properly, and needed repair. Then it had a couple of options in the screen, but they all just got me back to the same point again, except the one that entered the BIOS. I went into the BIOS, changed nothing, and exited it. My only goal was to get Windows to start normally again. Windows did start up again in it's previous form. Then I manually reinstalled all of the software that I had removed, and also reconfigured it to work. Of course, the game controller ID's had changed, so I tried the JoyID program that Dudley had suggested. Although it did seem to work inside the JoyID program, and I saved the configuration and rebooted, the ID's inside of RoF did not seem to change; instead they retained whatever ID they were trying to be in RoF. In fact, the first time that I started the game, none of the controllers would register at all; but the second time I started the game, I was able to at least get a controller to register when I went to enter it in a game function. So of course I updated my entire controls maps in order for the game to see the controllers as they now were identified. I questioned why the update was giving so much trouble and why I was getting it now. I researched online and found that they call this the "April update", so obviously I was one of the earlier recipients. Every time I start my computer, it tells me that I need this update; and it has been attempted and failed 4 different times. Checking into the update settings, I found an advanced setting which showed that I was set to receive feature update at this level: "Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted)" which means that I would receive updates earlier than most people. I reset that setting to "Semi-Annual Channel" (not "Targeted"), which was the only other choice. That makes it so that theoretically you get the update later, once the update is "ready for widespread use in organizations"; meaning, later. Apparently Microsoft kind of uses the earliest cases as guinea pigs and works out the bugs as the updates progress; so I guess I'm a guinea pig that died. I then set the updater to pause all updates. It will only let you do this for a period of 32 days. After that you can't pause updates again until after you apply all updates. After that I guess I'll have to just let it tell me I need updates, but not download and install them. I'm not going to try to run the update again until about August or so; and when I do, I'm not going to remove or uninstall anything to try to make it work. Every other update that I've gotten in the past has worked without any special procedures. I did have trouble with one on my wife's laptop (wireless), but I solved that by getting the update through a direct download and installing it that way. Bottom line is that I'm back in business; but if any of you see this update coming your way, be wary....very wary. S!
  21. On our last sortie, turns out it was me that forced Adam out of the fight: Stats (see log) Didn't want to claim any credit when he said good bounce, thought it could have been Vik that got shots on him too. Like Vik said, it was great teamwork, making the best out of a less than optimal situation. Pleasure flying with you guys, as always! S!
  22. There aren't a lot of them, but sir Klaiber usually sends out messages pertaining to the start of a new FiF campaign. If you didn't recently get one pertaining to FiF 2018 Spring campaign, you're not on the list, whether it's because of your email message preferences, or some other reason. In any case, show up for the test session tomorrow, Saturday, May 5, if able. S!
  23. So glad to see you're happy with your experiences with JG1 My hat's off to those trainers who bring new recruits to the level of being comfortable with us Although we would love nothing better than having you join us in FiF, we understand your time zone limitations. If you have times that you're most available, post here. If you relate that to UTC or North American time zones, it would help us a lot; we can put in an extra effort to meet with you. As for needing a wing man, who wouldn't appreciate that? Help us help you S!
