However, from what I remember, the PDL lights under the tanker only came on once we had contact. Before that we used the yellow stripe and a Tacan antenna that intersected a black painted line across the yellow stripe for angle. This video implies the lights are on even before contact. I’ve been flying the Viper and doing my best to learn AAR on the boom. I can verify that the lights are on prior to contact in the current version of the sim. Flyboy and Erhardt 2 Quote

The loadout capabilities are awesome and a bit intimidating. This is going to be a steep and long learning curve to fly. The F-5 was a great training prep airplane for it though. I'm probably going to try to train and practice in a methodical way similar to way pilots would in the real thing. Systems and cockpit familiarity, checklists, basic flying and maneuvers including instrument/emergency procedures and such before moving on to BFM/ACM and weapons systems. Air to ground will be a whole new and complex level for after everything else. Will also be interesting working with Jester. My thought right now is to try to set up voice commands to do some of this but will have to see how it all works when I get it. Erhardt 1 Quote
Klaiber Posted May 22, 2024 Report Posted May 22, 2024 @Erhardt - it's out: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/stable/2.9.5.55300/ (Actual footage of Erhardt downloading the update) Flyboy, Erhardt and Britchot 3 Quote
Erhardt Posted May 22, 2024 Author Report Posted May 22, 2024 I wish Klaiber - I look more like Frodo from Lord of the Rings... I have downloaded the update and it is installing right now - the first crash is so close now.... Edit: Seems I have to stop posting links to Trickers DCS videos (which is sad because he is a really nice guy) because he has disabled the ability to watch them on any other site than youtube. One of my favorite creators. Little fact, we were at the same base in ‘09-‘10, working out at the same gym. He even walked through my office and hangar at some point (he was a fireman conducting an inspection). A few years ago we talked about drones and connected the dots. Not sure why he would limit it unless it has something to do with age restriction because some of his jokes are definitely R-rated. Flyboy, Klaiber and Erhardt 3 Quote
Flyboy Posted June 5, 2024 Report Posted June 5, 2024 The F-4 is kind of a pig in a close fight. Here is the EM diagrams for the F-4, F-5 and Mig-21. Erhardt and I traded off going against each other F-4 vs F-5 and the F-4 is certainly less nimble and more difficult. F-4 max sustain turn speed M.08 = 10 degrees/sec and 5,000 ft radius F-5, M.08 = 14 degrees/sec and 3,700 ft radius Mig-21, M.08 = 13 degrees/sec and about 4,000 ft radius Klaiber and Britchot 2 Quote
Flyboy Posted June 7, 2024 Report Posted June 7, 2024 Turns out you do have to tune the Shrike depending on which SAM your are going after. Here is a video and a chart. Britchot 1 Quote
