Klaiber Posted September 10 Report Posted September 10 After an update to my Meta Quest 2, the link to the PC kept breaking. The headset would freeze, while the PC display still worked. Others were outlining the same issue here: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/discussions/link-v207-troubleshooting/the-latest-updates-have-rendered-meta-quest-pc-link-completely-unusable-/1381668 For anyone struggling with this, here is the fix: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/discussions/link-v207-troubleshooting/the-latest-updates-have-rendered-meta-quest-pc-link-completely-unusable-/1381668/replies/1381703 Quote If you go to C:\Program Files\Meta Horizon\Support\oculus-diagnostics and open the OculusDebugTool.exe, look for Video Codec and change it from default to H.265. Not all GPUs support H.265, though. You need a GPU that supports AV1 video encoding. Quote
Moxy Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 ~S~ Glad you got it working! I just went through a bout with my quest 3...of course it was all meta. Link, for myself, went through a series of updates,(about 3 a week), for the new operating system... Just FYI H.265 is the successor to 264, Faster but demands more power. AVI is native to AMD gpu's. and is really good. Virtual Desktop, is becoming outstanding! Their working on direct usb connect, in conjunction with their wifi. The direct usb connect has a problem currently, with disconnects on intel cpus, and certain cables. I ran experiments a few weeks ago, I get more power, but got the discos. VD, has so many features, conducive to DCS, and if I can usb direct link. Meta and oculus tool tray will be replaced! Have fun Klaiber 1 Quote
Klaiber Posted September 11 Author Report Posted September 11 I am wondering if I should upgrade to the Quest 3. Or perhaps to another VR headset. What headsets are most people using? Quote

What headsets are most people using? I like my Pimax Crystal lite and I think price has come down. I keep hearing all kinds of problems people have with the Quest so for that reason alone it might be worth it. Plus I think visuals are better. Patriot used to have the Q3 and switched to the crystal lite also. Klaiber 1 Quote
Vonrd Posted September 11 Report Posted September 11 I just got the Pimax Dream Air SE. The visual clarity is AMAZING! Close to real vision. The FOV is narrower than Pimax Crystal and I assume the Crystal Light but I'm willing to trade that for the resolution. It came with the old style facial interface but they are sending a revised interface which moves eyes closer to the lenses which increases FOV. There is also new software and drivers which I have yet to try. Klaiber 1 Quote
Klaiber Posted Tuesday at 04:30 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 04:30 PM Both of those seem like really good options. How much strain do they put on your PC? I got my current computer in January 2024. https://web.archive.org/web/20230321065702/https:/alexanderpcs.com/products/the-strategos-13th-gen-intel The upgrades I added “in-house” were changing the graphics card to the Zotac GeForce RTX 4080 Gaming Trinity OC and upgrading the processor to the Intel Core i9-13900K.
