The following JG1 pilot is being recognized for his actions in the creation of Jagdgeschwader 1 "Oesau."

War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords (Kriegsverdienst Kreuz 2. Klasse mit Schwertern):

 

• Oberst Alfred Klaiber, Stab/JG 1, for meritorious service while serving as the Geschwader commander in the conglomeration of I., II., and III. Gruppen of Jagdgeschwader 1 into a single, international virtual squadron.  Oberst Klaiber was the chief proponent in the development a common structure that appealed to three existing squadrons, bringing them all under one historical moniker.  His actions are not just a footnote in the proud history of the virtual Jagdgeschwader 1, but a new chapter, reflecting great credit upon him, Jagdgeschwader 1, and the virtual Luftwaffe.
