Klaiber Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Necroposting. Just saw this - don't know why I missed it the first time. Very interesting stuff! Quote
Britchot Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 five years later and I didn't see this, either! Quote
Barton Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 This debate has been going on in F1 for decades. Most intensely after the death of Senna back in the 90s. If he'd had one of these he'd still be around. Same for a couple drivers in Indy too. Quote
Stuka Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 S! And they are still discussing something. Believe it or not they are think in change that awesome solution for a kind of sandals.... they call it "Halo". But I have a hope, F1 was sold, New Big Boss, Bernie was fired and Ross Brawn is in charge! Quote
Britchot Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 I feel that would make the drivers cross eyed like the Optigrab: Klaiber 1 Quote
Barton Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 I think an actual canopy would look better. It's tradution to have open cockpit in F1 but I think it's a dumb traditiin. Imagine trying to design an F16 with an open cockpit just because J5_Hotlead 1 Quote
Snaggle Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Yes but the big hold back is time to exit the cockpit. Most drivers hate the Halo, and even hate the thought of a canopy even more. I personally think a wind deflector would be better something akin of want the spad or the dfw have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS8g_urBuLc Would he have been able to get out?? Barton Posted January 31, 2017 Report Posted January 31, 2017 With a full canopy definitely not. Ultimately if the drivers are willing to race without it let em Quote
Stuka Posted January 31, 2017 Author Report Posted January 31, 2017 S! I was watching that race, really it was impressive that Alonso got not any serially injured after that. I think it was more lock than other thing. Any small contact in the Alonso's head at that speed, and he was gone! Snaggle and J5_Hotlead 2 Quote
FourSpeed Posted February 1, 2017 Report Posted February 1, 2017 Were it not for the bulk and weight, maybe they should do some analysis on the Martin Baker 0-0 ejection seats as well as the canopy. Either way though, it's a dangerous business, and sometimes, for jet-jocks and F1 drivers alike it's just "Kobayashi Maru"... Regards, 4 <S!> Quote
