My apologies for the forum view permissions mess... I had it set to WW squadron view only while we got things together, and completely forgot to open it up for public viewing. Was kinda wondering why we had so little activity in there. At least I know the view permissions really work! 😉
For future reference, all things related to the two WW servers (WW1 and WW2) will be in this area of our forums: https://www.wingwalkers.org/forum/213-ww-multi-player-servers/

We posted this on the Il2 forum but wanted to post here as well.  JG1 has been a great partner over the years and we wanted to make sure you took the opportunity to try out these missions on our servers.
The Wing Walkers are celebrating our 30-year anniversary.
This flight sim squadron was formed in 1992, using the original Sierra/Dynamic "Red Baron" World War 1 based flight sim. The sim used Sierra's own "The Sierra Network" as the portal for flying on a TSN. Networks were all dial-up and beset with all manner of issues. Noisy phone lines often caused serious connectivity issues and the term "warping" came into existence. Technology improved and so did the sims we flew, with Red Baron giving over to Il Sturmovik Forgotten Battles,  Il Sturmovik 1946, Rise of Flight and now IL Sturmovik Great Battles.
We were one of many new units to form, and battled members of JG1, RAF74, Arabian Knights, Knights of the Northern Star, and many, many other virtual squadrons. New friendships were made in the process, strengthened through shared simulated combat and competition. Over time our passing interest in early aviation combat turned players into avid historians with expert knowledge of WW1 and WW2 history, accomplished graphic artists who created skins for the aircraft and self-taught programmers who built complex missions within a historical context.
We look back fondly at those 30 years, the bonds that formed and the friendships we made.
The original members discovered that "lone wolf" flying was ineffective at best. Team flying in flights or wingman pairs guaranteed better survivability and overall fun. WW membership stressed honor and fun as a squad over rank and glory as an individual flyer. As part of our 30-year anniversary we wanted to give something back to the flight sim community, so with that in mind we introduce the Wing Walker’s WW1 and WW2 dedicated public servers. The servers are typically open to the public unless we have a special squad event and the missions in rotation are specifically designed to support team flying.

Over 25 missions in rotation, these dogfight missions designed by WWCephas and WWBiker are a sandbox style with some unique features that support squads or individuals flying in a cooperative environment.

Here is a brief summary of some of the mission features.
    1.       The missions dynamically adjust according to the number of players from as low as 1 to as many as 24 (current server limit) in the number of AI planes generated, mission difficulty, and enemy capabilities/experience. A subtitle in the lower right-hand corner indicates the current AI strength level on a scale of 1-6.
    2.       Missions are either “sandbox” style, with multiple possible objectives to freely choose from, or a or set piece battle style with either dynamic scoring or a series of objectives to complete.  Based on the historical plane sets, you decide if you are flying bomber, fighter or jabo missions.
    3.       Missions are designed around live pilots flying in one nationality, fighting against AI, but an enemy base is provided for limited human OPFOR if desired on some maps.
    4.       SRS auto join enabled for visitors to coordinate on comm’s.
    5.       The Mission Map is used extensively to update the current active objectives and give status updates on whether they are damaged or not. Based on the mission you may see an indication of movement of troops or patrols. As targets are destroyed you may see % of destruction indicating the condition of the target. Icons come off the map for destroyed targets.
    6.       Dynamic AI patrols. AI CAP patrols fly no regular patterns, each CAP flight has dozens of possible waypoints which are randomly generated in time, altitude, and direction, so the missions fly differently every time you fly them.
    7.       Enemy airfields that are "ACTIVE" will actively launch fighters to protect their area of control. If an Active Airfield is attacked and loses too many planes it becomes "SUPPRESSED" and no longer can launch aircraft but can still call for reinforcements from nearby patrol aircraft. If enough damage is done to an airfield it will become "DESTROYED" and will no longer defend itself at all. The damage required to Suppress and Destroy enemy airfields is also dynamically adjusted by the current map difficulty level.
    8.       AI performance:  The AI behavior has been modified to be much more realistic manner as a wingman making them much more lethal when flying together. No longer will AI pilots fly in perfect formation (all the time) with the lead and then in combat fight independently. AI wingmen will actively protect their Lead and often fly in very loose formation to where you may not notice their wingman until you have been dragged and bagged.
    9.       Anti-Vulching routines built into mission logic, if you hang out over the primary base trying to vulch live players as they take off, you will be warned to retreat ASAP or be taken out by massive AAA volleys.

Our mission builders continue to add and modify missions, but if you want to read more about the current mission set, follow the links below and visit our website.

    https://www.wingwalkers.org/topic/9045-ww2-sandbox-missions/
We have really enjoyed building, fine tuning and flying these missions, so we are excited for others who like flying as a team to try them out.
Thanks so much to the flight sim community that has provided so much entertainment and enjoyment to our squad over the last 30 years

Thank you, from the Wing Walkers to all of you, for showing up and taking the time to help us give our squadron mate a proper send off.
WWNatops is the sixth WW member to join our "Heavenly Flight".
And this was the sixth time I've participated in, and the fifth time I've led, a memorial flight. To say that this is the hardest thing I've done for a hobby is an understatement. I've been a member of Firing Squads and Honor Guards for real life military services. But those were always for folks I didn't know ... It's maybe a bit odd to get emotional (at this stage of life) over the loss of acquaintances known mostly through online venues, but I knew (all) and met (all but the first) of the WW members who have passed. I feel very deeply that I have now lost a sister and five brothers. That's not a cumulative loss I would wish on anyone.
Thank you for joining us in tonight's Memorial event. The fact you put aside far more entertaining prospects to join us will not be forgotten. JG1 members are the best  friends, and adversaries, anyone could wish for. Thank you gentlemen.

First off, my apologies for what is apparently a very late invitation (unless WWGeezer has been by and posted an invite some time ago?)
The Wing Walkers are honoring another departed member, Jerry "WWNatops" Spruiel, this coming Tuesday evening, Sept. 14th, 8:30pm Central (9:30 Eastern, 6:30 Pacific). See the graphic below.
JG1 and any of your friends who would like to stop in and pay their respects are welcome. One difference this time is that we are offering all visitors an open airport after the WW Memorial Flight has ended, meaning you may, if you desire, spool up and make a pass (or three) in honor/memory of Jerry. We will have folks sticking around to record passes made to add to the final video presented to Jerry's widow, with full credits given.
Sim flown will be the latest stock version of IL-2 BoS/Great Battles, TeamSpeak will be used for voice comms (and recorded for inclusion in the video.)
Again, my apologies for the late invitation. I do hope JG1 will be able to stop by and help us give Jerry a proper salute. Thank you.

    All,
This is a new full paint pack for JG Nr. I Richthofen.
This WW1 paint pack is important, and replaces all previous packs for Richthofen.  It is highly recommended that all JG1 pilots download and install it.
Please join me in thanking @Vonrd and @Heinrich for their countless hours of work on this project.  This update would not be possible without their dedication.

    . . .
This is a full Flying Circus - JG1 paint pack.
All skins match JG1's current naming standards: v_!_JG1_[aircraft folder]_[pilot name].dds All skins follow JG1's posted Paint Policy: https://jg1.org/richthofen/dicta/paint-policy/ !!! This paint pack replaces all previous paint packs. !!!
!!! All previous skins should be deleted or overwritten. !!!

    All,
This is a new paint pack for JG Nr. I Richthofen, complete with an all new naming structure!
This new structure is so that we can better conform to the greater community guidelines.
Please take the time to download this update!
Before installing, you must first delete all old squadron skins labelled "JG1" within the following folders:
AlbatrosD5 BristolF2BF2 BristolF2BF3 FokkerD7 FokkerD7F FokkerDr1 HalberstadtCL2 HalberstadtCL2au PfalzD3a SE5a SopCamel SopDolphin Spad13 U2VS You can do this easily by entering the folder, and then going to the search bar in the upper right, and typing in: JG1
After you hit enter, all old JG1 skins will appear.
    Delete all JG1 files.
Once you have done this for all the WW1 folders listed above, install the new skins.
The new file format for JG1 skins is the following:
    v_!_JG1_[aircraft folder]_[pilot name].dds
If there are any questions, just let me know.

    Hi Sandman,
I'm so sorry to hear about Natop's passing!  My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all Wing Walkers.  I didn't know Jerry very well, but I always enjoyed flying with and against him when I had the chance.  If there is anything we can do to help with his memorial flight, please let us know.
Unfortunately, I'm away this week with family visiting from out of state.  But it would be wonderful if JG1 pilots could join in on Tuesday.
All, please coordinate with SandMan if you think you can make it.  Thanks!

Just wanted to take a minute of your time and brag about a group of friends who have been flying flight simulations since 1992: The Wing Walkers (virtual) Combat Squadron.

It's been my distinct pleasure to be a member of the WW's for 99% of that time... While I wasn't one of the few who started the squadron, I was part of the first rounds of recruits to join a couple months later. I am also one of the few remaining from the 1992 era who is still actively part of the squadron.

Earlier this month the WW's had their 20th Anniversary "Get Together" in San Diego, California. The center-piece of the WW Get Together was enjoying the MCAS Miramar Air Show. Once I get our site's gallery issues figured out, I'll have links to hundreds of photos from the airshow and other events and venues we visited while in San Diego. For now, you can browse manually through the various contributor's folders on our web space here: http://www.wingwalkers.org/vault/2012_SanDiego_Gathering

I wanted to highlight a couple things... First, a group photo of the attending Wing Walkers members:

Back row, l-r: Tom "WWGeezer" Emme; Peter "WWPierre" Legere; Dan "WWPlague" Strayer; Monte "WWSandMan" Lewis; Ron "WWChunk" DeRespini
Front row, l-r: Jay "WWDubya" Stein"; Ron "WWSpardog" Street; Erik "WWFlybert" Aamot; John "WW8Ball" Fesler

Missing the "Get Together" after making plans and reservations, but real-life health, employment and/or family issues made it impossible for them to attend, Tom "WWHappy" Madron; Ian "WWWringer" Smuck; Brian "WBrian" Sawyer; Pat "WWTaco" Mesich.

Tom "WWHappy" Madron was awarded the prestigious "Art Stacy Memorial Award", commemorating the life and friendship of Art "WWKat" Stacy, who was the first WW member to have passed away. This award is given to the active WW member who best represents the ideals and philosophies of the Wing Walkers squadron. It is the highest honor amongst the WW squadron members to be presented with the Art Stacy Memorial Award. For WWHappy, it was a well deserved and well-earned honor.

We have a video of the award ceremony, such as it is, recorded during our visit to the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant in San Diego. As a plug for the restaurant, if you have an interest in WW1 history (and of course in fine dining!) then this is a "must see" spot in San Diego.

A special part of the Get Together this year was meeting Chris "WWFalcon" Herr in person... Chris is an active duty U.S. Marine Corps RQ-7B operator. Chris first joined the WW's when he was 16, demonstrating a maturity level beyond his youthful age (the WW's generally don't consider applications from folks under 18). Chris was, and is, a very good combat simulation pilot... and we like to think that his success in the Marines as an RQ-7B operator was at least partially due to his time spent flying with us. Well, it sounds good any way...

As a final note our current Commanding Officer, WWTharn (a musician at heart), put together a heart warming original musical tribute for the WW's 20th Anniversary... For any online gaming group/clan/squadron/unit who do most of their group activities via TeamSpeak, Ventrillo or any other real-time voice communications method, this song will certainly feel 'real'.

Here's looking forward to the next 20 years of flight simulation! Cheers!
