  1. The Black Angels have a lot of the Velvet Underground in them too. Tame Impala is good. I have their first two albums (Innerspeaker and Lonerism). But I don't have their two EPs, or their third (most recent) album. Their song "Elephant" got stuck in my head for weeks upon weeks when it was released. Kevin Parker sounds so much like John Lennon at times that it's scary. Melody's Echo Chamber is great. I can definitely hear the Tame Impala influence. When googling her, I saw that she was in a serious accident recently: https://consequenceofsound.net/2017/06/melodys-echo-chamber-hospitalized-following-serious-accident-cancels-tour-dates/ I hope she's okay. Btw, have you heard of American Sharks at all? There album is only 20 minutes long, but it's a juggernaut. Either way, I passed on Reignwolf and The Spyrals to my wife. I think she'll like them too.
  2. Yeah, I can see that. Especially in that specific song. All in all, they're kind of on the folk rock side of psychedelia. I like the Spyrals a lot. They remind me a lot of the 13th Floor Elevators. He definitely is! He reminds me a lot of a more blues soaked version of Jack White. Speaking of dirty psych infused rock, do you listen to Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats at all? They're a great band. I've heard them described as: "the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbath and the Stooges," all the while singing about the "soul-chilling autumn" of the Summer of Love. I'm also a big fan of Elder:
  3. I hope so! Personally, it's great to hear new music. This is one of my favorite threads, to be honest. I really like the Black Angels. Their album Phosphene Dream is a great trip. Favorite songs off that would probably be Yellow Elevator #2 and Phosphene Dream. But my wife prefers their albums Directions to See a Ghost and Passover. I'll have to look up the Spyrals, The Night Beats and The Allah-las. If you really like neo-psychedelia, you should check out the Swedish band called Dead Man.
  4. Hi Peregrine3, Welcome! Thanks so much for the interest in JG1. I'll send you an email later tonight. Looking forward to talking more.
  5. JG1 videos works for me.
  6. Hi Guys, I've moved a lot of videos to this area from Public Discussions. Just a heads up. Mostly, it's the stuff I could find within the last year or so. Anything older than that is still in Public Discussions.
  7. Hi Hotlead, I hope you don't mind that I moved this to the videos section.
  8. Yeah, I loved the "trade secrets" quote too. I mean, the siren isn't bad. It's close: Dunkirk example: https://youtu.be/rJePvN_4T_E?t=33s But it's not quite right: Real example: https://youtu.be/F8nX_nx6Qws The real siren is more of a scream. Nolan's is kind of a growl turned roar.
  9. Hi Raz, I fixed it for you. In order to get it to pop up as a video, rather than a link, use the URL at the top of the browers (rather than the Share button). It should work then. I love the Dropkick Murphys. Great band. The "guns and drums and drums and guns" part of Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye has always reminded me a lot of lines from The Foggy Dew. Perhaps that's intentional. Here's a version from Sinead O'Connor and The Chieftains:
  10. That's great Hotlead!
  11. Great video!
  12. Hi All, This is a new area where people can post embedded or link videos of various video games. It was conceived of by Luftritter as a place where people could collect their videos, to make sure that everyone can find them. To quote him, "Right now videos are posted all over the place, and it's often hard to go back and find them after some time has passed." Very true. JG1 flies a lot of Rise of Flight, IL-2, DCS and even Elite Dangerous. So it would be great to see videos of those games. But it doesn't have to be limited to that! iRacing, first-person shooters, train sims, new releases, etc. All are welcome here. Just post what the video subject is in the subject heading of the post, so we can find it again. If it's necessary, we can later on consider creating sub-sections for specific games. Happy posting! PS: If anyone wants me to move a thread here, just let me know.
  13. I really liked it (as I posted above). 4 stars from me. But here are a list of Klaiber's nitpicks (specifically about the aircraft): (**spoilers**) (**spoilers**) (**spoilers**) (**spoilers**) Bf 109Es didn't have yellow cowlings during in the Spring 1940 (around the time of the Battle of Dunkirk). Yellow cowlings came during the Summer as recognition markings. Nolan addresses this, and says that he know it's not historical But that the yellow noses help the casual viewer identify the German aircraft. The Bf 109Es are very clearly Buchóns (HA1112). Nolan addresses this by saying that he didn't want to use CGI (unless he absolutely had to). Thus, he needed to use a real aircraft, and that limited him to the Buchon. Though, I don't understand why he couldn't have just edited the noses is post-production. The dogfights are good, but are very tame and very anemic in numbers (as Luft mentioned above). The Luftwaffe aircraft had no tactics. Bf 109s were showing up one at a time. The He 111s (actually a CASA 2.111) show up by themselves with almost no escort. And this I understand too. They're using real WW2 and post-WW2 aircraft to recreate these scenes. And very little, if any, CGI (per Nolan's request). Thus, the dogfights are going to be small and intimate because they just don't have enough air frames to put into the air. 1969's Battle of Britain could never be made today without heavy CGI, for example. And there isn't going to be extremely heavy maneuvering, for fear of damaging the warbirds. The excitement is all created using cuts and editing tricks. The Stuka's siren is wrong. And this I understand too. There are no Stuka's flying today. I think the ones in the movie were either CGI or models. And there is no modern recording of the Stuka's "Jericho trumpets."The only recordings that exist come from German newsreels. Or audio recordings during the war. So, they had to recreate the noise using sound engineering: http://www.indiewire.com/2017/07/dunkirk-how-christopher-nolan-very-loud-sounds-of-war-1201860117/"He built and recorded a siren in a 30-gallon steel drum, and then added some trade-secret effects to the recording that gave it the right intensity." Additionally, every movie uses the "Jericho trumpet" to signal that an aircraft is diving, even though diving aircraft don't make that noise! It's kind of like how pistols and rifles always are cocked in movies to show you the character means business, or how every sword pulled out of a sheath goes "shiiiing!". Thus, even if they used the right "stuka sound", I recognize that we (a modern audience) may not even find it very scary. We've been desensitized to it over 70 years of constantly hearing it. To most people, that's just what aircraft sound like (even though it isn't). Spitfires had 14 seconds of ammunition (Luft mentioned this above). In the movie, they seemed to have much longer than that. The shoot down at the end was impossible. This is my one major gripe. It took me out of the moment, just like the P-51s showing up just in the nick of time in Saving Private Ryan. The angles and lead necessary to shoot down a diving Stuka from it's 3 o'clock are just insane. If Tom Hardy was behind the aircraft, at it's low 6, then maybe. But considering that Hardy was dead stick, and I go back to impossible. The dead stick landing on the beach was completely wrong (and bugged me just as much as the Stuka shootdown). He should have kept his flaps up, and his gear up, and belly landed. Who lands with gear down on a sandy beach!? I know that there was no CGI, and they can't damage the aircraft. But Spit flaps are either up or down. And once he dropped his gear, the Spit would fall like a brick. He'd impact rather than land, and he'd rip his gear off (possibly leading to a fatal flip). I have other nitpicks, but that's just off the top of my head. I did really like it though! 4 stars from me. I just like analyzing stuff like this.
  14. Hi Guys, I forgot to report back. TheThingIs was able to patch the HCS VoicePacks, and now everything works great: http://forum.hcsvoicepacks.com/forum/technical-support/17531-panel-commands-and-vr?p=17734#post17734 So, if anyone has this problem, just follow his instructions.
  15. That is awesome!
  16. Thanks Trev, I'll give it a shot!
  17. I'm so glad that he got the chance to see the movie, and am truly moved by his account.
  18. Hi Lee, good question. I make sure to go into Playback and Recording options within Sound in Windows, and set Rift to both Default Device and Default Communication Device. I did see that someone on the HCS VoicePack forum is recommending disabling the auto-panels within Elite. My are currently on, as I like looking over and having them open. I'll give this a shot when I have the chance.
  19. This is basically the same issue that I'm having. http://forum.hcsvoicepacks.com/forum/technical-support/17531-panel-commands-and-vr
  20. Hey Guys, I figured I'd post this here, just in case anyone has any thoughts. When I play Elite, I use VoiceAttack. Specifically, I have Astra from HCS VoicePacks. Before I got Oculus, I had no problems. Astra responded properly within Elite, and when I told her to open or close a specific menu, she did so. For example: saying "Fire Groups" should immediately open the Fire Groups tab off of panel #4. And if I follow that by saying "Status", she should immediately move to the Status tab. "Close Panel" should close it. And "Navigation" should open the Navigation tab on panel #1, etc. Sometimes she would get confused, and I'd tell her to "Reset all systems" and she'd get back on track. But that was only after a lot of use. Once I got Oculus, I anticipated some issues. So I retrained Win10 to understand the new built-in Oculus microphone. And made sure to start Oculus and Steam first, before starting VoiceAttack and then Elite in VR. However, when I use Oculus, Astra doesn't seem to completely work. She understands the commands, and responds with "Opening [insert whatever I said]". But she doesn't actually do it. She gets confused almost immediately, and either does nothing, or opens up the wrong tab. It's almost like the commands don't work anymore. "Reset all systems" doesn't seem to fix it. I'm hoping to avoid uninstalling VoiceAttack and the VoicePacks and starting over again. But I think that's the way I'm headed. And since it worked fine before, I have no idea if that will fix it. So, any advice would be great! Thanks in advance!
  21. That sucks! I hope you're able to fix it.
  22. Just saw it tonight. I really liked it a lot. For me, it was easily a four star movie. It was basically everything I wanted it to be. There were only a few very nitpicky things that bugged me - and they're all accuracy based. Very minor things, which I'm sure no one really cares about, but that I won't post here (for fear of giving away spoilers). When people see it, we can talk on TS.
  23. More Oculus ramblings. I realized last night within Elite that there are VR graphical settings. Once I set mine to VR Ultra, and then changed the Pixels Per Display Pixel Override parameter from 0 to 2 (after each start up), Elite all of a sudden popped and looks like a million bucks. Same with DCS. Once you change it to VR graphical settings, it looks great. In both 1.5 and 2.0. I still have problems with DCS 2.0 and the MiG-21, though. The radar doesn't fully render. And if you stick your head out of the cockpit, the aircraft fuselage isn't fully there beneath the pilot. But as far as I can tell, all the other aircraft look okay. Strangely, I can't find anyone else on the Eagle Dynamics forums with the same problems regarding the MiG in Oculus in 2.0. So I may try a repair of DCS 2.0 to see what's going on. Side note: the Bf 109 and the Fw 190 look amazing. So do the Spit and the Mustang. It almost makes me like them.
  24. So, I tried VR with DCS 2.0 and there seemed to be a lot of bugs. But VR in DCS 1.5 is pretty smooth. Was very impressed actually. VR in Elite is of course beautiful. Only the Galaxy Map gives me pause, but the Xbox controller makes that easier. And I even like VR in BoX. Haven't flown it much, but it was pretty enjoyable.
