Whoa, that's scroll-back feature is nice! Not exactly what I expected since I didn't know you couldn't do what was done in the past by having a navigation path at the top and bottom of every thread. However, this allows you to return to the top even from the middle of long threads. The only drawback I can see is some people might not like having a part of the screen covered up. IMHO the benefit far outweighs the minor distraction. It will be interesting to see what everybody else has to say about it. Thanks again for your awesome work! Great job!

Still an outstanding fight with stellar marksmanship. I think most can only hope to be able to attain that level of "failure".

You seem to be shooting very well in FC using all 6 dof. I'd like to try using all 6 dof again, but at this point I'm very set in my ways and don't want to go back to square one when it comes to accuracy.

Haha, I love this. Our foes were gracious and their losses not as initial appearances might make them seem. As for ourselves, we did not shy from our duties to the fatherland and I believe that given our equipment we did mighty good in the situations we found ourselves in; I challenge any to do better. Both sides are to be congratulated on an extremely fun time, I think. S!

Could it be any more cheesy?

Don't know about the Caucasus but it is a myth here in the US that 1 in 5 miles of the US Interstate Highway system is straight in order to facilitate emergency landings. Apparently this is not true, according the Dept. of Transportation. Still, whether planned or not, there must be a ton of places that you could find to land, if needed. I watched the MIG-15 video (so far), which was really cool. If only I could have understood what they were saying.

Yeah this is of course not specific to the aircraft version, but it obviously shows all the inner workings which are the same I assume. Basically you just eliminate the heat sink and outer shield, put on a different sight, and you have the aircraft version, I guess. I was surprised to hear in the video that even on the ground versions some users claimed the whole cooling assembly wasn't needed and that the gun operated just fine without it. Anyway I would have liked to see the 97 round drum in action. One other thing I found the answer to is why they call it (and the Vickers) a .303 cal, yet the round is actually 7.7 - 7.9 mm (in other words bigger than your standard 7.62 mm round). Turns out that back then they used the antiquated method of measuring the bore (defined as the highest point, or "lands" of the rifling... the minimum diameter, in other words), instead of the bullet diameter. So the bullet is actually a bit larger diameter, and is squished or scored upon entering the rifling. Therefore it really is the same size as the German rounds. I also wanted to see what they said the rate of fire was....450-600 RPM. But one of the few things they didn't make clear was how that would be adjusted.... and they didn't actually measure that rate in their test firing. But their test was more subjective than objective. One other thing I still have a question about is why the gun couldn't be adapted for synchronizer use. Of course they said it was because it was an open bolt design as opposed to a closed bolt design. But I don't really understand how that prevents it. In any case, the drum would have disqualified it regardless. The difficulty of that aspect really was driven home in the video. It was obvious that it was hard to align and attach the drum, and when you see how it actually works, you understand why.... the way the inner part locks in place and the outer part rotates. So imagine trying to do that while standing up in the cockpit with the stick between your legs, in a 100 mph wind, in the middle of a dogfight. Umm....no. My theory is that they shot off their 97 rounds and then got the hell out out of there.

For those who may not have seen anything like this before, this is a great video, although very long. It has everything! LOTS of history, detailed explanations, excellent animation, field demonstration, slow motion. I looked this up because I wasn't quite sure exactly how the Lewis drum actually worked and fed rounds into the gun, and man did I learn a lot.

This brings up another request, especially if the forum templates are going to be changed in any way. Forums that I've been on that have the navigation options (for example, that JG1 banner) both at the top AND the bottom of threads are especially convenient. Again, eliminates excessive scrolling. Just something to consider, if it's at all a possibility. Thanks!

Update on the "remember me" function not working. First I should have clarified that I'm using Google Chrome for my browser. Gustavo was correct in that it had something to do with cookies. I found a specific answer here: Remember Me doesn't work Now it still needs to be tested since I can't delete the file because my browser is open right now. But I will edit this if I find that it does work.

It's OK, at least I know now how to get around it

Aha! Thanks for the tips! Shift+Enter! Click on the date! Cool! I just need to get into the swing of using this stuff! Us old guys liked the old GUIs where everything you needed or wanted to do was always right in front of your face. I notice newer development from younger people have a lot of stuff hidden because it's all meant to be used on touch screens or phones. Thanks again!

I hope this will not be taken as nitpicking, but now might be the time to submit some feedback concerning the new forum mobile version as compared to the old one. Navigation: instead of showing a path with which you can jump directly to a forum section, the return button only shows the previous section and keeps going back only one section at a time in a serial fashion. If you're deep in a sub-forum, it can take as many as 4 back navigations (and page loads) to get back to the home section. Initial view: when you go to any section, your view starts at the top (original post). The old mobile version used to start at the bottom (most recent post). When you have some very long posts and sometimes people then quoting those entire posts, it can seem like you have to scroll a mile to get to the part of the thread that you actually need to see. That can be a pain when looking at multiple threads. Log-in: with the old mobile version, if I told it to remember me, if I loaded the forum I'd automatically be logged in. Now it seems that I have to sign in every time, regardless. This last one relates to the full version of the forum. Line spacing: you hit the return button when composing a post, and it automatically double spaces. I can't figure out any way to make it single space if I use the return button, like when I'm making a list of something. It does single space when you just let it start a new line by typing to the end, but there are times when you need to do it manually. It's a lot easier to simply hit the return twice if it's a single space, than to have it double space every time and not have any way to delete one of the line spaces. Apologies if any or all of this stuff has some way to be configured by individual users and I'm just too ignorant to figure it out. Thanks!

Sir Butzzell is the primary perpetrator. Also I believe Sir Kliegmann has contributed some expertise. There may be others.

Well that worked out rather well! People communicating, commenting, compromising, and coming up with a solution without any animosity or grudges. How different than 20 years ago, back in the era of RB3D tournaments and their angry forums, with every squadron striving for an advantage and real hatred between groups and individuals. Being 20 older and wiser has it's advantages, it seems.

Just for the record, and for future considerations, I agree with that too. I also think that it should be OK for any 2-seater that has to ditch anywhere other than an enemy airfield to use his rear gun for as long as he's able to.
-
Personally, I agreed with your last paragraph, BVM. However, it was decided against. At the same time, I was reminded that the rules can always be changed in the future, if necessary. S!

OK, the new grip I ordered on March 18 is here!!! They say that the pre-order will be fulfilled within 90 days of the pre-order date. They beat that by almost a month. Not too bad! You know, you can see and hear about differences to some extent on their web pages; but to have both versions of grips in-hand is very exciting. Some differences that they DO tell you, and some things that they DON'T: The analog brake axis lever is longer, closer to the grip, and angled for your hand. Nice! More ergonomic. Russian lettering. Who cares? Every hat switch now has a push function (even the 8-way POV and the 2-way). Use them if you want, but you don't have to! The big one is that the single thumb button is now a 4-way hat + push. The reason I bought this grip! Also, a major thing is that the area by the thumb has been made more ergonomically conducive to actuating the hat switch that is now there. I was a bit worried about this since that area before would not have been the best for thumb movement, the way that it was. This and the other additional features is going to make me have to make a serious rethink and remap of my controls....which will have to wait for a while. The system I have right now is working extremely well. The shape of the pull-down trigger is more ergonomic and has a tab on the side to help facilitate pulling it down. I'm really happy with what I'm seeing. They managed to improve on something really, really good.

Thanks very much for the clarification, Gustavo!

I do have that, I did go there, but there is no means that I can see for actually deleting anything from the current list of notifications that I have received and read.
-
I used to be able to delete my notifications on the "old" forum after I read them....and I do read them. I get a truckload of them (thanks for all the likes, fellas!). I haven't figured out how to actually delete them after the latest update. Anybody know how to do this? To clarify, I don't mean marking them read. Thanks!

That's what I was wondering!
