For me, a couple of the sub-directories duplicated themselves (skins inside of skins, and the zip file duplicated itself inside the extraction, etc.). No big deal, it can be figured out....just the way it turned out, it can be easily figured out, I think, when you make sure to copy just what you need. It's buried in there, to be sure! Thanks!

When extracting that download, the path is a bit screwed up. You can still get to what you need, but be advised and be aware. S!

WW1 vehicles in a military convoy 100 years later
-Hawkeye- replied to Razwald's topic in Public Discussion
I read recently that they didn't allow steam powered vehicles near the front, because it was too easy for enemy artillery to spot and destroy them. Instead, they used narrow gauge railways that had gasoline powered engines. It looked like the steer gear reduction on the steam tractors was at least 20 turns lock-to-lock; now there's a job of work driving that for a long time! The maximum speed appeared to be somewhere around 10 mph. It looked like boiling away of the (unpressurized?) radiator water was a recurrent problem. The one guy removing the cap of the radiator that had boiled out did not seem like too good of an idea.... Ironic that much of the modern vehicle traffic along the way was BMW, Volkswagen and Audi made. Even the fire safety vehicle at the end was Mercedes. It would make one wonder who won the war Very interesting and entertaining, thanks for sharing! S! -
Be advised, last download I got Ricky Recon's Dr.I skin was still part of it. Not sure if that's intentional or not.
-
Glad it solved your problem! Now do that for all 50 planes, LOL

First fight of the year did not disappoint.
-Hawkeye- replied to Barton's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
What are the odds of that happening? You would think pretty darned slim; it's not like they were both on the tail of the same guy at the same time. -
Yeah....in the response curve file for whatever plane you're working with, you'll have "engine 1 throttle control", and another, separate curve for "engines throttle control". Make sure you invert the function on BOTH of those curves....make them both exactly the same. Otherwise, they conflict with and fight each other.

25+ pilots in Flying Circus Early Access!
-Hawkeye- replied to J5_Hotlead's topic in JG1 Videos & Screen Caps
Lotta action this Sunday afternoon! (Eastern). Might even have matched or beat that total at some point! The JG1 server is very popular now for FC, it seems. Weekend afternoons or evenings, just get on the server and people immediately start to show up at a fast pace; and even if a lot do not appear, there is still AI to combat, and they are far more capable than in RoF. Try not getting hit by an Ace level Camel, or beating one at all, at near ground level. They're very dangerous and most humans you meet can't equal the flying skill of the AI. I'm very much enjoying flying the Dr.I, and find that it CAN be competitive against the Camel at low levels, once you get proficient with it and don't carry too much fuel. Although the Camel has an obvious ability rise above a Dr.I while turning, that doesn't necessarily translate into an ability to win all of the time. Personally I love them both and wouldn't complain a bit if they stayed just as they are. I'm glad to see that SOME people are coming just for the VR experience.....people you don't ever see in RoF. I hope that continues to draw people in! -
Aren't the official skins 4K, though?
-
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
-
Also, wondering if the 4K skins are harder to draw, and would possibly cause people with less expensive GPU's to get degraded frame rates as compared to the 2K skins?

Wash yer plane, will ya? Yer stinkin' up the place

Concerning the U-2VS, I think it's a great stand-in for 2-seaters in FC at this time. It's amazing a WWII era plane with this level of performance even exists; it's too bad only one side has such a plane available. For those who haven't tried it, it is very WWI-like in it's performance; actually early WWI. I think it has some great qualities, such as very good maneuverability if not overloaded, and good weapons options. I did start some limited testing just to get an idea of how it lines up with other WWI 2-seaters. Some intangible qualities that it has are good durability of the engine and airframe, and nice, modern instrumentation, along with the very good low-speed maneuverability. One thing that is surprisingly bad on it is the very limited range of movement of the rear gun. Unfortunately it can't shoot anywhere near 90 degrees out to each side, and it only elevates enough to fire just a little higher than the top of the rudder. When piloting this plane, you are really going to have to be skillful in order to give your rear gunner a viable shot. The available front gun (free firing, lower right wing mounted with 400 rounds) could be very effective since it has an outstanding rate of fire. However being only a single gun it is not that useful against hardened ground targets. The 5-cylinder radial engine is only ("not less than") 125 HP at ground level. However it has none of the rotational effects of a rotary which enhances it's maneuverability. Basically that's F.E.2b level power and a little more, but in a plane that most likely weighs more. The following figures are for the U-2VS configured with no bombs, front and rear guns installed, and 12% (20+ minutes) fuel load. Fuel required for 20 minutes: ~12% Optimum mixture at ground level: 100% (Full rich) Optimum mixture at 1,000 m: 100% (Full rich) Best climb speed: 90-95 Kph indicated Climb time to 1,000 m: 7 minutes, 30 seconds Speed at 1,000 m: 132 Kph indicated Of course the game gives a lot of info too, but the range of performance is quite varied due to it's low power and many load variations. One needs to configure the plane with only what it needs to accomplish it's mission, and nothing more, in order to get the best out of it. S!

Have you ever / do you think you could assemble / load one from scratch? I would say it's not that hard, but that's my point of view. My preference for a long time has been Gigabyte MB, Intel processor, memory which is as fast as it's non-overclocked speed will allow, M.2 SSD X4 PCIe of at least 500 GB, latest generation of single NVidia GPU (xx70 or xx80 series). Good 850 watt power supply. Don't know if they've progressed any beyond what I listed in the SSD department....haven't heard anything better recently. MB model will depend on the best / most popular CPU socket that is currently being used for the best CPU you can afford. In terms of pre-built machines, Alienware used to be considered pretty high-end. I'm sure there are others that are at least as good now. Don't screw around with odd, new form factors, though. They will limit you a lot. Good old ATX is the most popular, and always has great cooling potential.

Don't you worry buddy, we see you The BEST "setup" that you could get would be one you build yourself out of premium components.... But if you're in a hurry and don't want to build, you're going to pay a higher price for a system with components that will certainly meet your needs, but most often charge more for fancy looks on the outside, and not-as-great components on the inside.
-
Probably would be best to clarify what you mean by "complete". A whole new box, or just hooking up VR to your laptop?

BTW, here is the origin of the cowl face:

I want to give supreme thanks to Vonrd for providing me with something I've never had before. This skin is not just a paint job for me, but has given me an identity that I can be proud of. Originally I was going to post screen shots of each version that we went to; however, this became so many that that became too much. Suffice it to say that Vonrd went through 8 major revisions in order to end up with what you see here; the latest and final one being completed only yesterday. "The 12 Days of Christmas" certainly has meaning for me with respect to Vonrd! Each day he returned a version that corrected, added or adjusted things from the last version. He has the patience of a saint! I can't possibly thank him enough. Although I sure he'll add it to the next major revision, you can download it now, here: Luftritter Dr.I skin And before Larner or Talbot beats me to it, NO, the "LR" does not stand for "Left" and "Right", LOL! I gotta admit I sure provided them with fodder for joking, HAHA! But I'll take my lumps and keep it, I love it!
-
It's probably my fault. Hold off for a while, day or so....? Big explanation, later!
-
"Happy New Year" to our great European friends, also! My New Year's resolution is to fly with J6 whenever possible, even if it means a most inefficient allocation of resources. Consequences be damned! We would sweep all before us! S!

No surprise to anybody; the thing was used in WWII by the "Night Witches" for night bombing and other roles. But it's a biplane, it's a 2-seater, it's in FC, and it's all we got
-
Couldn't have gone to a better guy. S! Baron and well done, Pfeil!!
-
I just bought it It has a rear gun and a mod that gives it a front one First two-seater in FC? I can see people enjoying flying around in the back of this thing!

Great video summing things up, Hotlead. You should be proud! -
That kind of thing is dangerous....and seems unnecessary, even for the time they were built in. I mean, how much stress could there actually be on that con-rod in a motor that only produces 110 HP, and basically runs a a steady RPM all of the time? Must have been a lubrication failure at either the big or small end. What would really be great would be to recreate one of those engines using modern metallurgy, and just a few minor modifications that would make the engine safer (like pressure lubrication instead of total loss oiling, and electronic, redundant ignition). It would change the nature of the motor in a small or superficial way, but transform it into something more able to work in today's world. The HP per weight could be maintained, and thus the historical performance, without the unreliability, which does nothing for anybody; and it would also be a safeguard to a priceless airframe. (Possibly at that same event) I saw a guy who demonstrated a small, working rotary engine which he made entirely from scratch, machining every part of it himself, and assembled it on a test/demonstration bed. It was actually quite big, maybe 1/3 or 1/4 scale. I thought, geez, why not make these full scale and sell them to guys who want to build exact full-scale replicas, instead of everybody trying to find a surviving antique rotary somewhere in the world. What a cool thing that would be! I'm pretty sure the group out in New Zealand probably recreates their own engines, in at least some, if not all cases.
