  1. Tested it out in singleplayer a bit tonight. It totally changes the look of the sim. FC is admittedly prettier in the graphics department than ROF. But... for the first time since coming from ROF, when flying around in FC, I felt the same level of immersion as in ROF. While the clouds/weather updates aren't necessarily WW1 focused, I finally felt like I was flying over the Western Front I've read about in the history books. Really a game changer. Can't wait to see this implemented in multiplayer! And the DFW looks super cool too. Their latest planes have really impressed me with the level of visual detail.
  2. Ach du meine Güte! It is a pleasure to meet you, Herr Baron! Thank you for forming this group! I joined in 2015 and it is the best online group I’ve ever been a part of.
  3. No worries mate! I know what that used to be like!
  4. Hey guys! I’m planning to be on Flugpark around 1pm Central time (19:00 UTC), if anyone wants to wing up! I’ll be on JG1’s Discord, in Flight #1.
  5. Especially interesting is that they made the wings on the CL.II stronger and slightly weakened the wings of the D.VII. I feel this is a positive move!
  6. Lol! I didn't view your response as being anything other than constructive; in fact, I sincerely appreciated it. I view this as a fascinating discussion that I certainly have much to learn from always.
  7. Thanks for the detailed feedback! It is true the French and German primary sources have been hard to come by for me. I think a primary barrier to that is that I don't know how to read German or French much or how to navigate the Bundesarchiv. However, in the future, when I have more time, I could try to figure it out and see if I could locate any reports and decipher them with the help of Google translate. This is why I've primarily relied on the reports I went through with No. 46 squadron and the USAS reports from 3PG. However, I do feel that the English language sources I have for Guynemer and the five German Aces are more reliable than not, especially because most of the results I took from them were from combat report excerpts, personal letters, or cases where the historians confirmed the victims that were brought down. Still, I do agree that if I were able to read French and German and had access to Escadrilles' and Jastas' combat reports, this would have been my first choice. Always something I could tackle at a later date! I also agree about the being forced to generalize. Going into writing this article, I decided that since I would be looking at the probabilities of combat damage as a whole in FC, I might as well look at the historical accounts as a whole. The weakness there is that you cannot fine-tune specific details for each aircraft — each of which deserves to have its own article written. However, since the developers have been seeming to question whether the wing shedding is wrong on the whole, I decided to deal with the issue as a whole. Really, this is just the start of going down the rabbit hole. Right now, I'm mentally wiped out from doing all the reading, categorizing, and writing, but in the future, I think everything you suggested are fantastic topics to dive deeper into!
  8. Well...my article on WW1 damage modeling is finally done! You might want to pour yourself a glass of your favorite beverage while you read — it's a long one! Hopefully this helps by establishing a historical precedent as FC's damage model faces review soon. I know it certainly was eye-opening for me as I researched these past few months! https://climbinghigher.wixsite.com/climbinghigher/post/pick-your-poison-an-exploration-of-how-ww1-aircraft-were-most-often-destroyed-in-combat Thank you to @Dudley, @DeFreest Larner, and @93rd Aero, R.Talbot for compiling and submitting data to help me with this report! I sincerely appreciate it.
  9. +1 to all the above. They are spendy, but they provide that extra level of precision that is crucial in WW1 crates. They feature a bit of a learning curve too, but so totally worth it!
  10. YES!!!!
  11. Thanks for the skin! It looks great! Would you mind moving the lozenge color back to the default on mine? I appreciate the authenticity, but I personally like the look of the darker one myself.
  12. I know... people who needlessly stir the pot like that really frustrate me.
  13. Given that the devs are looking for flight track footage of the wing shedding bug, I started a new thread on the Il-2 forum (see below): https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/74642-wing-shedding-flight-tracks-thread/ If you guys have any flight tracks showcasing this, please post them to that thread, with a short description of the action and timestamp. Thanks!

  15. Hello Vonrd! Thanks so much for helping us look our finest! For my Fokker D.VIII skin, could you make the top of the wing my usual yellow/black starburst, with the underside default camo? For the fuselage, could you mirror what you did for my Halberstadt skin? (Yellow cowling, black fuselage, my "Hotlead" script underneath the cockpit, my shield/motto between my script and the German cross, white band snugged up next to the tail, yellow tail?) I'd have one exception though: I'd like the tail section to be just pure yellow with no starburst on the vertical stabilizer. (The D.VIII's rudder is a weird shape to try and put a starburst on.) Also, with yellow wheels. For my ZuperPfalz, I'd like an exact clone of my Halberstadt, including the starburst on the vertical stabilizer and default camo on top/bottom wings. Finally would it be possible to revise my Fokker D.VII/D.VIIF skins slightly as well? I'd like the black to match the black on my Pfalz D.IIIa. Currently I think the black on the Fokker D.VII/D.VIIF reads a little blue. If you need any files from me, just let me know. Thanks again!
  16. Thanks for keeping the action going, gents! I wasn’t able to fly today, but I’ll post here when I next can!
  17. Thank you!! Let me think and I’ll get back to you.
  18. This Sunday I’ll be attending a friend’s graduation party, but I’m trying to get registered to fly Black September tomorrow for a few hours. If any other JG1 members want to join, just let me know by early afternoon today and I’ll try to see if I can let Drookasi know about more pilots incoming.
  19. Salute gents! I’ll be online in Flying Circus on Flugpark on Sunday, around 2:00pm CDT / 19:00 UTC. Anyone want to wing up and form flights? I’ll be on Teamspeak if anyone wants to join.
  20. That is so cool!! Thank you for sharing more about him!
  21. I really haven't extensively tested it, but I did get one initial sortie in on Flugpark this past Sunday with it. Here's my initial impressions (in no particular order): The D.XII doesn't feel like it has as great a climb rate as it did in ROF, but that may just be the new physics engine It's still a fairly stable gun platform I didn't try to coax it into a spin, but it felt like the same stall mechanics were present. Thus, the near-irrecoverable spin probably is still there. The graphics look GORGEOUS! It's still fast It has difficulties in prolonged dives; I tried diving on a N.28 on Sunday and midway through my dive, the nose started fighting me and the aircraft started to shake around dangerously. I haven't tested the DM on it, but time will soon tell. If I had to wager a guess, I'll bet the already weak wings from ROF won't be getting any better... All in all, it's a serviceable plane. I view it like the N.28 as we have it now; it can be a killer, but it is no easy ride.
